When Stars Fall (Love in the Line of Fire)

Chapter 12: The Rescue

Scene 1: Behind Enemy Walls

Location: Insurgent Compound, Midnight

The air was thick with smoke and silence.Hana crouched behind broken crates, her scarf stained, her heartbeat louder than gunfire.

Beside her, Captain Meher whispered, "He's in the east wing. Guarded. Weak."

"How weak?" Hana asked.

"Bullet wound. Broken ribs. Tortured. But alive."

Hana's jaw clenched. She gripped the small medical kit strapped to her side.

"I'll get him. Cover me."

Meher nodded once.

Then, like thunder splitting the sky—Hana ran.

Scene 2: Between Breaths

Location: Inside the Compound

Zayan lay tied to a post, his head bowed, blood crusted to his lips.

He didn't look like the man who once walked like fire.He looked like a man who had given everything.

Until—

"Zayan!"

His eyes fluttered open. That voice—was it a dream?

"Hana…?" he croaked.

She dropped to her knees, slicing the rope with trembling hands.

"You came," he whispered.

She cupped his face, tears falling freely. "You idiot. You thought I wouldn't?"

He laughed—painful, broken. "I look terrible."

"You look like the man I fell in love with. Now shut up and let me save you."

Meher appeared behind them. "Time's up. We have to go!"

Hana threw his arm over her shoulder. "He's not dying here."

They moved. Bullet fire behind them. Dust choking the air. But they kept going.

Step by step.

Breath by breath.

Love by love.

Scene 3: The Stars Return

Location: Army Base, Three Weeks Later

Zayan lay in a hospital bed, eyes clearer now. Healing.

Hana sat beside him, sketching stars in his cast with a blue pen.

"I think you owe me something," she said.

"Oh?"

"A promise."

He grinned. "I already made one. Stars wouldn't fall without me."

She leaned closer. "They almost did."

"Then maybe it's time I stopped chasing wars…"

A pause.

"...and started chasing you."

Hana blinked, stunned. "What does that mean?"

Zayan pulled a ring from beneath his pillow.

It was bent. Burnt. Beautiful.

"I want to marry you, Dr. Hana Ali."

Her breath caught.

"Yes," she whispered. "Even if the stars fall again."

They kissed softly—no war, no uniforms, no fear.

Just hearts.

A banner read:"The Hana-Zayan Free Medical & Relief Center"

Zayan helped build beds. Hana taught girls how to deliver babies and dreams.
