*Chapter 7: The Final Night*
By the time Eliza and Sean reached the basement, the house was alive with the sound of crackling wood, the groaning of the walls as if they were bending under pressure. The entity's presence was suffocating, its weight pressing against them like a storm waiting to break.
"We have to perform the ritual," Sean said, his voice hoarse. "The ritual Aunt Rosemary wrote about in her diary. It's the only way to bind it back. We can't just run; it will follow us."
Eliza nodded, her stomach churning with dread. She had no choice but to trust Sean, to follow him into the darkness, even though every part of her screamed to turn and run.
They stood in front of the basement door, and Eliza felt the darkness beyond it pulling at her. The whispers were louder now, almost deafening. They sounded like a thousand voices, all crying out in agony.
"Are you ready?" Sean asked, his hand trembling as he reached for the door.
"No," Eliza whispered, her throat dry. "But we don't have a choice."
With a creak, the door swung open. The basement beyond was darker than before, the shadows stretching unnaturally long, swallowing the dim light from the single bulb overhead.
The thing—whatever it was—was there.
Its form writhed in the darkness, its shape shifting as if it were made of pure nightmare. It was massive now, its limbs twisting and expanding, reaching out like tendrils of darkness. And its eyes, if you could call them eyes, were countless—millions of them, all staring at Eliza and Sean.
And in that moment, Eliza understood. The house had been a prison, a cage to keep it from escaping. But now the cage was breaking.
"We have to do it now!" Sean shouted.
With trembling hands, they opened the diary, following the final instructions of the ritual. The air seemed to freeze as they chanted the words, their voices shaking as the entity screeched in agony.
The room exploded with energy, and for a moment, everything went black....
