Chapter 2: Do you exist of no one knows you're there?
Fusion warriors. They'd come out of chance, with a touch of destiny, almost 3 centuries ago, along with strange apparitions that took the form of monsters, threatening the existence of humanity in their peaceful era. The entire world's militaries went out to halt these apparition monsters, made of strange, mist-like material, and managed, with the cost of millions of deaths, to lure almost all of them to Australia, where they evacuated all the humans from, and then, sent all the nuclear missiles stowed in China, Russian, USA, and every other country with a stockpile onto them. The entire Australia instantly became a toxic death zone, humans would die upon entering it, but the result was that the monsters were successfully evaporated from existence…but that wasn't the end. With the nuke that hit Australia, it split the mist monsters into small particles, flying through the air and becoming one with the atmosphere, affecting all the people of the world with it, those closest to Australia the strongest, the farther they were, the weaker it was, and humanity as a whole fell ill. Almost a quarter of the remaining population died from the vapors, before they finally dissipated into space, but those that lived through that time, their genes had changed, and they had awakened with a strange ability to 'fuse' with something, currently existing, or what could potentially exist.
Humanity, excited that they now had superhuman abilities, quickly dispatched to remove the remaining beasts, but those mist monsters still left, seemed to have dissipated with the huge wave of vapor sent out from Australia. So, they thought, this strange invasion must be over…
But it wasn't.
Not even 40 years later, and humanity was once again invaded with strange creatures. They had yet to find the gate they came from, however, strange distortions happened in the space of their world, and monsters of various forms kept entering into the atmosphere, so humanity, with their newly-developed powers, began to fight back against them.
To become fused with something, the person had to touch it.
As for the fusion warriors, they were quickly differentiated into 4 tiers. And in each tier they could either be incomplete, partially fusing with their object, or fully fused. 4th tier, they could fuse with another living thing, this was the majority of humanity, 3rd tier, they could fuse with a normal object, this was one in a thousand, 2nd tier, they could fuse with a rare object, only one in a million managed to be born with one of these, and 1st tier, those that fused with something intangible, the only tier that the person would not have to touch it to fuse with it, but would would only happen by chance. The rarest kind, only 1 in a billion children were ever born with this, they were praised as humanity's greatest achievements, their greatest hope, in a way. Although, they had been working on ways to artificially replicate such abilities more often in their youth, until then, fusion powers were still only passed down genetically.
Thus, rose the current 1 of 2 tier 1 fusion power holders, the warrior, Lysa Gravenstein. She, like her father, had somehow fused with space itself. However, unlike her father, who was only partially fused, she had been born completely fused, which meant she could even teleport her own body or others into different spaces. The Gravenstein family was the only family from the western hemisphere, the Americas, to have unlocked a tier 1 fusion power.
However, today, Lysa Gravenstein was making an incredibly distorted face, completely different then her beautiful, composed self that was postured before the crowds. "So I have to go all the way over to those back-ward, warmonger countries! What, just because a city over there disappeared?!"
An older man, sitting behind a desk in front of her, sighed, pulling his glasses down to rub his nose, in annoyance.
"I mean, it's just a random city, and nothing else outside of it got touched, no new monster in sight, I don't even see why they need to call us over there? Why not come over here if they just want to meet up??"
"Lysa…" Her father interrupted her. "Are you even thinking?" Sometimes, his daughter…She really lacked oversight. However, she could take an insult, and at his words, simply frowned at him, slapping herself down onto a chair.
"What, am I missing something?" she took out a piece of gum, chewing on it, obnoxiously.
"Think, Lysa, a city disappeared…but there are no monsters to be found, or any reason to it have done so, and an unknown variable, is always the most dangerous."
She nodded. "Fine by that sense, but why bring me along?"
"We need to show them that we are willing to go out in full strength for them against this unknown force, so that they will also stand with us if the time arises, if I refused to bring out our largest powerhouse, wouldn't that be a sign of lack of trust?"
"Oooooh, I see." Suddenly Lysa smiled, chuckling. "So then you're bringing the Other, sounds good, I'll just chill out here then~" she got up to leave.
"No." His voice stopped her from leaving. She whirled around, angry.
"What do you mean? You can't mean to bring me along? What would bringing me do?"
Her father stood up, closing his tablet. "I'll bring both of you, so start packing your bags, we'll be gone for around a week, maybe two."
"Tch." she was annoyed, but her dad dismissed her from the office, not listening to any of her complaints, so she went into her room, kicking over her chair in frustration. A woman, sitting in the corner, clothed in black, with the same, model-face as Lysa's own, looked up from her reading on a tablet at the noise.
"Ah, he was gonna bring you too for that thing?" She commented lazily, tilting her body backward, and resting the tablet on her chest.
She got a book thrown at her by the spoiled brat. "And you, why is it you always know about these things first? Am I just an ornament here?"
The Other for a moment, fell silent, after all, what Lysa had said was somewhat true, despite her temperament, and just as much as she was an ornament, the Other was just a tool.
—
The helicopter threw dust into the air, as it's blades began to beat, rising up into the sky, and a beautiful woman, with shocking red-dyed hair with black stripes, sat nearby another woman, with straight white hair, holding a long sword, almost three feet in length, which she leaned against a little, her eyes unfocused, as she traced her black painted nails along her neck.
"Stop thinking that." The red-haired woman rolled her eyes.
"Ah, it's you today, Other." commented the white-washed woman, lazily. She was one of the few who could tell at first glance the differences between the real and the shadow, having been Lysa's friend since youth.
The Other's spacial abilities had fused at birth, Luke Gravenstein had somehow found out about it, his own daughter, showing no fusion abilities thus far, had taken her from her parents, killing both. She had been raised in secret, her own face had been changed with plastic surgery to match Lysa's and her hair dyed constantly to whatever color struck Lysa's own fancy at the time. She was lucky her body had grown to be of similar size and shape, only an inch taller, and a little bit more well-endowed, so the surgeries had stopped at her face and hairline. She also went through skin treatments to keep it lighter, like Lysa's.
She often ended up in front of the mirror, staring at her face, wondering what it should have originally looked like, if it hadn't been surgically changed since youth. Would her original face have grown to being beautiful? Ugly? She would never know. And everyday, never able to walk a step without someone's permission or knowhow…It was hard to live when you yourself didn't exist in this world.
"Yeah, Lysa is hiding out today," in the rest area the South Korean nation had established to house the european/northern, american, and african/middle east dignitaries, while they all met up within South Korea, where the current asian-union had established as their main meeting point of sorts, for what had recently transpired in southern China.
The white-haired woman once again began to rub her neck, fantasies tracing through her mind, beautiful knives, cutting through her flesh…blood dripping out…her body slowly losing heat...her heart slowing…
'Slap!' Suddenly her hand stung, a red mark quickly forming on it. It hurt, how annoying, she hated pain, she thought, instantly falling out of her delusions.
"Stop thinking about such things, Geria…" grumbled the Other. "It's not good for your mentality."
Geria had a suicidal tendencies, due to her messed up genes and intensive pressure and training growing up. She had several burdens on her shoulders, all through her youth, from her family falling from the most prestigious metal-fusion clan, to now barely standing on two feet. However, her heritage was indeed good, made up of most of the metal-fusion warriors in europe, who had banded together, to intermarry and create the perfect alloy. Thus, her mother and father's relationship was very strained, only marrying out of metal type fusion traits, rather than anything else. But it wasn't for naught, because so far, Geria had been born as someone able to fuse with the strongest, most flexible alloy known to mankind thus far.
"...But I don't know what to doooo." Geria looked on the verge of crying.
"What's up?" commented the Other, curiously. "Is this about university again?"
There were few fusion universities, but if you got into one, to graduate was to go directly into an official spot of governmental military power, Geria had been lucky enough to have a supreme family which got her a spot in one, but her studies…
"...I'm failing again." Cried Geria. Her parents would kill her if they knew she was failing, her senior year. If she didn't graduate well, since there was no retaking classes or years in university in the Fusion Era, due to how few placements there were for students, and a lack of resources or available staff to teach, if she failed this time, she would graduate without a degree and lose any kind of badge of authority entering into the military without it. And the military was everything, especially for her Fisalia family.
"...you're so dead." The Other comforted, rubbing her back.
"I did well on all the exams!" Justified Geria, "It's just those stupid assignments…wuahahaha."
Geria was a genius, but with her genius came a lot of laziness to counterbalance it, so that the world remained fair and…she usually failed last minute at any extended things such as classes. However, there was no better hand to have one's back on the battlefield. She'd already made a name for herself there as well, hence why she was with the dignitary from the americas and europe, who decided to arrive together.
They finally landed, and the two girls both disembarked, onto the top of a tall sky-scraper, a testament to the power of the Asian nations, able to build such great cities still, despite the monster invasions happening all around.
Luke Gravenstein was there to greet her as she came out of the helicopter. She took the extended hand, a warm smile on her face.
"Let's go ahead of them, shall we?" He commented, slyly, cheekily. He had somehow obtained a blueprint of the building for her earlier along with where they would meet. So, spreading out her consciousness, she easily felt the rooms beneath them and decided to enter into the air in that space instead of where she was currently, along with the man, who's elbow she was holding, gracefully, and they appeared before a room of dignitaries, men in suits, all lounging about on chairs, or having drinks at the refreshment's area in the back, their appearance immediately drawing eyes all around. She sighed in her mind, restraining herself from rolling her eyes. Luke Gravenstein had an addiction to showing off. She could already feel the annoyance and wariness by everyone in the room rising.
She looked up to smile politely at their first target, who'd resolved himself to approach first.
