Chapter 123: Chapter 97. When the Monster Stand
"He merged with those disgusting monsters?"
"How deep does your hatred for us run, Gilles de Rais, that you would birth such demonic creatures?"
"This is bad. We've got our hands full here!"
As the Biblical Leaders focused on the horrifying abominations Gilles had summoned, Black Flash seized the moment. Activating Spell Steal, he absorbed the lingering traces of the Crimson Demon Lord's magical essence, his mind processing the data at an inhuman speed.
"Lord Over Heaven: Creation."
With a flick of his wrist, a book materialized in his hands, its cute cover adorned with cheerful Vaporeon illustrations.
Fatalis blinked.
"My~ My~ Such adorable taste you have, kiddo. What're you planning next?" she teased, resting her chin on his shoulder as she inspected the book.
Black Flash puffed out his chest with unshakable pride.
"Heh! My mission is to spread the cuteness of Vaporeon to the world! Witness my awesomeness!"
With a dramatic flourish, he flipped open the book to a page, revealing a special card with Sirzechs Lucifer's face. Without hesitation, he inserted it into his Legend Driver.
[Steal Card: Ruin the Extinct]
Fatalis narrowed her eyes.
'I see… This is similar to Chrollo Lucifer's ability, but instead of a book, he uses cards to activate stolen powers…'
Serafall blinked in surprise.
"A child card book? That's… not what I expected from him."
Michael, watching closely, felt a deep sense of unease.
"What… exactly is he planning?"
Black Flash's grin widened.
"My turn now!"
A dark crimson aura erupted around him, warping the space with raw, chaotic destruction. The energy swirled and twisted, its form—impossibly—taking the shape of a giant, furious-looking chicken.
"Now… I activate my Magic Card! Prepare yourselves!"
Sirzechs' eyes widened in disbelief.
"This power… Impossible! Who are you?!"
Serafall took a step back.
"Destruction Magic?! How can some shady guy copy Sirzechs-chan's power?!"
Michael immediately began chanting defensive magic, his instincts screaming at him to prepare for impact.
Meanwhile—
"Oi… Oi… Isn't this a bit too much?!"** Satria's clone muttered. He turned to Kazuma, only to realize—
Kazuma had already fainted.
"The hell?! Wake up, you idiot!"** Satria's clone slapped him across the face.
Kazuma groaned, cracking an eye open.
"Ugh… What happened? That hurt, moron."
Then he noticed the swirling storm of world-ending destruction magic forming overhead.
His face went pale.
"... Yeah. No. Wake me up when it's over."
"Like hell I will!" Satria's clone dragged him away from the battlefield.
Black Flash raised his hand.
"TASTE THE FURY OF VEGAN! RUIN THE SPICY CHICKEN!"
A single motion—
BOOOOM!
A torrential wave of crimson energy erupted outward, expanding into an unstoppable tsunami of pure annihilation. The ground shattered beneath its force. The very air distorted, consumed by a sea of destruction that threatened to erase everything in its wake.
And at the center of it all—
The chicken-shaped aura screamed in rage.
"Not only do you suck at naming your pets and systems, but you also suck at naming your skills!" Fatalis crossed her arms, unimpressed. "There is no way I'm letting you name our future children, idiot."
A voice chimed in.
[You hit the nail on the head, Black Dragon. Let's all take a moment to pray that the host gets hit on the head and miraculously turns into a decent person]
Black Flash scowled. "Oi! Who asked you?!"
Fatalis, however, narrowed her eyes at the mysterious entity speaking. "Oh… You're the new kid, aren't you?" She tilted her head, curiosity piqued. "What exactly are you? Where do you come from, son?"
The voice answered without hesitation.
[Where I come from, I am called Manas—an innate ability to freely manipulate infons and exist purely as information. I was sent here by my creator to assist the host in reaching his greatest potential as quickly as possible]
Fatalis raised an eyebrow. "Who's your creator?"
There was a brief pause before it responded.
[That data… is unknown. My memory was intentionally wiped to safeguard the mission. But one thing is certain: the host is crucial to something that will happen soon. Without his actions, the future is in jeopardy]
Fatalis' expression darkened as she processed this revelation.
'Manas? From my mate's memories, that should only exist in that world, right? Just how deep is my puppy's connection with that place?'
A deep frown crossed her face as she recalled a past conversation with her husband.
When she had asked him about that anime, he had yawned and waved it off. "Too many long-winded meeting scenes. I tried watching, but I dozed off halfway."
Fatalis sighed. 'That world may be boring, but its power isn't something we can ignore. We'll need contingency plans. But… that can wait until after we're done playing with these guys.'
The leaders of the Biblical Faction had mere seconds to react. Instinct took over as they raised their arms, pouring every ounce of their divine strength into a massive barrier.
But it was futile.
The crimson tsunami roared forward, its sheer force shattering the hastily formed barrier like fragile glass. The shockwave followed immediately after, sending the mighty Biblical leaders hurling through the air like ragdolls.
The flames surged outward, consuming everything in their path. The earth shook violently, cracks forming in the battlefield as the sheer force of destruction threatened to swallow the world itself.
•
"Did we win?"
Rias Gremory's voice was uncertain, her breath coming in short gasps. Thick smoke clouded the battlefield, obscuring her vision. The sheer force of her last attack had sent shockwaves through the area, leaving the ground scorched and fractured.
But something felt off.
Before she could even process the situation, a deafening explosion tore through the silence, sending a tremor beneath their feet.
The moment the dust settled, Rias and her allies were horrified by the sight before them.
The leaders of the Biblical Faction lay sprawled across the shattered ground, their once-unshakable presence now battered and broken. Their regal robes were torn, their bodies struggling to move.
And standing at the center of the devastation—unscathed, radiating an overwhelming aura—was Black Flash.
His presence alone exuded the same raw destructive energy as Sirzechs Lucifer's magic, and yet… there was something far worse about it. Something uncontrolled. Something utterly monstrous.
Rias' heart pounded in her chest as the horrifying realization sank in.
"No… Oniichan!!!"
•
Elsewhere, amidst the ongoing war, Serafall Leviathan's younger sister and her allies struggled against the remnants of the Old Demon King's Army and the magicians that fought alongside them.
For a fleeting moment, they had been holding their ground. But that fragile stability shattered the moment they saw their greatest leaders fall to Black Flash's power.
The sight alone was enough to send fear rippling through the Biblical Faction's forces.
"Onee-sama!!!"
Saji gasped, his mind racing as he caught sight of Sona's stricken face. Without hesitation, he rushed to her side.
"President! What do we do now?! Should we help Serafall-sama?"
Sona closed her eyes for a brief moment, steadying herself. When she spoke, her voice was firm, yet laced with quiet frustration.
"No." She shook her head. "We'd be nothing but a burden to her."
Saji clenched his fists. "But—"
"Think, Saji." Her sharp gaze cut through his panic. "Do you honestly believe we can stand against that?"****"This isn't about pride—it's about reality. Right now, the best thing we can do is focus on our battlefield and make sure no one interferes with Serafall's fight."
She straightened her posture, determination hardening her features.
"And remember this." Her voice lowered, but it carried an unshakable conviction.
"I have absolute faith in my sister. She is the Demon Lord Serafall Leviathan—and she will emerge victorious in the end."
•
"Buchou! What are we gonna do?! Are we going to help your brother?" Issei's voice was urgent, his eyes darting between Rias and the battlefield.
Rias clenched her fists, her crimson aura flaring. "Obviously, Issei! We defeated the White Dragon Emperor before—now it's time for us to—"
Before she could finish, a sudden gravitational pull disrupted the air around them.
"White Dragon Vortex."
A powerful force twisted the energy around Valiana as she raised her palm, effortlessly sucking in Rias' Destruction Magic. The swirling mass of energy vanished into her grasp as if it had never existed.
"Did you really think… a simple magic attack could defeat me, brat? No magic can touch an Antimage like me." Valiana's cold smirk sent a chill down Rias' spine.
"W-What? She absorbed it?" Rias' face paled as her strongest magic had no effect. Her heartbeat pounded in her ears, her confidence crumbling.
Valiana's right fist began to glow, illuminating the battlefield with an ominous white light.
"Time to die."
"Stupid Albion! He's revealing abilities I've never seen before!" Ddraig's voice echoed in Issei's mind, tense with urgency. "Brace yourself, partner!"
Issei gritted his teeth. His body ached, his energy nearly depleted—but seeing Rias so defeated reignited something inside him.
"You're really strong, Valiana-san. But you made a mistake—targeting my friends." His Sacred Gear pulsed in his hand, responding to his will. He clenched his fists, standing firm despite the crushing pressure in the air. "Tonight, I'll show you the power of the Red Dragon Emperor!"
"Boosted Gear: Scale Mail!"
A fiery crimson glow engulfed Issei as his armor formed around him, his aura surging.
[Boost (6X)!]
Valiana barely flinched. "Show me, Hyoudou Issei."
She moved like a blur, closing the distance between them in an instant. Her glowing fist struck Issei's armor with shattering force, sending him staggering backward. Each punch was precise, carrying the weight of a thousand blows.
"Is this your limit? You talk big, but you're still weak." Valiana's relentless assault didn't let up.
"Ugh…! Boost!"
The Sacred Gear roared, his power multiplying. His aura flared brighter.
"Boost!"
His strength surged again, his energy expanding like an untamed wildfire. He clenched his fist, energy gathering into a condensed mass of destruction.
"Dragon Shot!"
A massive crimson blast erupted from Issei's palm, streaking toward Valiana like a meteor.
She remained unfazed.
"Divine Divide."
Her wings spread wide, absorbing the full force of Issei's attack like it was nothing. Without hesitation, she charged forward again, meeting Issei head-on.
Their fists clashed, sending shockwaves through the battlefield.
"Ugh… W-What's happening?!"
Issei felt it immediately—his power was fading. Each blow from Valiana drained him, not through absorption but through something far worse.
Valiana smirked. "You finally noticed?"
A cold dread settled in his stomach.
"This is my ability—Persecutor." Valiana's tone was casual, almost amused. "Instead of absorbing your power, I burn your mana away—each hit reducing your energy while dealing damage equal to the amount drained."
Issei's knees buckled. His strength was vanishing.
Valiana raised her fist for the final strike. "It's over, Hyoudou Issei."
"Noooo!!!"
Azazel shot forward, desperation in his voice. "Valiana, stop this madness!"
But she didn't listen. Her glowing fist swung down toward Issei—
—only to be intercepted by a streak of white.
"Rasengan!"
A whirling sphere of energy struck Valiana's side, forcing her backward. The impact didn't do much damage, but it was enough to halt her momentum.
Rias' eyes widened. "Koneko?!"
The petite white-haired girl landed gracefully in front of Issei, her eyes burning with determination.
Valiana tilted her head. "Hm? You're Kuroka's little sister, aren't you?" She dusted herself off, showing little concern. "I was kind enough to ignore you out of respect for my subordinates… but if this is how you repay me, then I suppose it's time for a lesson."
Koneko didn't flinch. "I won't let you hurt them any further, Valiana-san."
Issei coughed, struggling to his feet. "K-Koneko-chan? No… She's too strong. You should run instead of worrying about me!"
Valiana smirked. "Listen to him, brat. Do you really think you can stop me alone?"
But Koneko didn't answer. Instead, she closed her eyes, drawing in the surrounding energy.
In the depths of her subconscious, Koneko found herself before a massive, ethereal creature.
A towering blue feline stood before her, its body adorned with flaming tribal markings, its eyes gleaming with ancient wisdom.
"Are you ready, Koneko-chan?"
Koneko nodded. "Yes… Please guide me, Matatabi-sama."
The beast's tails flicked. "Remember our deal, little one."
Koneko smiled softly. "I never break a promise to friends."
"Good girl."
Koneko's eyes snapped open, revealing a distinct Sage Mode pupil pattern.
A shockwave of power erupted from her as her chakra merged with Matatabi's flames. Her small frame was now wreathed in blue fire, her aura infused with the pure, balanced force of Senjutsu.
Valiana's eyes widened. "Wahaha! A little kitten using Senjutsu? Now this… this is interesting."
Azazel stiffened. "S-Senjutsu?! When did she—? Rias, did you train her in this?!"
Rias shook her head, still processing the scene. "N-No! I heard Senjutsu is dangerous… why would I let her train in it? Koneko-chan, stop! I don't want you to get hurt!"
Koneko turned to her master with a small, reassuring smile. "Don't worry, Buchou. I can handle it."
Her chakra surged, transforming her into a hybrid form—half-human, half-Two-Tails—coated in flickering blue flames and natural energy.
She locked eyes with Valiana, her expression calm but resolute.
"Our fight has just begun, Valiana-san. Prepare yourself."
•
The city burned. Flames devoured the streets, reducing buildings to rubble and ash. The Chaos Brigade's assault had turned the once-peaceful city into a war zone. Screams filled the air, mingling with the roar of destruction.
In the midst of the chaos, Garou fought on.
His body was battered and bruised, his breath ragged, but his spirit remained unbroken. He had lost count of the enemies he had taken down, yet his battle was far from over.
Then he heard it.
A scream.
A voice he recognized.
"Emi... Lia."
His blood ran cold.
Whipping his head around, his monstrous eyes locked onto her.
Emilia—ensnared by a massive, grotesque tentacle beast.
Its slimy appendages wrapped around her, squeezing tightly. Her silver hair was matted with dirt, her violet eyes wide with fear and pain. Her small hands struggled, but against such overwhelming force, she was helpless.
A new emotion gripped Garou.
Not anger.
Fear.
Not for himself.
For her.
A deep, primal growl rumbled from his throat. His muscles tensed, and his transformation accelerated. His once-human skin darkened to black, his eyes burned red, and sharp spikes erupted from his back. He was on the verge of losing himself completely.
But he didn't care.
With inhuman speed, he ripped apart the tentacles coiling around him and launched himself forward. The air shattered around him as he slammed into the beast, his monstrous fist caving in its disgusting flesh. The impact sent tremors through the ground.
The beast shrieked, releasing Emilia as it staggered back.
She fell—only for Garou to catch her gently in one arm.
He could still feel the rage boiling inside him, demanding destruction. But before he could strike again, a soft, trembling touch stopped him.
Emilia clung to his leg, her small fingers gripping his monstrous form.
Tears streaked her dirt-stained face.
"Garou… please…"
Her voice was barely a whisper, but it pierced through the storm in his mind.
Garou froze.
His glowing red eyes flickered.
For a moment, the all-consuming rage recoiled.
His claws twitched, his instincts screaming at him to destroy everything. But Emilia's touch was an anchor, tethering him to something human.
He looked down at her.
His voice came out deeper, rougher, almost unrecognizable. "I won't let anything happen to you, Emilia." His fists clenched, his monstrous body pulsing with raw power. "But first, I have to kill this thing."
Then, with a feral roar, he unleashed the monster within.
His body mutated further—spikes lengthening, muscles bulging, his very presence radiating overwhelming power. His human features faded, replaced by a being of pure destruction.
And yet, his mind remained clear.
Not for vengeance.
Not for his ideals.
He was fighting to protect Emilia.
The one person who saw him as more than just a monster.
The people who had just been saved by Garou stared at him, their relief quickly twisting into horror.
"What is he…?"
"No way that's human!"
"Is he… one of them?"
Some murmured in awe. Others whispered in fear, their hands tightening around makeshift weapons. To them, Garou was not a hero.
He was an unstoppable force.
A monster.
The air was thick with hostility.
Garou felt it immediately. His instincts told him to crush them first. If they saw him as a monster, he might as well show them what real fear looked like.
But then—
A small, warm hand grasped his once more.
"Garou, don't!" Emilia's voice was urgent, desperate. "They don't understand! They think you're here to hurt them."
She turned to face the frightened civilians, stepping between them and Garou. "He's not a monster! He saved me! He saved all of you! Can't you see that?!"
Silence.
Then, a younger girl with golden hair and piercing blue eyes stepped forward.
Ravel Phoenix.
The heir of the Phoenix Clan.
She hesitated for only a moment before lifting her chin defiantly.
"She's right. He saved us." Her eyes scanned the fearful crowd before narrowing. "And you call him a monster? Ungrateful bastards! If he wanted you dead, you'd already be corpses!"
Emilia's breath hitched. "Ravel-chan… thank you."
Garou said nothing. He wasn't sure what he was anymore.
The Hero Hunter who sought to crush heroes?
Or something different?
Something… changed.
He exhaled sharply. "Believe what you want." His voice was rough, indifferent. "I'm not here to destroy anything. I'm here to protect her."
Emilia turned to him, eyes brimming with relief. "Thank you, Garou. I knew you were a good boy inside."
He scoffed. "Hn. Don't go getting soft on me, woman."
A wet, grotesque chuckle echoed through the air.
"You… How dare you defy me, heretic scum?"
Gilles de Rais, the mad summoner, sneered from within the towering abomination. Its corrupted flesh twisted and writhed, dozens of eyes blinking and shifting.
"You are merely a puppet of fate! A beast who should embrace his purpose!"
The monster lurched forward, its tentacles surging toward them.
Garou stepped forward, his monstrous form casting a massive shadow.
His claws flexed.
His eyes burned.
"You think I'm a puppet?" His voice was like thunder, rolling through the ruined city. "You think I have a purpose?"
He grinned—a wicked, predatory grin.
"I make my own damn fate. And I say... you're dead."
With that, the monster charged.
And so did Garou.
To be continued...
