We're Not Gods,Just Normal Family Trying to Live a Normal Life

Chapter 9: The Wrong Package

The day began peacefully, a rarity in the Son-Wu household. Li-Yan Mei was cooking breakfast while Son-Wu San read the news on his tablet. Xian Xue and Xian Long were busy drawing pictures of what they called "our supernormal family adventures," which mostly consisted of Fluffy battling dragons in the backyard.

"See, this is nice," Son-Wu San said, sipping his tea. "A quiet, normal morning."

As if summoned by irony itself, the doorbell rang.

"I'll get it!" Xian Long said, leaping up.

"Wait!" Li-Yan Mei called, but the boy was already halfway to the door.

He flung it open to reveal a delivery man holding a large, ominous-looking package wrapped in black paper. The man looked nervous, shifting his weight from one foot to the other.

"Package for... uh..." He checked his clipboard. "The Son family."

"That's us!" Xian Long said cheerfully, taking the package.

"Be careful with that," the delivery man said, his voice trembling. "It's... fragile."

Before Xian Long could ask any questions, the man bolted back to his truck, speeding away like he was escaping a crime scene.

"Mom! Dad! We got a package!" Xian Long shouted, carrying it into the living room.

Li-Yan Mei walked in, wiping her hands on a towel. "I didn't order anything. Did you?"

Son-Wu San shook his head. "No. What's in it?"

The kids eagerly tore into the wrapping, revealing a glossy black box covered in strange runes that pulsed faintly with light.

"That doesn't look normal," Li-Yan Mei said, her eyes narrowing.

"It's probably a mistake," Son-Wu San said, though he didn't sound convinced.

Xian Xue leaned in close, her curiosity getting the better of her. "What do you think is inside?"

"Only one way to find out," Xian Long said, lifting the lid.

As soon as the box opened, a burst of dark energy shot out, spiraling into the air and forming a swirling vortex in the middle of the living room. The furniture shook, and the lights flickered.

"Coooool!" Xian Long and Xian Xue said in unison.

Li-Yan Mei and Son-Wu San exchanged a look of pure exasperation before jumping into action.

"What did I just say about keeping things quiet?" Li-Yan Mei shouted, pulling the kids back.

"I thought it was just a normal package!" Xian Long protested.

Before anyone could say more, a shadowy figure began to emerge from the vortex. It was tall, menacing, and covered in dark armor, its glowing red eyes scanning the room.

"Who dares summon me, the great Void Warden?!" the figure bellowed, his voice shaking the walls.

Fluffy growled from his spot on the couch, his fur bristling as he prepared to pounce.

Son-Wu San stepped forward, crossing his arms. "First of all, we didn't summon you. Second, why are you in my living room?"

The Void Warden hesitated, his intimidating aura faltering slightly. "You... didn't summon me?"

"No," Li-Yan Mei said, her tone sharp. "We just opened a package that was apparently delivered to the wrong address."

The Void Warden blinked, clearly caught off guard. "I... see. Well, this is awkward."

"Very," Son-Wu San said dryly.

Xian Xue raised her hand like she was in school. "Um, excuse me, Mr. Void Warden, sir? What's in the box?"

The Warden glanced down at the now-empty container. "A cursed artifact of unimaginable power. I was supposed to retrieve it from a summoner, not... whatever this is." He gestured vaguely at the family.

"Unimaginable power, huh?" Xian Long said, his eyes lighting up. "Can I see it?"

"No!" Li-Yan Mei and the Warden said at the same time.

"I think there's been a mix-up," Son-Wu San said. "Why don't you take your artifact and vortex and leave?"

The Void Warden looked embarrassed. "I would, but... the artifact's energy seems to have bonded to this location. I can't remove it."

"What does that mean?" Li-Yan Mei asked, narrowing her eyes.

"It means your house is now the epicenter of a cursed energy field," the Warden admitted.

"Wonderful," Son-Wu San muttered.

"Can you fix it?" Li-Yan Mei demanded.

The Warden shifted uncomfortably. "Not exactly. I can suppress the energy, but only if I stay here to monitor it."

"Absolutely not," Son-Wu San said.

"We already have enough chaos in this house," Li-Yan Mei added.

"Do you want your entire neighborhood to be consumed by dark energy?" the Warden countered.

The family exchanged a look.

"Fine," Son-Wu San said reluctantly. "But you're staying in the guest room, and you're paying rent."

"Rent?" the Warden repeated, looking offended.

"Rules are rules," Li-Yan Mei said firmly.

And so, the Void Warden found himself awkwardly standing in the living room of a family that was far more terrifying than he could have ever imagined. As the vortex closed and the house returned to normal, the kids crowded around him, bombarding him with questions about his powers and the artifact.

"This is going to be a long eternity," the Warden muttered under his breath.

Fluffy barked in agreement, wagging his tail as if to say, Welcome to the family.
