Chapter 3: Crybaby
"Lucas, I appreciate that you're waiting for me," said Ashly as she continues to approach him.
"Yeah, it's no problem Ashly," replied Lucas "No big deal, after all you're my friend" Lucas smiles as Ashly is next to him. "Hey Ashly, I have something to say to you"
"Sure what is it?" Ashly asks, "Don't tell me it's about you not being able to arrive home" Lucas shakes his head "Well good because I have no place I can stay at"
"Ashly I have a dream" Lucas takes a deep breath and continues "I want to buy a plot of land."
"Land? Why" said Ashly, "don't you know how expensive it is?" Ashly has never thought Lucas would say such a thing
"It's not about the land Ashly, it's about what's inside the land that I want" Lucas pulls out a piece of paper "This is an eviction notice Ashly, me and my parents where forced to leave our farm"
Ashly grabs the paper "Well, not paying your bills does result in this" Ashly gives Lucas the paper back "So you just want to buy the farm back because it's special to you isn't"
"Well that's part of it, what I really want is my parents photo" Ashly looks at Lucas more confused "I didn't tell you this but my parents abandoned me"
"That's harsh" Ashly replies "To think that someone like you had to face such trouble…" Ashly can't think of anything to say other than "it's depressing"
"Listen, I hope by having my parents photo I might be able to start searching for them. I miss my parents even though they left me, I know it's because we were poor" Lucas begins to tear up "If I can buy the land back then maybe…" Lucas voice has softened and became a whisper "then maybe they will want me back"
Ashly pats Lucas back" Listen I'm not the type that's fit for supporting" Ashly says, "I don't try nor want to be connected to someone, not to an emotional level"
"Ashly I'm sorry if it looks like I'm pouring all of this on you" Lucas tries to talk normally but he starts crying "I hated being abandoned but what I fear the most is that they didn't just abandon me because of financial issues" Lucas then sits on the snow
"Geez what a crybaby" Ashly just stands there watching Lucas cry, and cry. The sun has now set and Ashly pats Luca's head
"Thanks for staying out here with me, even if you didn't say much" Lucas stands up "It means a lot to me that I have someone that I can seek out" Lucas hugs Ashly "You really are my friend"
Ashly doesn't hug Lucas back, instead she just looks at him with pity "Yeah… don't mention it" Ashly watches as Lucas begins to leave "Oh uhh … be safe and don't hurt yourself" Ashly tries to reassure Lucas
"I know this is out of nowhere, but what's your dream Ashly?" Lucas says now in a more calm voice"
"Well I…" Ashly doesn't know what to say as Lucas has suddenly asked her that question "I guess you can say my dream would be to have food" Ashly pauses "Corn, I would like to eat fresh corn"
"Fresh corn?" Lucas says "If I ever get to own my parents farm, then we can grow fresh corn for you" Lucas says
"Yeah but that's if you have enough money and find your parents" as soon as she says that she regrets it "I mean it's a long journey and I, I believe in you"
"Yeah I promise I'll get that farm and find them" Lucas says in a more happier tone. Ashly watches as a smile pops on his face slowly "Ashly, thanks for your support I know I'm repeating myself, but it truly means a lot to me"
"Yeah no problem but you better get back home, it's dark and I'm tired" Ashly and Lucas say their goodnight and both part ways. Lucas begins his journey back home while Ashly finds an alley way and lies down"
"Darn weather it's cold" Ashly begins to shiver "Lucas why did you have to call me your friend" Ashly says in an angry tone "You should never accept such a disgusting person to be your friend. Not me. Not any garbage being"
The snow begins to pour heavier and the wind gets faster. Ashly stands up and walks back to the abandoned building, knocking at the door
The door opens and the mysterious man asks "What do you want Ashly, don't you know how late it is?" He then sees that she is shivering "Ah, no place I see. Come inside but it will cost you" The mysterious man opens the door and lets her inside
"Thanks" Ashly enters the building "I will pay you tomorrow, I promise I will"
"I know you will, you always pay up everytime" The mysterious man locks the door "Listen I never expected anyone to visit so sleep on the floor, I'll go get you a pillow or something"
"Don't bother this is enough for me" Ashly says "I'm more than happy to sleep on the hard floor, than to be outside " Ashly lies down on the floor
"Alright Ashly, remember you have to leave Tomorrow befor the sun rises" The mysterious continues "If you don't wake up on your own. I'll wake you up with cold water, and of course you will have to pay for it" the mysterious man chuckles
"Understood, I wouldn't want to pay for a cold alarm clock anytime soon" Ashly says as she hear the man close the door turning the lights off
"Fresh corn" Ashly whispers and then scoffs "That no dream" she exclaims "I don't even like corn. It's the cheapest thing I can buy, and my stomach doesn't give a dam about dreams as long as its feed"
"Eating corn, beans, rice, or any type of food shouldn't be a dream" Ashly then calms down a bit "But darn, it would be sweet to be able to eat any of those except for stupid corn"
Ashly's stomach starts growling "I just want to eat food that's all" Ashly keeps on whispering "I want to have to eat food and never have to put myself in danger for it. That's no dream at all, I just want to survive, and surviving is natural."
Ashly can't sleep at all, all she can think of is Lucas crying, and her blatantly not caring as much as she should of "Why me, why am I the person he seeks out to" Ashly closes her eyes trying to sleep
"I'm hungry and cold" Ashly repeats "Hungry and cold" Ashly keeps on repeating those words until she falls a sleep
