Why won't you love me My Demon King

Chapter 4: Part 1: New Land

As we walked out of the palace, I stopped in front of King Leo and asked, "What was the deal between you and my father?"

King Leo opened a shadowy gate, pausing for a moment to think. Finally, he spoke, his voice steady yet carrying a weight of history.

"The deal was for you to become my wife and my queen in the Pradal Cosmic Realm, where I rule." His eyes met mine, dark and inscrutable.

"Come, let's get out of this kingdom. I promise you, I will treat you better than your family," he said with a warm smile, taking my hand as if to guide me through the unknown gate.

I wanted to protest, but my feet moved on their own, as if they longed to follow him wherever he might go.

The cold air of the night wrapped around us, and for a moment, I felt a strange sense of freedom, as if stepping into a world beyond the one I knew.

Every step I took away from the life I had known made me feel lighter, yet more uncertain. Still, his presence was comforting, and I couldn't help but trust him.

As I took a step forward onto the other side of the gate, I could hear music playing and laughter all around me.

The air was filled with a sense of joy and excitement, as if the very ground beneath my feet hummed with life. King Leo smiled warmly and said, "Welcome to your new home." His voice carried a tone of genuine warmth, and I could feel the weight of his words sink in.

He then took my hand, pulling me close to embrace him, and whispered in my ear, "Let's have fun before I take you to the castle. I want to introduce you to my people first because I heard in your old home that you were loved by the people, and I want that here as well."

I blushed at his words and replied, "Thank you, but I'd rather earn your people's trust on my own, where I can be of help."

He smiled softly, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear. "I admire your courage," he said. "But remember, you don't have to do it alone. I'll be with you every step of the way."

His words brought a sense of comfort, but a part of me still felt the weight of the challenge ahead. "I know," I murmured, "but sometimes, the best way to prove myself is through my actions."

He nodded, understanding. "Then we'll start tomorrow morning, and you'll see. Your actions will speak louder than words ever could. But until then, my love, relax and have fun. Let go of everything in that pretty head of yours and enjoy tonight. Tomorrow is a new day, my dear."

I felt a warmth spread through me at his words, the tension in my shoulders easing for the first time since we had arrived.

"I'll try," I whispered, my heart beating a little faster. "But only because you asked." He laughed softly, his eyes sparkling with a playful glint. "That's all I needed to hear."

With a gentle tug, he led me toward the soft glow of the afternoon festivities, the sound of laughter and music filling the air.

I glanced up at him, feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves, but more than anything, I felt a sense of possibility.

Tonight, I thought, might just be the beginning of something incredible.

As we were walking around, I noticed various stalls where people were selling fish, clothing, jewelry, pearls, gemstones, fruits and vegetables, herbs, and even cattle. The market was bustling with activity, and the air was filled with a mix of scents from fresh produce and spices.

I was particularly interested in the clothes and jewelry, so I headed straight to a shop selling clothes.

The first thing I saw was the merchant arguing with a civilian over money. Their voices were raised, and it seemed like a tense situation.

I hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to wait or move on, but curiosity got the best of me.

As I stepped closer, I could see that the stall was trying to explain something, while the civilian appeared frustrated, gesturing toward the price tags.

I wondered if it was a misunderstanding or something more serious.

The civilian was saying while holding the fabric in her hand, "How can you show us this type of cloth and think you should sell it for 200 gold pieces?"

The cloth had a lovely pattern on it, featuring butterflies and sunflowers. Despite its charming design, the fabric seemed cheaply made, its threads loosely woven.

The merchant, unfazed by her criticism, smiled smugly, confident in his inflated price. The civilian looked at the cloth again, shaking her head in disbelief, and muttered, "You must be joking."

She looked around, hoping to see a more reasonable option, but the market was crowded with overpriced goods.

As she turned to leave, she heard the merchant call after her, "Fine, I'll offer you a discount—only 180 gold pieces!" She couldn't help but laugh, knowing she wouldn't waste a single coin on such poor-quality fabric.

She then looked at Leo and me and said, "If I were you, I wouldn't want to buy a single piece of clothing here because of its poor quality and high prices."

She left the stall, and I looked around, hoping to find something nice.

That's when Leo handed me a fabric with roses and butterflies; the fabric was black with gold-colored designs, and the trim was also gold.

It felt soft to the touch, and the intricate patterns seemed to shimmer under the light. I couldn't help but admire it for a moment.

"This is beautiful," I said, running my fingers along the smooth surface.

Leo smiled, clearly pleased with my reaction. "I thought it might be something you'd like," he replied, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

I felt a sense of hope returning as I wondered if this fabric could be turned into something truly special.
