Warhammer: Starting as a Planetary Governor

Chapter 399: Savior: Wahoo, Massive Zero-Cost Loot Operation!

Eden stared blankly as the Aeldari fleet began retracting their lines.

"Hiss~ Are the xenos trying to retreat?"

It was the middle of a war, and any sudden withdrawal from an allied force would undoubtedly disrupt the battlefield.

It could even lead to a complete collapse of the front.

Fortunately, the Black Legion's garrison fleet in Savagar wasn't large, and this battle was already one-sided, so it hadn't caused much damage.

Even better, the Ork fleet showed no signs of retreat. In fact, they were fighting harder than ever.

Seeing the Aeldari lines thinning out, the Orks simply surged in, charging their ships forward and engaging the enemy head-on.

Such fearlessness!

"Aeldari are weak—look at those Orks go!"

Eden was starting to understand why the Old Ones had created the Orks in the first place. They were incredibly low-maintenance in warfare—no need to worry about morale or routing.

Just give them a target, and they'd charge with everything they had.

Plus, Orks reproduced quickly, weren't picky about gear, and would use whatever they could find—basically cost-free troops.

Bzzt~

A half-projection of the Aeldari Farseer lit up.

"Savior, I have received a vision—the Chaos coalition fleet is closing in on Savagar, and the Black Legion is also returning. We no longer have the time to destroy this fortress."

The Farseer's tone was urgent.

"You must make a decision now. If we don't retreat before the Chaos coalition arrives, we'll lose our only window to escape!"

There was no doubt—the situation was becoming increasingly dangerous.

"Farseer, are you suggesting retreat?"

Eden sighed.

"Unfortunately, our Redeemer Fleet won't be retreating just yet—my reinforcements are about to arrive."

The Aeldari, with their dwindling population and shattered production capabilities, were clearly running on the remnants of their ancient glory.

Their battleships were irreplaceable relics—once destroyed, nearly impossible to repair.

In this context, it was understandable that they didn't want to take risks.

If the Chaos coalition intercepted their allied fleet and delayed them long enough for the Black Legion to return, it would truly be a disaster.

The Ulthwé Aeldari didn't even care much for the resources on Savagar. After all their victories and destruction of several Chaos planets, they had already achieved their objective.

Moreover, the Aeldari favored fast-strike warfare with high-speed vessels—hitting and vanishing, never engaging in prolonged sieges or risking entrapment.

The Farseer looked apologetic.

"Forgive me, my people have lingered in this perilous region too long. If you insist on staying, we will withdraw our fleet…"

He disagreed with the Savior's risky decision and didn't believe reinforcements could withstand the combined assault of the Chaos coalition and Black Legion.

It was a pointless sacrifice in his eyes.

The Farseer knew humanity had a tendency for such needless sacrifice—pouring lives into hollow ideals and beliefs.

Even when the cost outweighed any victory.

"I understand your concern. Aeldari cannot afford excessive losses.

If you must go, then retreat."

Eden didn't try to stop them—instead, he straightforwardly accepted their request.

After all, they were only loosely allied, cooperating for mutual benefit. If the Aeldari truly wanted to leave, there was no stopping them.

Might as well be decisive.

The Farseer was momentarily stunned by Eden's quick acceptance.

Humans were normally stubborn and warmongering.

He had expected conflict, mockery, even humiliation when making this request.

Yet this human leader was so understanding, so different from the barbaric humans he'd known.

A sense of admiration flickered in the Farseer's heart. He bowed slightly.

"Savior, my people and I are deeply grateful for your understanding.

I hope we will have the opportunity to cooperate again."

He hesitated, then added earnestly:

"The situation is extremely dangerous. I sincerely advise you to act before you are completely surrounded by Chaos."

Eden smiled and nodded.

"Thank you for the warning. If the situation becomes truly untenable, I will lead the fleet to retreat."

Once the communication ended, their collaboration with the Ulthwé Aeldari concluded amicably.

Shortly after, the Blood-Eye Warlord suddenly contacted Eden.

The giant-eyed Ork glared through the projection and growled fiercely:

"Savior! What the zog is goin' on!?"

He had clearly noticed changes in the coalition fleet's formation and rushed to question it.

"The Ulthwé Aeldari have withdrawn."

Eden didn't hide anything and explained directly.

"Waaagh!!"

The Blood-Eye roared, brimming with contempt.

"Oi knew those white pointy-eared gits didn't have da guts!

Can't even fight a proper war! Even our grots got more fight in 'em!"

If not for their alliance, he'd have bashed those pointy-eared weaklings long ago.

He turned toward Eden, suspicion in his voice:

"You ain't gonna leg it too, are ya, humie? Afraid of da black tin cans like a runt?"

He too was aware of the approaching Chaos coalition, but to him, leaving without a fight just wasn't Orky.

Eden felt like the jab was aimed right at him.

If the plan failed, he would run, but by then, the Orks might not even agree to retreat.

Fortunately, there was the "Sleeping Dragon" Ork warboss, Ironpryda—he should be able to manage the Blood-Eye Orks.

This warband, stationed near the Eye of Terror, was a future asset Eden wanted to nurture.

He couldn't afford to lose them here.

"Of course not!"

Eden answered righteously, full of conviction:

"At least not yet. We still need to loot everything the Black Cans got before we leave!"

He stared intently at Blood-Eye.

"The Aeldari xenos ran off. You'll have to hold their line now. Can you manage that?"

For some reason, under the Savior's gaze, Blood-Eye felt proud.

"My boom-stompas'll smash 'em good!"

He was starting to find this human tolerable—maybe even respectable.

Orks revered strength and cunning, and Eden—bolstered by his secret identity as "Brother Edork"—fit the bill. (Edork=Rok, sounds better hahaha)

Though not many Orks yet worshiped Brother Edork, his influence was growing subtly with every command he gave.

Eventually, faith in Brother Edork would be tested within the Blood-Eye empire.

Then they'd have a triangle of belief:

Brother Gork = Brutal but cunning

Brother Mork = Cunning but brutal

Brother Edork= Brutal and cunning

Whether Orks would resist? Probably not.

They could barely tell Gork and Mork apart as it was—constantly bickering about which one was better, using it as an excuse to bash each other.

Now with Brother Edork sneaking in, it would just add to the confusion.

Only concern was—would the real Gork and Mork come knocking later?

Still, Eden had the protection of the Emperor's "Little Sun."

Even if those two cosmic brawlers did show up, they'd have to go through the Emperor first.

Now that would be a fight worth watching—three explosive muscle-heads going at it.

But Eden figured the Emperor would probably win.

With Blood-Eye pacified, the operation to mop up the Black Legion's remaining fleet went smoothly.

Eden then turned his attention back to the real threat—the approaching Chaos coalition.

This was the make-or-break moment for the entire raid.

Truth be told, Eden was more cautious than the Aeldari Farseer.

The moment he spotted the Omen-class Arks, he realized the current plan was shaky.

So while the coalition fleet made its flashy entrance into the Eye of Terror to draw attention…

He secretly assembled a second fleet.

And sent it in through a hidden route—just in case.

Currently, all major Chaos factions had deployed their fleets to the Dim Starfield battlefield to confront the Unyielding Crusade fleet.

Because of this, they didn't have many more fleets available to hastily assemble—nor would they be willing to throw everything they had into the fray. After all, Eden was attacking the Black Legion's stronghold at Savagar, not directly invading their own domains. It was unthinkable that they would risk everything for such a cause.

The only reason the Chaos coalition had assembled against Eden's alliance fleet was to resist the Imperium's growing momentum.

Moreover, they were confident they could devour Eden's forces with ease.

But with the arrival of the Redeemer Fleet's reinforcements, the situation changed dramatically.

According to intel from scout ships, the balance of power between Eden's alliance and the Chaos coalition had evened out.

They now had a fighting chance.

Unless the Black Legion's Omen-class Ark fleet joined the battle, there was no way for the Chaos coalition to win decisively.

And this gave Eden a window of opportunity…

...

The Eye of Terror – The Void.

An Omen-class Ark tore through the Warp and emerged into realspace, its grotesque form sprawled across the stars, exuding a dread-inducing aura of unstoppable power.

Behind it followed an entire fleet of Chaos warships flying the banner of the Black Legion.

Inside the Forge Core of the Ark…

Abaddon stood, gazing toward a distant, hazy shadow in the void.

That was Savagar—the Black Legion's forward base.

He turned and asked a Thousand Sons adjutant,

"Is that one still at our outpost?"

Now that the Chaos coalition and the Black Legion were closing their net, he worried that the Chaos Reaver might sense danger and try to flee early.

The Thousand Sons adjutant respectfully responded:

"According to the latest frontline intel, those Imperial looters are still attacking our base. No signs of retreat."

"The Chaos coalition has entered Savagar. They've lost their only escape route."

Abaddon's eyes turned cold, and a twisted grin stretched across his face.

"That Chaos Reaver… is done for."

"Full speed ahead!" he ordered.

"We must reach the battlefield before the war ends!"

The Warmaster of Chaos was desperate to claim Eden's head—the head of the one bold enough to challenge him—and take all the glory for himself.

He feared that if he arrived too late, other Chaos powers might steal the kill, robbing him of the honor of slaying a Primarch.

Voom!

The Ark reactivated its Astronomican Beacon Engine and dove back into the Warp.

Due to the turbulent space and unstable energies of the Eye of Terror, the fleet could only travel via short-range jumps to accelerate its arrival.

But regardless, the Chaos coalition had already pinned down Eden's alliance fleet.

Once this terrifying abomination of war arrived at Savagar's battlefield, it would surely decide the war.

...

Savagar.

This stardust-filled region had descended into chaos.

Everywhere burned with the scars of battle, and the roar of war echoed across the star system.

Grotesque Chaos ships, covered in tendrils and eyes, poured into the battlefield, making the situation even more chaotic.

The Chaos fleet surrounded the Black Legion's territory from all directions and launched a massive assault.

The ferocity of the attack was enough to make any Imperial admiral tremble.

Aboard the Dreamweaver, under the observation dome…

"Hiss~ This isn't good!"

Eden inhaled deeply, anxiety written across his face.

The situation had veered far off from what he expected.

This wasn't how it was supposed to go!

In his field of view, the Chaos coalition fleets were frantically launching assaults on the Black Legion's base, looting everything in sight.

They were even attacking each other for better positions.

The Black Legion's garrison fleet had already been wiped out.

And Eden's own allied forces were mixed among the Chaos coalition—joining in on the plundering.

This had become a full-scale zero-cost looting spree against the Black Legion!

Just before the Chaos coalition reached Savagar's edge, Eden had revealed his reinforcements and displayed the full might of his forces.

Then he opened negotiations with the Chaos commanders.

He made things clear:

At this point, both sides had comparable power. Fighting would only lead to massive losses, and there wasn't much chance of wiping him out.

More importantly, going all-in against him was essentially risking their own Chaos fleets to defend the Black Legion.

And what would they gain?

Nothing.

Eden understood that these Chaos factions were essentially warlord states within the Eye of Terror. They bore grudges, worshiped different gods, and were always at each other's throats—including with the Black Legion.

The Black Legion, sitting atop a gold mine of resources and always flexing its strength, had long been resented by the others.

Their united front earlier had only formed because they thought Eden would be an easy kill.

Now that things had changed…

Attacking Eden would just weaken everyone—and leave the Black Legion stronger.

So Eden gave them a new option:

Before Abaddon returned, why not all team up and loot the place? Reap huge rewards and vanish before the Warmaster showed up.

He knew eating alone was bad etiquette. Sharing the cake was the right path.

Resources were scarce in the Eye of Terror. Chaos warlords were basically dirt-poor and relied on mutation for strength.

They'd even kill over scraps of wargear.

It was common for Chaos warriors to strip power armor off each other in battle. Whoever won kept the loot. The loser fought bare-chested.

Now, the vast wealth the Black Legion had hoarded for millennia was right in front of them.

Eden didn't believe these Chaos beggars could resist such temptation.

Sure enough, after his reminder, the Chaos commanders' eyes lit up.

They quickly reached a consensus:

If we can't beat the Reaver, then let's rob the Black Legion.

And as for revenge from the Black Legion?

Not a concern.

Each Chaos faction had its own domain and Daemon Primarch backing. If they didn't have strength, they'd already have been swallowed by Abaddon's forces.

During the planning phase, any "traitors" in the Chaos coalition who objected were quietly purged.

A brief scuffle later, the Chaos coalition howled into Savagar and began seizing the spoils they had long dreamed of.

And they unleashed terrifying levels of aggression.

In just one hour, several space fortresses had fallen.

The Chaos warriors inside were slaughtered. Not only were their power armors stripped, even their gene-seed was dug out.

These Chaos marauders looted harder than Eden's alliance did—they left nothing behind.

They even tried to tow away entire fortresses.

But soon, things began to spiral.

Factions started fighting over better targets and loot.

The tension grew…

And a brawl was about to break out.

That would ruin everything Eden had planned.

Such internal chaos would slow down the looting and, worse, could result in someone turning their guns on his fleet.

That would be a disaster.

After all, organized, disciplined looting was the most effective.

He had to stop the madness.

Eden quickly issued an emergency broadcast to all fleets.

Moments later, the terrifying form of the Chaos Reaver appeared across countless vessels:

"Chaos brothers, this wild looting won't work.

Abaddon will be back soon—we don't have time to waste!

Besides, this chaos means you won't get the best loot…"

"By the gods of Chaos, trust in me—the Chaos Reaver. I offer order and fairness!"

He raised a hand and revealed a star map of Savagar, detailing every fortress, dockyard, and forge facility.

"I'm willing to give up even more of my claim.

As long as everyone follows this plan, I guarantee enough loot for all—and a safe escape route!"

The star map showed every resource and asset the Black Legion had.

It was the product of Eden's recon teams over the past weeks.

Using the Machine Goddess' immense processing power, Eden had mapped every facility and carefully divided the sectors among the Chaos factions.

Each had a designated looting zone—fair and equitable.

And all routes allowed for immediate retreat if needed.

Anyone who interfered would be declared the enemy of everyone.

The Chaos leaders reviewed the plan…

They couldn't refute it. It was too well thought-out.

Even more impressively, Eden—who had the strongest fleet—only took a smaller share than the others.

His sincerity and concern for the collective moved them.

They agreed.

Soon, the Chaos coalition descended on their assigned targets with frightening efficiency.

The looting became swift, orderly, and utterly devastating.

"How beautiful… a bright future for all…"

Eden nodded in satisfaction.

The Battle of Savagar had become a festival of joy. Everyone walked away with unimaginable riches.

Some Chaos factions might even feel grateful to Eden.

And as for Eden? He suffered almost no losses.

His fleet's designated zones were smaller—but strategically chosen.

"Tell the Carcharodons to hurry up. We need to get out of here before Abaddon shows!"

Eden checked the time and issued the order.

They had to leave before the Warmaster returned.

Otherwise, if he got angry and went after Eden… that'd be a mess.

Soon, the Redeemer Fleet joined the spree.

They looted vast quantities of Blackstone, Blackstone tech, ancient relics, and Chaos forges.

They even gifted some surplus loot—damaged armor, broken bolters, heavy weapons, busted vehicles—to other Chaos forces.

This act earned them even more goodwill.

Smiles covered the faces of Chaos warriors across the Eye of Terror.

Two days later…

Eden's fleet prepared to retreat.

But the Blood-Eye Orks were too hyped from looting and refused to leave.

Blood-Eye wanted to take one last shot at Abaddon before departing.

And he had grown quite fond of Eden's cunning.

Eden glanced at the "Blue is Luckiest" paint job on Blood-Eye's flagship and said nothing.

That guy probably wouldn't die from bad luck.

Besides, he still had Ironpry as da tactician—everything should be fine.

The Redeemer Fleet departed with three space fortresses, several dockyards, and even a frame of an Omen-class Ark.

Some time later.

BOOM!

The Warp rift violently cracked open.

The Omen Ark fleet emerged, leading the Chaos fleet back to the Black Legion's home base.

The Flesh Window.

Abaddon stood frozen, his blood-red eyes trembling—his entire massive body shaking like a leaf.

All the other Chaos warlords stared too, dumbfounded.

The Warmaster's voice wavered, full of disbelief:

"L-Lieutenant… Did we… did we come to the wrong place…?!"
