Chapter 66: Warhammer: Lord of the Endless Monster Horde [66]
(Double Chapter)
"The Emperor will guide us, and in the future, we will find this Eldar Death God's emissary. As for how to persuade them, we'll deal with that when the time comes—things will work themselves out." Rhodes patted Titus on the shoulder as he spoke.
These muscle-bound giants were quite tall! Even with his nearly two-meter height, he could barely reach the other's shoulder.
"Lord Rhodes! Please forgive my rudeness! You just mentioned that besides finding the Eldar Death God's emissary, you have other ways to save the Primarch, correct?" Titus asked.
Titus remembered very clearly—Rhodes had indeed said this before. Extracting the Warp energy seemed to have more than one method.
"That's right, I have other methods, but I'm sorry—I can't tell you what they are just yet."
There were many ways to deal with Warp energy, and everything depended on how lucky he was with the system's shop draws.
Warp energy, when you got down to it, was just a form of special energy. And if it was energy, then it could be absorbed or utilized.
Rhodes planned to strengthen Bemstar to the limit, then spent 10,000 system coins to purchase a monster enhancement.
Once Bemstar's power was strengthened, Rhodes himself would gain the ability of the "Bem Bird" to absorb energy, allowing him to try extracting the Warp energy.
As for whether he could withstand the Warp energy's corruption? Rhodes wasn't worried at all—after all, he had the Emperor's psychic protection.
Even if the Emperor couldn't handle this Warp energy from Slaanesh, Rhodes could redirect it into Bemstar, letting it endure everything.
Later, he could just send the Bem Bird into the system space to recover. As for whether Bemstar would be corrupted by Chaos energy?
Rhodes was certain that wouldn't happen. After all, some of the top-tier monsters in the system were on par with the Chaos Gods—or even stronger.
The system that could materialize such powerful beings was undoubtedly superior to the so-called Four Chaos. This was Rhodes' greatest asset for surviving in the Warhammer universe.
All monsters summoned by the system were under Rhodes' absolute control.
And when it came to Warp energy, the Yapo people—beings from another dimension—were absolute experts in this field.
If he could summon a Yapo person, they would be able to purge the Warp energy from Guilliman's body.
Right now, Rhodes has an absurd amount of system coins.
Previously, he had obliterated over fifty Tyranid hive ships and nearly two hundred bio-ships in one go, bringing his system coin balance to over 1.5 million—he was now ridiculously rich!
If he could draw a monster or cosmic being with psychic energy control, extradimensional energy manipulation, or some other special ability, solving this problem would be a breeze.
He was also just one fragment away from completing his Interdimensional Ace Killer—a top-tier creation of the Yapo people, which also had ties to extradimensional forces.
It should be able to handle Warp energy corruption. That thing could even absorb and utilize the energy from Ultraman's beams.
Warp energy? Small problem.
The Warp energy inside Roboute Guilliman might not even be enough—he might need to borrow some from a Greater Daemon or a Daemon Prince.
Maybe he could even create something like a Daemon Prince Slayer.
"I understand, my lord! I have already learned more than enough today. But to be honest, I don't feel comfortable about this unknown Death God's emissary from the Aeldari. They are, after all, Xenos. And relying on Xenos's power to resurrect the Primarch... that will never pass Chapter Master Calgar's scrutiny." Titus said after a moment of thought.
Since this concerned the resurrection of a Primarch, they had to get Chapter Master Calgar's approval first.
They would have to travel to the Ultramarines' homeworld, Macragge, to meet the current Chapter Master of the Ultramarines.
If they were using remnants of Humanity's Golden Age technology or the Emperor's divine blessings, Calgar would naturally allow them near the Primarch.
But if this involved some sinister xenos, or worse—an emissary of a Xenos god—there was no way Calgar would allow them anywhere near Guilliman.
As a former Second Captain under Calgar, Titus knew the Chapter Master well. Calgar would never allow any Xenos to take even a single step near the Primarch.
Rhodes nodded in agreement. Titus was right—Chapter Master Calgar was indeed a major obstacle. He was the real problem.
Forget Rhodes, an Emperor's Chosen—Calgar didn't even give a face to Archmagos Belisarius Cawl, the Living Saint Celestine, or even his Chapter Librarians.
Finding the Deathwatch and getting Iphigenia's help would be easy, but getting past Calgar—that was the real challenge.
He had to see how the system's shop would play out next!
"Titus, can you persuade Chapter Master Calgar?" Rhodes asked.
"Lord Rhodes! Chapter Master Calgar is extremely stubborn. We cannot persuade him—no one can." Titus shook his head.
He was certain of this. Even if he were in Calgar's position, he would never agree to it either.
"Alright, I understand. Don't worry—everything is under control. Now let's head back to the planet's surface. Your Chaplain brother is still waiting for us to pick him up." Rhodes said.
When they had teleported to the mothership earlier, the Chaplain, who was already in a medical pod, had not been transported with them. Instead, he had been sent back to the planet's surface via a small shuttle.
So now Rhodes and his team had to go down and retrieve the Deathwatch Chaplain.
"Understood, Lord Rhodes. Chaplain Magro is also a son of Guilliman. Even though he is from a successor chapter, as a descendant of the great Gene-Father, I believe he will make the right choice and join us in reviving the Primarch." Titus said.
The Chaplain was not a rigid thinker, and Titus was confident he could persuade him. Besides, technically speaking, it was this very Chaplain who had invited Lord Rhodes in the first place.
"I trust you. I'll head back to pilot the ship. You stay here and convince your Deathwatch brothers. If any of them choose not to follow me, that's fine—I won't force them. Once we reach the surface, I'll let them leave the ship. But they must return the weapons I lent them." Rhodes said.
If they didn't want to follow him, that was fine—he would simply leave them on this planet. But their weapons had to be returned.
"I assure you, no one will refuse. I will personally convince them." Titus nodded at Rhodes and went off to gather his battle brothers.
Meanwhile, Rhodes had a brief chat with Elena, instructing her to continue tending to the wounded Deathwatch Space Marines. Then, he returned to the ship's command center.
Titus gathered all the awakened members of the Deathwatch together and began his speech.
"My battle brothers, I have a glorious mission for you—one entrusted to us by the Emperor Himself. We must resurrect a legendary Son of God.
Are you willing to follow the Emperor's chosen one and join me in completing this arduous task?"
As a former Captain of the Ultramarines, Titus had inherited a touch of Roboute Guilliman's eloquence in speech—though, of course, he was nowhere near the level of a Primarch.
"Lieutenant! Are you serious? The Emperor's chosen one will truly lead us to resurrect a Primarch? To accomplish such a great feat?"
"That's right! I am certain of it! The Imperium is now at a moment of life and death. My brothers, will you follow?" Titus asked.
"Lieutenant Titus! You have led us for decades, and we trust you completely. Moreover, this Emperor's chosen one has demonstrated extraordinary talent and wields divine power granted by the Emperor Himself.
Since this is a task given to us by the Emperor, as His Death Angels, we have no reason to refuse!"
"Indeed! This is equivalent to a direct order from the Emperor—far above any commands from Watch Fortress or the Inquisitors of the Imperium."
"We must obey this order! I will fight for the Emperor, and I will fight for the resurrection of the Primarch!"
A large group of Deathwatch Space Marines nodded to each other in agreement. If not for the sudden arrival of this Emperor's chosen one, they would likely have perished on this planet, slaughtered by the Tyranids.
Now, not only had they been restored, but they had become even stronger than before. Even their severed limbs had been fully healed—all thanks to the Emperor's chosen one. With a new task from the Emperor before them, as His Death Angels, they had no reason to refuse.
"My brothers, the success of the Imperium depends on your dedication. Since that is the case, I now solemnly inform you on behalf of the Emperor's chosen one:
Once you join his ranks, for the next year, we will operate in complete secrecy. We will not follow any orders from the Imperium. Can you do this?" Titus asked.
"Lieutenant Titus, as members of the Black Shields, we have already been forgotten by our parent Chapters. A mere year of disappearance is nothing to us."
"Exactly! Let us carry out this glorious and great mission together! We will follow the Emperor's chosen one, even if it costs us our lives!"
"I understand! Since no one objects, from this moment forward, we sever all ties with our previous forces and will now serve directly under Lord Rhodes, the Emperor's chosen one.
His every command must be obeyed unconditionally. Do you understand?" Titus declared.
All the Deathwatch members stood tall, pounding their armored chests in unison.
"For the Emperor!"
Titus nodded in satisfaction.
From this moment on, they were no longer just Deathwatch—they were a private Space Marine strike force dedicated solely to Rhodes.
