Vlad Kills Cobra Kai

Chapter 6: Friend Group

Getting called to sit in front of the principle on your first day of school is probably not the best first impression a guy could make. Luckily for me, I've always been a bit of a genius, even before the enhancement, so my grades more than made up for any missteps in the eyes of the administration.

They didn't even seem to actually care that much; mostly asking me how I liked my first day of school, which was nice. I did get sent home for the rest of the day, but I didn't mind that at all.

As I was leaving I ran into Sam who was waiting for me outside the office.

"Skipping another class, Ms. LaRusso?" I asked teasingly.

She smiled, seeming relieved. "You're still joking, so I guess that means you didn't get in a lot of trouble?" She asked. When the teacher finally came, way after the incident, Kyler's mouth was bloody, and his friends wasted no time in pointing me out. I would see them about that later.

Naturally, I didn't point fingers. Snitches get stitches, so Sam wasn't implicated. I'm pretty sure the only reason his friends dimed me out was because they were still feeling salty about not stepping up and fighting, but it was their fault their brains couldn't process the events fast enough to react to their friend getting his face stepped on. There's something about being incredibly casual while committing an act of violence that usually puts people off of acting out. I've never tried to figure out why. Maybe it's about the way people play off of each other. If you're hyped and bouncing around, the people opposite you will be too. If you're calm, they will react that way too, subconsciously.

Whatever the reason, Kyler's friends snitched. I'm going to put them in a ditch. Not literally, it's just a good rhyme. For now, Sam was walking me to the exit.

"Yeah, they just told me to not get into any more fights and to take the rest of the day off. So, I'm going to the movies. That new Fantastic Beasts is out and I want to check it out." I told her as we reached the school's exit doors.

"Really!" She said a little too loudly, then cringed. "I mean, I really like Harry Potter. I haven't seen the first Fantastic Beasts movie, but I wouldn't mind seeing the second one first," she said as she looked at me with her big eyes in anticipation. It almost made me laugh. I'm pretty sure that look has gotten her more than a few favors from her dad.

Sadly, I'm not her daddy.

"Well you should," I said as I pressed my back against the door. "The first one was pretty average." Then I walked out and away. The girl just went on a date to the movies that went horribly and now she's trying to go on another? What type of short-term memory is that.

Either way, I wanted our first time hanging out to be under very different circumstances. Going to the movies with a girl you're not dating is boring as hell and they always take all the popcorn. Kyler's a dick and a creep, but he understood the purpose of a movie date. The fool just didn't know how not to go from zero to one-hundred. Bitch didn't even try to swing for a handy before going straight to trying to get a blowy. He deserved to get his face stepped on.

I hopped on my bike and went straight to a grocery store. I had already checked the times and I had a good twenty minutes before I had to be at the movies to catch the previews, which are always a must-see. I went and got myself a big bag of chips and some plain strawberry pop-tarts. Then, I emptied my backpack into the black box on the back of my bike and put my snacks inside before I made my way into the theater.

...............

[Vlad: That movie sucked.

Sam: I wouldn't know. I haven't seen it.]

I laughed at her reply to my text. Is she trying to be snarky?

[Vlad: Like I said, you really should. The movies may not be the best, but it does expand the Harry Potter world, which is good for the fanfic community.

Sam: You read Harry Potter fanfiction? lol

Vlad: Why the "lol"? Fanfiction is a staple of any good work of cinema. Without it, we never would've gotten Fifty Shades of Grey or The Notebook.

Sam: The Notebook was fanfiction??? And Fifty Shades of Grey was weird and creepy, so not a good argument to make.

Vlad: I'm pretty sure Nicholas Sparks writes fanfic in his free time, probably. Fifty Shades was a cinematic marvel on par with Twilight. I aspire to create such a masterpiece in my time. What's your goal, Sam the fist LaRusso?

Sam: The fist, because I punched Kyler in the face (fist emoji)?

Vlad: That's right. If you want to be "The Bat" you've got to earn that. And I can see you changed the subject, but I won't mention it.]

-Sam-

Sam couldn't stop smiling as she laid on her stomach on her bed texting Vlad. She wouldn't lie and say she wasn't a little peeved at him for not taking the hint earlier and inviting her to the movies with him, but she decided that next time she would have to be a little more upfront. Clearly, he liked playing dumb.

As she laid there cheesing and texting she couldn't help but think back to what was probably one of the coolest things she's ever seen in real life. It was the first time that she's seen a person actually slap another person outside of reality TV, which she definitely does not watch, and she found it absolutely awesome.

But that wasn't the best part.

Sam has spent her life living in a way that other people say is right. She does what she's supposed to do and never makes waves, but lately.. lately she's been feeling restless. That's the entire reason she went out with Kyler in the first place. She wanted something new. A change of pace.

Punching him; striking first. What would her dad say?

She shook the thought from her mind. This wasn't about her dad. This wasn't even about Kyler. This was about her.

She looked down at the hand that she used to throw the punch and she wondered if she should tell her new friend how good it actually felt. No.. first she should give him a hard time for encouraging her to punch someone in the face in the first place, and then... she can tell him how good it felt.

Or maybe she should keep that to herself.

-Vlad-

Anna asked no questions about the fight.

I knew that she knew. She was listed as my guardian with the school and I was sitting there when the principle called her and heard her barely offer more than one word answers in response. She's funny.

I'm pretty certain she's some type of combatant of some kind. Her steps are silent and she moves with grace.

I won't look into it however. I already have an idea about my parents, but until I hone my body to a level I find acceptable, I won't get involved. After all, the world of ninjas isn't for the faint of heart. Especially with the little my Dad told me about his past.

I looked down at my phone when it buzzed right after I sent a new message to Sam and was surprised for a beat at the speed of that girls' thumbs, but instead of it being from her, it was a message from Moon, checking up on me and asking if I was mad at her.

I wasn't in fact mad at her, or even at Yasmin. We're teenagers. Very attractive. And shit's pretty shallow. In my last life I didn't have time for shallow. I was trying to build something from nothing. Now though, I had all the time in the world for shallow, but that didn't mean I would let dishonor in my life. Bonds were everything in my last life and I still carry that with me. If you say you're friends, then be a fucking friend to that person. I would have to make sure both Yasmin and Moon understood that aspect of my personality. Shit like what I saw today, it wouldn't slide if they wanted to be actual friends with me.

In the original, Sam actually did drop their asses after they turned their backs on her, which she definitely should have. If I want to be friends with all three of them, I would need to do some team-building exercises in order to build trust.

No time like the present and luckily, I've seen all three of the Pitch Perfect movies, so I know how to build a very solid friend group amongst women.
