What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?

Chapter 551: You Want To Leave?

We've already left the station for a few days and nothing else has happened so far.

Initially, I was worried that the guy might realise which ship we're on and give chase but that fear has mostly subsided after these few days.

Things basically went back to normal on the ship.

Lea was tending the hydroponics garden, Mara was taking care of everyone's health as the ship doctor, Ries was fixing up the power armour that was damaged by Mara's brother, Amber was helping out with the ship's logistics, and I was occupied with keeping my crew fed and satisfied.

For today in particular, I decided that I had procrastinated on the topic for long enough so I went to find Mara in her medical room.

The door slid open as I approached, revealing Mara currently hunched over her desk while working behind a complicated looking machine.

"Mara?" I called out.

"Yes, Captain?" My doctor answered without turning away from the machine.

"I was thinking that we should talk?"

She paused for a moment, "I assume this is about my brother? Or perhaps about my Family?"

"Yes… If you don't mind?"

"Of course I don't, Captain. Frankly, I'm surprised that it took you this long to confront me about it."

She pushed herself away from the machine to turn and face me, prompting me to step into the room proper and let the door slide shut behind me.

I scratched my cheek, "Well… I wouldn't say 'confront', actually… And I guess I just couldn't find a good time to come and talk to you since the last few days we were worried he might just show up behind us or something."

Mara raised her hand, "You need not say anything more, Captain. I'm already pretty much packed so just stop at the next station and I will be off the ship."

She then gestured to the side and I realised that there were several boxes already stacked there and that side of the room was mostly empty.

I turned back to blink at her and the only thing I could say was, "What?"

Mara's brows lowered slightly, "Don't worry, Captain. Everything I took was what I brought along on your ship. Anything that you have bought for the ship with your Credits I have left them all untouched. So when you get a new ship doctor, they will be able to use them."

I raised my hands, "Wait, wait, wait… Slow down a little. What are you talking about? What is this about dropping you off at a station? Are you going back to fight your brother or something? Why do you even need to do that? It's not like he is tracking us or something, is he? Wait, can he? Don't tell me he can…"

Mara didn't answer me immediately and simply stared at me for a good long minute.

Err… Why is she looking at me like that?

I almost thought that she might not have heard what I said until she finally reacted.

"I don't understand, Captain…" She muttered in a voice almost too soft to hear.

"What do you mean? Aren't I the one that's confused right now?"

"No… What I mean is… Aren't I supposed to be leaving this ship?"

I felt my heart drop and I immediately ran up to her and grabbed her shoulders, "What?! You're leaving?! Why?! Was there something wrong with the food I made last night? I knew I should have added more salt to the soup!!"

Mara quickly placed her hand on my chest, "Captain. Your cooking is always wonderful. There will never be a day where I will ever, ever think that your cooking is not good enough."

"Then why? Why are you leaving?!"

"I'm the one that's surprised here, Captain. I thought you would be here to ask me to leave the ship."

"Why would I even do that?!"

She raised an eyebrow, "Isn't it because I am too big of a risk to keep around?"

"Too big of a risk? Wait… Is this about your Family coming after you? Haven't we already talked about this?"

"That's before you saw for yourself how dangerous keeping me here was. You've only met my brother who isn't even the strongest Psionic in my Family and almost died. If they knew you were helping to harbour me, they would definitely kill you without hesitation."

I raised my hand at her, "Ok, hold on. First of all, I got into that altercation with your brother not because of you but because of something entirely unrelated in the first place. So without you around, I would have died."

"Amber would have been able to save you."

"Yeah, by killing him right? And how bad of an idea would that be if a Noble died in this station?"

She hesitated, "My Family would most likely launch an investigation to search for the culprit and then most likely find you and Amber…"

"So we'll be even more screwed if you weren't there. Anyway, that was why you didn't kill him right?"

She nodded, "He's really prideful so he wouldn't tell the Family that he was beaten by me and would rather chase after us on his own than admit it. In fact, he might even just give up completely if he thinks we aren't worth it."

"Right. So why do you think I would ask you to leave? You've done nothing to even make me think about that. In fact, you're already my woman and I'm a really possessive person. You're not going anywhere without my say so."

She smiled at me, "Really now… And what happens if my Family comes knocking on your ship's door telling you to hand me over?"

"Then we fight our way out and fly as far as possible from them of course! The universe is vast isn't it? And you heard what Lea said, even if we were to just spend several years floating in space, we would be completely fine!"

"Captain… I'm afraid at this point, you still do not understand how influential and powerful the Noble Families are…"

I stepped back and huffed, "Hmph… Worse comes to worse, I'll just cook a meal for them and trade them for you."

I was joking of course, since I doubt Mara's family would actually trade away Mara whom they are trying to use to gain more power over a plate of fried rice or something.

But Mara actually furrowed her brows in deep thought, "That… That might actually work… No, they might actually switch their target to you instead, Captain. Don't ever do that."

Is she actually being serious? Please value yourself more, Mara. You're worth more than just some food that I can cook up…

"Anyway, you're not going anywhere, got it? You're my woman. If anyone wants to take you, they will have to go through me first!"

Her lips curled up into a smile, "Yes, Captain."

I turned to look at the boxes in the corner, "I'll help you unpack right now, I guess."

She chuckled, "Fufu~ There's no need, Captain. I can't trouble you to do that after I did something as foolish as this. But, weren't you looking for me for another reason then? You said it was something related to my Family?"

"Oh right, I almost forgot. I was going to ask you to talk about your Family so I can better prepare us in case we have to clash against them again."

She looked at me seriously in the eyes, "No, Captain. We will not fight against my Family if they appear, Captain. Like you said earlier, we should just run away as fast as we can. Had my brother been serious about trying to kill all of us, even I would not have been able to stop him. I may be a better telepath than he is but his telekinetic abilities are better than mine. And he is not even the strongest in my Family."

"What about Amber?" I asked.

Mara rolled her eyes, "Amber is on another level altogether. But even she can't take on the entire Family on her own and to be honest, if she is defeated, my Family wouldn't kill her but a fate worse than death will await her."

"Let me guess, they'll use her as a breeder to try and get more powerful Psionic children…"

She nodded, "Elemental Psionics are extremely rare. Less than one percent of the human population in existence is a Psionic and the number of Elemental Psionics amongst the Psionic population is even less than that. If an Elemental Psionic were to appear that isn't tied to any Noble Family, every single Noble Family will be trying to get them to their side using any means possible. So I would even dare say that Amber's powers should be kept more secret than mine."

Well… Usually Amber's the one who is showing off her powers and not me asking her to do so…

Mara let out a soft sigh, "Anyway, I can still talk about my Family but it'll be a long story… And I think the others also deserve to hear about them as well so let's talk about this over dinner instead, Captain."

Hmm… I guess that's fine then. Guess I'll have to make a good dinner for everyone tonight.
