whispers of a forgotten soul

Chapter 10: A PATH NOT TAKEN BY THE LIVING.

The direction were written in hurried , crooked handwriting. It was hard to tell what was it . "If only l had not allowed her to write and did it myself ", l said it to myself . The words were smudge at the edges like the words themselves didn't want to be read. Clushing the paper in my hand , l stood at the edge of the road where the last bus had dropped me off.

It was a Saturday morning when l prepared

Myself to start the journey of unveiling the truth. Liliana gave me a small note on which she wrote the direction to the shaman's place . She was a bit worried that l wanted to go alone. "Are you sure you want to go there alone " she asked, " people say once you find out that place... you change " . I knew for sure that what she said might be true somehow. I had to carry the mask inside my bag pack inoder to show it to the shaman.

It was beyond the cracked tarmac, the dirt path stretched into a thicket of crooked trees and whispering winds. It felt like stepping off the map , into a world the living weren't meant to enter. Still my feet moved in a driven force by the weight in my chest and the voice had been calling me ever since l put on that mask .

A crow lands nearby and stares at me . It was as if trying to capture me through its sharp eyes. I ignored it and continued walking as l had a mission to accomplish first. Finally I was there . It looked like an old abandoned house. It was so quiet and peaceful as if no one is living inside it. The gate cracked opened by itself. It felt as if it was waiting for my arrival. The house was small and it was made of wood and stones . It was surrounded with old charms and protective symbols to scare the ghost away .

I tried knocking on the door but l got no response then suddenly it opens itself slowly revealing the shaman waiting inside, as if she already knew that l was coming to her . She wore a white gown covered with red stripes on it . She was an old woman walking with a stick and to sum all that up , she was blind. All this l was told by Liliana so l figured out easily that she was the shaman .

"Aurora" , she said my name . I was stumbled upon hearing that . I had no memory of me mentioning my name to her that l can recall. I thought to myself. " You can came in" , she said again. I went ahead and followed her . She took me to a room that was covered with protective symbols scribbled on the wall . I knew for sure that the ghost wouldn't survive if they came in here . "Atleast l am safe ", l said to myself.

I started explaining to her on what was going on through out this past few weeks ever since l stepped foot inside that cave . I removed the mask inside my bag pack and offered it to her. I was shocked when she hurriedly refused to touch it and warned me " That thing you brought back... it belongs to the other side". I was so terrified upon hearing what she said .

Am going to help you to reduce your nightmare and cut ties all the communications so that you cannot hear the ghost whispering at you again. I sat at the middle of a circle with flames of fire circling me around, then she gave me some black and white powder with instructions: the black one should be on the left hand while the white one on the right side. She gave me words on a bone to chant as l throw out all the powder behind me .

Suddenly the fire went off, then it went on in a much higher speed. She grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the circle. Her face looked pale and worried then she turned to face me and said ;

" They have already marked you. Soon ..... even the living won't see you anymore. "
