Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Key Spell/Trap Support! The AG Fusion Beatdown!
Professor Crowler swallowed hard, his gaze repeatedly scanning back and forth between these few monster cards. The more he looked, the more his heart pounded. This Ancient Gear... was already beyond his comprehension! He felt like it was becoming a stranger to him.

5DS World
After a simple look at the in-archetype monsters, Yusei Fudo had become interested in this archetype. It was inherently based on Fusion, but these cards didn't seem to involve much related to Fusion, unlike HEROes, where many monster cards could search for something like Polymerization to play with, or use Mask Change for a Masked HERO transformation.
"Ancient Gears, the low-level monsters are indeed quite interesting," Jack Atlas said, squinting at the Riding Duel screen. "They all provide the possibility of summoning while ignoring conditions. So in itself, this archetype doesn't have to rely solely on the Fusion engine. If I remember correctly, the Duel Academy here also seems to have this archetype, right?"
Hearing this, Yusei nodded thoughtfully. It was true. Because the Ancient Gear deck had already become a legacy deck of Duel Academy. Even in a parallel world with a different worldview, the Ancient Gear deck would still exist. Yusei had the impression that he had dueled against an Ancient Gear player before.

ZEXAL World
For an archetype that wasn't an Xyz build and didn't run many Xyz monsters, Yuma and the others didn't pay too much attention. But after seeing the very few Xyz cards, Yuma was a bit stunned! Those few Xyz cards? They seemed to be... no, wait! They were! Number cards! One of them was Number 41!
"Astral! Look quickly!" Yuma exclaimed. "That card is a Number card! Another Number card has appeared!"
Hearing this, Astral immediately looked at the so-called Number 41! It really was a Number card! It was Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir!
"Another Number card?" Astral said, his disbelief growing. "Alright, alright, it can be confirmed. Yuma, that world definitely has information on all the Number cards! It's just that, like here, they seem to have almost every one of them." Although Astral couldn't believe his own conclusion, the facts were right in front of him. He had no choice but to admit it. This world... possessed all the Number cards!

In the short video...
Ancient Gear is Faith: "Of course, these monsters are not the main point. Actually, for the in-archetype combos, one Wyvern is enough. The key is still the Spells and Traps in the AG system. As for why I say this? We'll know after looking at a few Spell cards. After seeing them, I think you'll understand what I mean. Let's start with this one. The most crucial, must-run 3-of card in AG, Ancient Gear Catapult!!!" (Note: The text says进军/Advance, but describes Catapult. Using the correct name for the effect)
"Why do I say this? Because this card's first effect lets us add one 'Ancient Gear' Spell/Trap from our deck to our hand, except itself. Like Wyvern, it has a powerful search effect! And the second effect! Once per turn, you can Tribute one monster you control; draw one card, and for the rest of this turn, you can apply the following effect. If you would Tribute Summon an 'Ancient Gear Golem' or a Level 5 or higher monster that lists it in its text, you can do so without Tributing. With just these two effects, its value is already maxed out, right?"
Indeed! Setting aside the self-restriction similar to Wyvern, the enhancement this card brought in terms of effects was enormous! Summoning high-level in-archetype monsters without Tributing once again proved an important point! Summoning ace monsters had become ridiculously easy!
Ancient Gear is Faith: "Then there's the in-archetype Spell Card Ancient Gear Catapult! Its first effect, if you control no monsters, you can destroy one card you control to Special Summon one 'Ancient Gear' monster from your deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions. You can summon an ace monster, or summon Wyvern to continue searching! Its second effect is that you can banish this card from your Graveyard, target one face-up card you control; destroy it, and Special Summon one 'Ancient Gear Token' (Machine/EARTH/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0) to your field. At this point, you'll notice that both effects of this key card involve destroying your own cards, right? Has anyone thought about why?"
Yeah? Why? This question baffled the duelists across the six worlds. They really hadn't noticed that most of the Ancient Gear Spell cards had effects that wasted their own resources. If they were destroying the opponent's cards, that would be understandable. But why were they all destroying their own cards? Was there some kind of combo that could be pulled off this way?
While they were still confused, Ancient Gear is Faith immediately threw out the combo pieces!
Card 1! The Field Spell Geartown! It allows you to reduce the Tributes needed for in-archetype summons by one. But when it is destroyed, you can Special Summon one "Ancient Gear" monster from your hand, deck, or Graveyard!
Card 2! The Continuous Spell Ancient Gear Fortress! Setting aside its other effects, it also has an effect that when it is destroyed, you can Special Summon an "Ancient Gear" monster! However, only from the hand and Graveyard!
After seeing these two combo pieces, the duelists of the GX world were finally and completely crushed! I see! This is not strange at all! The seemingly negative effect of destroying your own cards is not strange at all! It turns out it was to trigger the Special Summon effects of these cards! To continuously summon in-archetype monsters!
When did summoning ace Ancient Gear monsters become so easy? It was really like summoning them for free! First, you have monsters that help summon while ignoring conditions. Then you have Spells that destroy your own cards to Special Summon from three different places.
After a moment of shock, Professor Crowler became excited! This was the Ancient Gear he wanted! Crowler had always been troubled by the difficulty of summoning so many powerful high-level monsters! Now, after seeing the information on the monsters and Spell cards, he was no longer worried. He was definitely no longer worried. Ancient Gear had a bright future ahead!
"Hahaha! Chancellor Sheppard! Did you see that?" Crowler put his hands on his hips, his head held high with a triumphant air, as if he had already forgotten about the previously showcased decks. "I told you Ancient Gears weren't simple! After all, it's the signature deck of us professors! It has to be strong!" He had conveniently forgotten that HEROes, Dark Magician, Blue-Eyes, and Eldlich were all decks that were no less powerful than Ancient Gears.
"Ahem! Professor Crowler," Chancellor Sheppard wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Let's see the Fusion monsters first." Crowler's reaction was a bit more than he had expected. But on second thought, it was normal. To see your own exclusive deck get a power boost in a higher world, it would be strange not to be excited.
...
In the Main World, the short video was still playing. Yusei Hoshi had been watching Professor Crowler's reactions in the GX Duel World chat the whole time. After reading the comments, Yusei chuckled. As expected, Professor Crowler was going crazy. And he also saw the reactions and discussions of the others.
"Phew, interesting, interesting," Yusei mused. "Being able to see the live comments is really cool. I can see what everyone is muttering. Some are complaining, some are praising. It seems the Ancient Gear video is getting a good response. So, next up is the Extra Deck explanation." Yusei narrowed his eyes, clicked on the video, and it continued to play. The video blogger's voice soon rang out.
Ancient Gear is Faith: "At this point, I believe everyone has a certain understanding of the Ancient Gear deck. That makes the following explanation much easier. I said before, to get your plays started, you really only need one Wyvern, right? So the question is, all these monsters, all these Spells and Traps, they are actually all for one purpose: to help us perform a Fusion Summon. To bring out the strongest Fusion ace of AG! And then help us defeat the enemy. Alright, so what do you summon going first? And what do you summon going second? Actually, in the in-archetype system, there isn't much distinction. Because AG itself is a go-second OTK deck. Therefore, most of the Fusion monsters are cards with a strong offensive desire. For example, this one, Ancient Gear Chaos Giant!!!"
[Card Name: Ancient Gear Chaos Giant (Level 10)]
[Attribute: DARK]
[Type: Machine]
[ATK/DEF: 4500/3000]
4500 ATK? The duelists across the six worlds all jolted when they saw this attack stat! And looking at the Fusion requirement! Four "Ancient Gear" monsters! The difficulty was not low! But its effects were extremely terrifying!
Effect 1: While this card is in the Monster Zone, this card is unaffected by Spell/Trap effects and your opponent cannot activate monster effects during the Battle Phase. (In short, it has Spell/Trap immunity and a battle phase monster effect lockdown!)
Effect 2: This card can attack all monsters your opponent controls, once each. If it attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent. (Not only is its offensive desire maxed out, but it also has piercing damage! The combination of the two made it an absolute killing machine!)
Ancient Gear is Faith: "One of the strong OTK Fusion cards. I'll explain how to summon it later, so don't worry. Now let's look at another powerful offensive card. Ancient Gear Megaton Golem!!!"
[Card Name: Ancient Gear Megaton Golem (Level 9)]
[Attribute: EARTH]
[Type: Machine]
[ATK/DEF: 3300/3300] (Note: The text says DARK, using official EARTH attribute)
There's more?! More cards for a powerful OTK?! With a jolt of surprise, the duelists of the six worlds turned their gaze to this AG monster with lower ATK than the last one!
Effect 1: Battle Phase Spell/Trap lockdown, nothing much to say. The unique legacy effect of the archetype!
Effect 2: If this card was Fusion Summoned using 2 or more "Ancient Gear Golem" and/or "Ancient Gear Golem - Ultimate Pound" as material, it can make that many attacks during each Battle Phase! (An effect with no less offensive desire!)
Effect 3: If this card, that was Fusion Summoned, leaves the field because of an opponent's card effect: You can Special Summon 1 "Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem" from your Extra Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions.
Wait a minute? What kind of absurd final word effect was that? Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem? Wasn't that the 4400 ATK ace Fusion monster with a battle phase Spell/Trap lockdown, piercing damage, and a final word effect that could revive an Ancient Gear Golem? You can play like that?!
...
GX World
Jaden Yuki was stunned! Was this a continuous nesting doll effect? Ancient Gear Megaton Golem leaves the field and brings out Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem! Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem leaves the field and brings out Ancient Gear Golem! This one battle destruction would lead to an unstoppable chain reaction! The key was that all these cards had a battle phase lockdown. And their ATK was not lower than 3000! This was too disgusting, wasn't it? When did Professor Crowler's deck start going in this nesting doll direction?
The other students who had watched this were all trembling. The original Ancient Gear, which already represented the dignity of the teachers, was scary enough for the students. Now with such a power-up, they were even more terrified.
