Who hid My Corpse!

Chapter 500: 3 Chaser_2

Just one more step, and he could leave this place that filled him with dread.

"To be honest, I have nothing to repay you with, if you truly don't need this bottle of medicine." Vic said, "So I can only give you a piece of advice from a hunter, which is... never go out at night."

Saying that, Vic pushed open the church door and turned to leave.

Of course, he also heightened his vigilance to the maximum.

If he heard footsteps behind him, he would immediately dash into the night without looking back, nothing could stop him.

"Don't you want to find your little wolf?"

Bai Wei's light voice reached his ears.

One sentence, and Vic's previously tense body froze instantly in place.

He slowly turned back, seeing Bai Wei still standing beneath the statue of Senluo, with moonlight streaming through the door he just opened, landing perfectly on Bai Wei and the statue.

From Vic's perspective, it seemed as if Bai Wei was the earthly incarnation of the God of Senluo.

"What... are you talking about?" Vic said, "What little wolf? I don't know."

"Is that so?" Bai Wei laughed and said, "If you really don't know, let's drop it, maybe I remembered wrong, that little wolf called Ade."

Vic stared intently at Bai Wei.

"So, what now?" Bai Wei asked, "Are you still leaving?"

After a pause, Vic closed the door he just opened, in the re-darkened church, he slowly walked towards Bai Wei.

...

In a corner of the Boundary Land, [Hunter Lawen] watched as his subordinates returned one by one, but without seeing Vic's shadow, he understood something.

"Gentlemen, it seems the tracking skills you take such pride in are nothing much." Lawen said calmly, "You can't even capture a child who hasn't completed the ritual?"

Faced with Lawen's undisguised ridicule, the pursuers of Wildfire dared not express any anger, and could only try to explain: "The situation in Boundary Land is too complex, we caught his trail several times but ultimately failed to find him."

"Have you thought about the possibility that he didn't leave, but turned back?"

"Uh, that..." The pursuers looked at each other, "Isn't that impossible?"

"It's unfortunate, gentlemen." Lawen said, "That child toyed not just with your sense of smell, but also your brains."

As he spoke, he pulled out a whistle covered in blood.

"When I came out to find you, I positioned men along the route that child took. An hour ago, I heard the whistle, indicating the child went back. And you all are still wandering around here like dogs drawn in by crap."

Lawen's words became more and more excessive, yet those present dared not voice their anger, merely bowing their heads in silent acceptance.

Only one person asked questioningly, "But I don't understand, why would he go back?"

"It's quite obvious." Lawen put away the whistle and said blandly, "Rather than revealing the church's biggest secret, which we've always worried about, he's more concerned with finding that stray dog."

Hearing Lawen say this, the pursuers finally broke into laughter.

"At least the thing we feared most didn't happen." One pursuer said, "Since your men have already captured him..."

"No, I never said my men captured him." Lawen interrupted the pursuer, "In fact, not long after hearing the whistle, I lost contact with my subordinates."

The pursuers looked at each other.

"Did he perhaps kill your men?" someone said, "But it doesn't make sense, he didn't even complete the ritual, how could he have that power?"

"Are you asking me?" Lawen looked at the questioning pursuer, "If I recall correctly, it was you who was put in charge of the child, not me, right?"

The pursuer immediately bowed his head: "Apologies, Master Lawen, I overstepped."

"You did overstep, and I hope you understand, the boss values that child highly." Lawen said, "You'd better not keep the boss waiting too long, or you'll know the consequences."

Everyone involuntarily shuddered.

"Also, although the child hasn't completed the ritual, his aptitude is too outstanding." Lawen said calmly, "So if you don't want to lose your lives, you'd better be more serious."

Everyone immediately bowed and said in unison: "Thank you for the reminder, Master Lawen."

"Alright, you can leave now." Lawen said, "Boundary Land is not our territory, don't be too ostentatious."

The crowd dispersed.

Just while retreating, they suddenly thought of a question.

Since Lawen wasn't here to help capture Vic, why did he come to Boundary Land?

Everyone felt puzzled, but didn't dare ask directly, so they quickly left.

In the end, only two pursuers were left beside Lawen.

Lawen looked at one of them: "So, confirmed?"

"Confirmed, Master Lawen." One of the pursuers replied, "Rhein has indeed taken action, their vanguard has even entered Boundary Land, but their exact purpose is still unclear."

Lawen narrowed his eyes slightly.

The Rhein Church, their archrival, in name at least, are supposed to be polar opposites.

But in reality, there hadn't been any major friction between the two sides for over a decade.

After all, everyone knew Rhein's issues.

Though possessing unmatched divine chosen knights, due to their number, they haven't been able to expand further, and could only watch Wildfire near their borders grow stronger.

But now, they suddenly sent people into Boundary Land, with their targets set on them.

What's the reason for this?

Lawen came personally to figure this out.

"When was the last time we had contact with Rhein?" Lawen asked.

"About half a year ago."

"Half a year ago?" Lawen recalled, then frowned slightly, "[Biter Roger]?"

"Yes." The pursuer nodded, "Half a year ago, after we learned of the emergence of Visas's Corpse Blocks, the boss had [Biter Roger] enter Rhein's territory, but he vanished overnight, and afterwards that village was completely sealed by the Rhein Knights, we had no more opportunities."

"I see." Lawen muttered to himself, "Rhein, Visas's Corpse... could they be after the Corpse Blocks again?"

He had just had this thought, but quickly dismissed it.

"No, no reason, even if Rhein craved the Corpse Blocks, they wouldn't make a big move on Corpse Blocks with an owner, and especially not on our territory."

He slowly closed his eyes.

"Not just Rhein, Lyra and Holy Sound have been having successive incidents... Holy Sound is still pursuing the last Seven-Tone Player, who also ended up here, could there be a connection?"

Lawen felt he was close to finding the crux of the problem, just a little bit more.

But just that little bit, the lack of information still prevented him from making a more accurate judgment.

However, he at least knew what he should do.

"We have to keep them out." Lawen instructed his subordinates, "The boss is at a crucial moment, we absolutely can't allow any incidents at this time, understand?"

The two pursuers immediately bowed: "Understood."

"You must understand."

Lawen turned his head, gazing at the Boundary Land in the night, then said softly.

"This is the critical moment."

"As long as the boss becomes the master."

"Then we will no longer have to live in the night."
