Chapter 3: Chapter 3
Leylin stood up and sat in a crossed legged position and according to memories of breathing technique started to practice.
'First, hold my breath, then take four long and two short breaths. Maintain the frequency and rhythm..'Leylin followed the Knight breathing technique, and gradually entered a state of cultivation.
He looked unconscious; his face was slightly pale and his glabella throbbed experiencing discomfort.
As time passed, Leylin's face gradually reddened, and eventually, he perspire some faint black coloured steam.
After he had maintained this process for over 30 minutes, Leylin opened both of his slightly red eyes and opened his mouth to exhale.
Phew! ! !
A black coloured breath was exhaled just like this.
Within his body, faint cracking noises could be made out.
Leylin stood up and moved his four limbs.
'What an uncomfortable technique..Is it probably because Farliers are low level knights and their breathing techniques are somewhat flawed?' Leylin thought while he felt that his whole body was warm as if he had just undergone a vigorous exercise. He wasn't much bothered about discomfort or pain, those things don't deter his resolve.
'Unfortunately this breathing technique can only be practiced once a day. Additional practice may even cause harm.' Leylin thought but he couldn't do anything about it.
'Well thankfully my progress is faster than this weakling in the past, probably because I have swapped souls with the original Leylin and my spirit is more suited for Knight technique.' Voldemort had the memories of the time when Leylin used to practice because of his father's relentless persuasion. Leylin to the say the least wasn't very talented but Voldemort has gained many times the benefit Leylin originally did, that's the only relief to him so far.
'As much as I know some medicine and herbs can be used to supplement a Knight training but how am I supposed to do any research here.' Leylin shook his head, an extensive research isn't possible. At most he can only randomly throw weed and fruits inside his mouth and hope he isn't poisoned to death.
While thinking about what to do, Leylin looked at his own body again. Some sticky substance had been produced after the breathing technique training, and it had a pungent smell.
'I guess I'll sleep.' Leylin laid down to get some rest. The sticky discomfort and smell isn't unbearable to him he has been through worse. As for others inside the carriage who might experience discomfort because of the smell, their problem didn't even cross his mind. Even if it did, he wouldn't have cared.
...
Days passed, turning into weeks. The journey was long and arduous, but Voldemort—Leylin—spent little time idling. Each night, as the other children slept, he diligently practiced the Knight Meditation Technique drilled into the original Leylin's mind by his father.
The results were noticeable. His body, previously weak and underwhelming, had begun to strengthen. His endurance increased, his muscles grew firmer, and his reflexes sharpened. However, true power still eluded him. He was far from a full-fledged Knight, let alone something beyond that.
Patience. He reminded himself often. Power is built over time.
Despite his progress, Leylin kept a low profile. He understood the nature of predators—both in the wizarding world and now in this one. The strong bullied the weak, and until he was confident in his ability to defend himself, it was best not to invite trouble. Instead, he carefully cultivated a single friendship—George of the Borunin family.
George was unlike the other brash, arrogant noble brats. Though proud, he carried himself with authority, naturally taking the role of leader among the young nobles in the carriage. More importantly, he possessed knowledge.
Through their conversations, Leylin learned about Grand Knights—a step beyond ordinary Knights.
Apparently in the muggle world no matter where they go, they are considered a great existence! Even kings might be hospitable to them.
Although impressed Leylin didn't envy them, because George clarified that a magus has an even more mysterious and stronger power compared to that of a Knight.
As long as he become a magus acolyte, his status is comparable to that of a Grand Knight. And if he become an actual Magus, then congratulations, killing a Grand Knight is easier than stepping on an ant.
Still for the current Leylin both were formidable existence. Voldemort kept probing George earning his friendship with his charm and learned many things which Leylin was oblivious to.
With Leylin growing strength, George also started to favour him even offering to help him spar and strengthen his fighting ability.
It had been over a month since he first began practising the Knight breathing technique. During this past month, the travelling party had already passed several small kingdoms.
Right now, Leylin's body state had not only caught up to his peers of the same age but had also surpassed some. Every night he religiously entered cultivation, and sparred regularly with George to polish his fighting technique.
Leylin was thankful that he learnt Knight meditation technique and invested into it because eventually, the travelling party entered the wilderness and encountered danger several times.
Although nobody had died yet, Leylin's sense of crisis had slowly grown stronger. According to what he gathered, the journey would be getting more audacious and dangerous, and if the Magi's indifference is any indication many would lose their life in coming future.
Rays of dawn shone brightly, the travelling party once again resumed its journey. Leylin sat alone in a corner with his legs crossed and eyes closed. The youths around him had all avoided him with disgust, allowing him to have quite a bit of space.
Leylin had a habit of practicing Knight meditation technique at night, his body releasing black odorous excretion but Leylin never washed until the black knights have camped the carriage around the lake.
Everybody in his carriage had to suffer smelling the bad odor but he didn't care.
Leylin made a point avoid going out alone because he had a keen sense of few children conspiring against him, although he had earned some defensive ability Leylin is still reluctant to fight.
'No matter how much others hate me, they don't dare take action in presence of the black robed knights and Magis. That means I also need to keep myself from conflict. For now I would slowly strengthen myself and keep my head down but I'll surely take my revenge. Mere ants dare to target me, I'll remember all of you.' Leylin thought venomously.
As Leylin thought, he entered meditation with half closed eyes.
Ding ling ling!
At this time, the travelling party had already stopped. The black robed man shook the bell in his hands: "Ladies and gentlemen! It is time to get off the carriage to have lunch!"
Leylin woke up alighting the carriage and receiving his own portion of food and sat in a corner. The food here is barely edible for most nobleborn but Leylin chewed on a piece of white bread without any care.
Such inconvenience are irrelevant to him, the only problem he had is how long the journey is. The cavern have been travelling for half a year and yet to reach the magus academy.
Leylin suddenly felt an intense gaze but didn't turn his head. He knows it's the red haired bastard who had killed the previous host of this body.
Suddenly footsteps approached—heavy, deliberate.
Ourin currently had his arms crossed in front of his chest as he smiled mockingly at Leylin. He walked towards Leylin with his group of followers.
"Leylin," Ourin drawled, his voice thick with amusement. "Not hiding tonight?"
Leylin glanced up lazily. "Why would I hide?"
"You..." Leylin's uncharacteristic indifference made Ourin speechless.
"You really have some nerve, don't you? After what you did to Bessita, you should be grateful you're still breathing." Ourin spoke loudly, his hands tightly clenched into fists.
Leylin remained silent, but internally, he sneered at the memories of the fool whose body he now inhabited. The original Leylin had been nothing but a wastrel, a spoiled noble brat who had brought this upon himself. He had tried to molest Bessita—one of the most influential girls in their group—but instead of succeeding, he had been killed for his efforts.
And then Voldemort had awoken in his place.
Unfortunately, Voldemort inherited his reputation. The old Leylin had been weak, pathetic, and now, even in death, his past sins haunted him.
"I have already resolved the issue with Bassita, I don't think it concerns you." Leylin said irritated.
Ourin clenched his teeth in anger, "Do you really think you can just act like nothing happened? That no one will pay you back for it?"
Leylin met his gaze evenly. "If I recall correctly, I did pay for it. With my life nearly."
Ourin frowned. "Tch. A coward's way of dodging blame."
Leylin sighed, stretching his arms as if bored. "What is it you really want, Ourin? You wouldn't waste your breath just to remind me of my sins."
Ourin's smirk returned. "Not as dumb as you look." He took a step closer, looming over him. "You have to make an oath to never bother Bessita aga.."
"Alright done." Even before Ourin completed his sentence Leylin promised. "But I have a feeling that's not the only thing you want, do you?"
Ourin smirked, "Hand me your magic crystals."
Leylin squinted but didn't react. Magic crystals were a form of currency among Magi, especially for those without credentials to enter an academy.
To demand Magic crystals is equivalent to cutting someone's future, as expected the murder of Leylin are very ruthless.
'Ourin, you mudblood! I'll let you feel deepest despair before I kill you.' Leylin looked at Ourin with menace and couldn't help but curse internally, even 14 year old kids here are so ruthless. It's a crazy world!
Magis crystals were precious, and many nobles here had brought them along to secure their futures.
But Leylin had none.
His father, Viscount John, had tried everything—negotiations, deals, bribes—but even he could not obtain a single crystal. That was how rare they were.
Of course, Ourin didn't know that.
