Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Fireworks Display
"KILL! SMASH THEM!!!" The crowd roared.
Their families and friends had died at the hands of the Sentinels. Until now, their limited abilities had prevented them from fighting back against these mechanical hunters.
But with the robots' abilities suppressed, they could finally avenge their loved ones. They were determined to completely destroy these emotionless machines.
Mutants and humans alike attacked the Sentinels with everything they had.
The robots, their abilities suppressed, moved forward slowly through the barrage of attacks. Their outer shells were repeatedly damaged, exposing their internal components.
The battlefield was a chaos of different powers and weapons. No matter how frantically the Sentinels flipped their scales, they remained in their original forms.
They could only use their physical strength to fight the mutants and humans.
However, Sentinels were still advanced robots. Even without their mutant-copying abilities, they weren't opponents that ordinary people could easily defeat.
Most battles saw several people teaming up against a single Sentinel, with many weaker mutants joining the fight where they could.
Thanks to this resistance, the robots' advance slowed. New Sentinels approaching from behind were immediately suppressed by void rays from Marcus's void orbs, while those at the front could only inch forward under constant attack.
Amid sounds of metal breaking and explosions, dozens of Sentinels were completely destroyed by the counterattack.
The battle data was automatically uploaded to the Sentinels' central network by the dying robots.
More Sentinels were deployed from the transport ships, and additional vessels were constantly approaching their location.
Watching more robots advancing, Marcus laughed.
"Come on, the more the better!"
"Mr. Skeleton, here are the energy reactors from the Sentinels..."
Several people approached Marcus carrying a large basket filled with energy reactors.
Noticing the skeletal Marcus looking their way, a thin man with broken glasses explained:
"I noticed you collecting these reactors, so I thought they might be useful to you. We're just technicians and can't contribute much in battle, so we're helping however we can."
"Ha! Well done—thank you!"
Marcus was delighted. He hadn't expected the prisoners he rescued would help collect the energy reactors for him.
This made things much easier; he wouldn't have to gather them one by one.
Void energy surged wildly from his arm, quickly spreading out and enveloping the entire basket of reactors.
This many reactors would yield at least two Aya Starss. And with all those transport ships approaching...
After this battle, he might possess as many as eighteen Aya Starss.
"Agreeing to Charles's suggestion was clearly the right choice. Hunting everywhere, I could never have obtained so many reactors at once."
While Marcus extracted the Aya Stars, more Sentinel transport ships arrived through the clouds. The entire sky was filled with vessels and robots.
However, the Sentinels didn't attack immediately. Their central network was frantically calculating and analyzing the void rays surrounding Marcus.
These rays suppressed the robots' mutant abilities, reducing them to ordinary machines, unable to use their copied powers.
After Marcus extracted all the energy from the reactors in the basket, gaining two more Aya Starss, the Sentinels' central network completed its calculations.
While it couldn't counter the void rays directly, it had calculated a strategy to minimize their disadvantage.
A group of Sentinels could serve as sacrificial shields, allowing those behind them to avoid the rays. The protected Sentinels would retain their mutant abilities and could continue their assault.
This strategy had obvious drawbacks—it would consume many robots—but the Sentinels had numbers on their side.
Countless robots had already gathered, with more transport ships approaching. Their supply of attackers was endless, while the defending mutants would eventually tire.
After these calculations, the central network decided to employ wave tactics to overwhelm the mutant rebels.
Suddenly, the Sentinels moved in formation, creating a massive circle as they approached the temple. Behind this first wave, numerous robots waited in reserve. Each flipped its scales, their bodies glowing hot red with dangerous energy.
The brief hope that had risen in many defenders' hearts began to fade. They couldn't possibly defeat such a massive army.
"We can't beat them..." someone muttered, eyes dull and spirit broken.
But others remained defiant. They stared at the approaching Sentinels with burning anger.
"What are you afraid of? We're already marked for execution. If we fight, we might survive. If we surrender, we definitely won't!"
Their words carried power and conviction. Since death seemed inevitable either way, why not choose how to face it?
Dying in resistance at least proved they had tried; simply waiting for death would leave them forgotten!
These words inspired those who had lost their will to fight. They didn't want to die in obscurity. Between dying in battle and being slaughtered, they chose battle.
Within moments, everyone's resolve hardened. Though they suspected they might not survive this attack, they chose to resist.
"Oh, wave tactics? How unoriginal," Marcus sneered, watching the sky. "Unfortunately, it's the wrong choice. My armor isn't afraid of any army."
As he finished speaking, his hand flashed with energy as he swung his arm forward. Something shot toward the Sentinels at incredible speed.
It was his war blade. If the Sentinels wanted to use wave tactics, he would show them how his armor performed against armies.
The war blade traced a blue arc through the air, flying straight into the defensive ring formed by the robots.
BOOM!!!
Void energy exploded instantly from the war blade. The powerful blast tore apart many Sentinels, with more blown away by the energy wave.
Their bodies, which had been glowing with terrifying heat, instantly cooled and returned to their original black color, their mutant abilities neutralized.
"Guard this place well! I invite you all to watch the fireworks!"
"Lost Skill: Deny!"
"Lost Skill: Accuse!"
Marcus released two Lost Skills simultaneously. Beams of light shot toward the Sentinels as void rifts appeared around several robots.
