Chapter 6: (VIA) Chapter 6: Pre-battle Preparations
A wet, itchy feeling came from the web of her palm, making W pull her hand back as if electrocuted. She glared at the innocent-looking Viego beside her. "What the f*ck were you doing to my hand?!"
"…You were the one who put your hand there, it has nothing to do with me," Viego replied in a low voice. "Besides, if you kept pinching me, I was going to suffocate."
Viego looked regretfully at W's retracted hand. W had reacted too quickly, pulling back in an instant. He couldn't confirm whether the act of "sucking W" could speed up his absorption of the Ruination's power. A pity. Maybe I'll try again next time I have a chance.
W sneered, clearly not believing a word of Viego's explanation. Perhaps in her heart, she had already firmly nailed Viego to the position of "pervert."
But he really wasn't a pervert.
A commotion came from the other side of the camp. Viego moved next to W, and together they peeked out through the gap in the tent flap. This group of infiltrators looked well-equipped and well-trained; their strength was definitely not weak. A big battle was likely to break out soon.
In order to have more power to protect himself, Viego couldn't care less anymore. He directly pressed himself against the top of W's head, observing the situation with her, hoping only to take the opportunity to suck a few more mouthfuls of W's… internal fragments, to make his own power a little stronger.
The sound of clanging came, as if someone was fighting on the other side of the camp. Viego saw a tall man who looked like a leader directing several people to stand together, not knowing what they were doing.
"They're forming a Caster squad… preparing to launch a direct assault to take down the remaining soldiers in the camp," W explained to Viego in a low voice. "They haven't noticed us… it seems not everyone in the camp is dead, but if this continues, those who aren't dead soon will be."
"Uh… what's a Caster?" Viego's voice came from above her head, sounding a little muffled. W could feel her hair being blown by his breath.
"? Viego, why the f*ck are you burying your face in the top of my head?!"
"I'm making pre-battle preparations," Viego said seriously. "This is crucial, W. Time is short, hurry up and continue. What do we do?"
So you, you bastard, also know that time is short and the situation is urgent!!!
"If we survive this, I'm f*cking going to blow your [censored] to bits!" W gritted her teeth but still explained quickly, "Casters can unleash powerful attacks, but they need time to prepare and charge up. And during this time, they won't have time to deal with us. So right now, we have to take advantage of the opportunity while they're charging up, rush out, and slaughter them, to hit the enemy from both front and back."
"Got it."
"If you got it, then get the hell off my head!" W pulled out her grenade launcher from under her skirt, her voice cold. "Charge out, or I'll blow your head off right now!"
W couldn't help but grind her teeth. If she didn't need to keep Viego around to rush forward and absorb the enemy's attention and firepower for her, she would have already chopped this idiot's [censored] off with a single slice!
"Wait, one last sip!" Just as W couldn't resist raising the barrel of her gun, Viego finally lifted his head. He held the longsword, and his deathly pale face finally had a bit of the color of the living.
"Just charge forward, right?" Viego asked, and without waiting for W's reply, he yanked open the tent flap, raised his sword, and rushed out, muttering a meme only he could understand:
"Heaven is to the left, warriors are to the right—Charge!"
BOOM—
The dull sound of a launch echoed behind Viego. A dark brown grenade traced an arc through the air, then landed next to the line of crossbowmen who were turning back, blasting a squad of them into disarray.
W didn't directly bombard the clustered Caster squad, because the enemy was clearly well-trained and had come specifically for her team. W's fame for using explosives was not small; the enemy would not leave such an obvious opening for her. The only possibility was that someone was protecting the Casters, creating a favorable casting environment for them. Therefore, even if the first grenade was fired at the Caster team, the probability of it being ineffective was extremely high. It was better to target the second-highest priority, the crossbowmen. This would not only reduce her own pressure but also cover for the charging Viego.
"…I hope Viego can last for two more seconds."
W had no hope for Viego's combat ability. He looked like a brain-damaged, clueless, pale, skinny weakling. The most profound impression she had of him was that he was a bit of a pervert—liked to play with feet… and maybe hands too.
She used a wooden crate full of food at the tent's entrance as cover, not forgetting to pull out a few landmines from her military backpack and place them around her to prevent assassins or melee units from getting close.
Ammunition is limited, can't fire randomly, must find the right opportunity...
W raised her grenade launcher, aimed at another squad of crossbowmen dozens of meters away, and pulled the trigger again. Watching the Sarkaz crossbowmen being blown to bits, a smile spread across her lips.
"Bang—Bullseye! Two rounds of ammo left…"
W turned the muzzle of her grenade launcher, aiming in the direction Viego had charged, where the enemy Caster squad was located. And then she saw a scene that made her eyes widen in disbelief, so surprised that she was even distracted for a moment.
—That perverted weakling Viego was actually holding his own against two Sarkaz mercenary warriors armed with longswords??!
Originally, in W's prediction, the best-case scenario was that Viego didn't die, just got chased around pathetically by the enemy. The worst-case scenario was that Viego charged, and Viego died.
But now… Viego was actually fighting one against two, and not even losing ground?
That white-haired man was as thin as a piece of paper that could be blown over by a gust of wind, yet he was able to perfectly dodge the two gleaming longswords swinging at him, and even find time to counter-attack with the sword in his hand, adding a wound to the enemy.
Looking closely, his sword was even covered with some kind of thin black substance, just like those Infected Sarkaz warriors who use Originium Arts in battle. When he charged out, he seemed to have said something about warriors... could it be that she had underestimated him?
But in the next second, the Black Mist on Viego's sword dissipated, and the longsword was knocked out of his hand by the powerful swing of a Sarkaz. Viego dodged the two swinging longswords by a hair's breadth and then screamed like a banshee:
"W—Help me!!! Shoot me now!!!"
W: "…???"
Where the fck is that 'Charge!' spirit you had just now?? You're a grown man, how could you not last for half a minute? If you can't last this long, no woman will ever like you!*
But soon, she discovered that although Viego looked pathetic, tumbling and rolling as he was being chased, he was actually constantly shortening the distance between himself and the Caster squad.
"A little bit clever, aren't we…" W muttered to herself. The grenade launcher in her hand aimed at the distant Casters, and then,
—she pulled the trigger!
