Chapter 14: Here comes the hunters!
"Now that Mr. D have made his speach, it's time for us to continue towards the next main topic of today's announcement!" - Chiron continued soon after Mr. D was done.
"In order to supervise the remodeling of the cabins, Lady Artemis will be coming to Camp Half-Blood with her Hunters! So we should be prepared to welcome them!" - This elicited cries of joy among the young man and boys listening, and I can't really blame them, as those girls should really be beautiful.
One thing of note since coming to this world, is that, while ugly people do exist, there are way more beautiful people than there should, but the uper threshold seem to have increased drastically. Maybe because this used to be a fictionary world, and so, people imagined others to be more beautiful than they really should.
I'm not complaining, as I should be quite handsome even in this world's standards. Same goes for Thalia, she should be among the top most beautiful as well. Lucky me!
But I am also excited on the prospects of meeting the Hunters. If they were only beautiful, I would not mind them much. Sure, I would appreciate the eye candy, but that would be pretty much it. But there was something more.
Zöe Nightshade, Artemis' second in command, amongst those who has been with her the longgest. From what I remember, she has all the qualities I admire in a woman. Really, just thinking about what her myth is all about, makes me want to really beat the shit out of Heracles. Maybe I should pay him a visit in the ancient lands...
He should have become a minor deity right? That would make for a really good sandbag! It could even help on stress relief! Oh, right! I was talking about Zöe... damn ADHD!
If I ever get a chance, I would like to get her for myself. I'll be damned if I let all that bullshit from the third book The Titan's Curse happen in real life! I ain't missing on 2 waifus over that stupid prophecy! Uncle Rick seem to have a problem with happy endings.
According to Chiron, they would arrive in mid december, so, in about 2 weeks, as we were in the last few days of november. I also would like to learn some archery from them if there was the chance.
I am currently learning a thing or two from those from the Apollo Cabin, and they are pretty good. But it's like the difference between ornamental archery and archery created to fight in a war. The children from Apollo don't have much practical experience, other than some scouting to get any occasional monsters that tries to sneak their way into the camp. I should probably try and create some sort of barrier, just like the old Thalia Tree.
Should be manageable if I use a ton of absorption type runes to keep it up and running. As for what are absorption type runes? They are words like syphoning and absorb, that have the same effect as each other. Unfortunately, I can't seem to be able to stack their effects on top of each other... what a shame. Well, it is what it is...
Another thing, is that my control over mana have greatly increased after I got reclaimed. It went from 61 threads all the way to 73 of them. It's an increase of around five-fold.
I have also started exploring ways to increase my mana quality, and maybe even form a core, but there has been not much progress until now. I did try some methods often used in novels and whatsoever from my past life, and it did show some results, like, trying to concentrate all of my mana onto a single point, and making it spin, trying to spend mana to improve my internal organs like I did with life force, and some other stuff.
It all went well until around the halfway point, where I started to feel like I was missing something. So I have decided to put these things on hold for now.
Now back to the announcement, Chiron talked about a couple more things, like how we should be receptive, and how everyone, the boys in particular, should respect them. And like, I totally get it. Most, if not all the hunters, aren't really receptive at all towards males. Let's just hope nothing goes wrong about that.
Not long after, he wrapped it all up and said we were free to go. And so, people started dispersing, as I also left with Thalia and Annabeth.
"Hey, Thalia?" - I called out to her - "Do you have the time to visit the kitchens with me?"
"The kitchens? Where is that? I've never been there." - She asked with curiosity - "Let's go! I'm free!" - She started urging me to show her the kitchens.
Annabeth seemed reluctant to go - "Do you not want to go?" - I asked her.
"I do! I do!" - She said hastily - "But I still haven't made my homework..." - She seemed a bit saddened by that, but nothing I could do about that, as Chiron was a really strict teacher. Thalia also seemed to grumble at that.
"Really... I can't believe you managed to get dismissed..." - She started nagging me, after remembering the huge pile of homework she had to make.
"Perks of being the son of the goddess of memory, I guess." - Yeah, that's right! Chiron just decided to let me go, after I memorized every single book he had.
"But you shouldn't be one to talk, Pikachu..." - I chastised her, as she is the daughter of the god king, so she sure wasn't one to talk.
"Ugh..." - She seemed affected by what I said - "But what even is a pikachu?!"
"Figures..." - I said, shrugging my shoulders, as I could not help but pity the inhabitants of a world without the Pokémon series. Pitiable indeed...
Annabeth soon left us to our own devices, and we both went towards the kichens. Arriving there, I greeted some of the magical creatures that composed the staff, as I frequently came to play around. As to why? I noticed that if I use my magic to do things, I get more proficient more quickly than if I were to just fool around making random things with it.
Like, it was better to control objects like a frying pan, some spoons and tonsils to cook, than if I were to just spend it creating many threads randomly. But I still use the number of threads to quantify my progress. I even developed some handy spells to help clean things up later, earning the gratitude of the hardworking staff members.
"What would you like to eat as a snack, so I can cook it, my lady?" - I asked, acting like one of those exagerated movie gentleman.
"Oh? So the wolf wants to act like a gentleman now? Do you even know how to cook?" - Tsk! She was doubting my capabilities! I will show her - "Very well, let's see what you can do... surprise me!" - She said, teasing me.
"You, mere mortal, dare to tease me the great me!? Let me show you how it's done!" - I joked, as I started moving many kitchen utensils and gadgets around using my magic power.
Opened some bottles of milk, mixed with eggs I had just cracked, poured in some sugar, cinnamon, and some other special products that I will keep a secret as they are too powerfull for a mortal to use! (A/N: It's just vanilla extract and butter, but don't tell him I told you this! umu) Added some flour, and gave it some kneading, and voilá! The dough was ready.
I just watched as Thalia seemed flabbergasted at my display, while the staff seemed to appreciate the show, giving some nods along the way, as I had been receiving some pointers from them to improve myself.
I then used some wind spells I had greated, to pour air into the dough, with no need for fermenting, this was kinda unnecessary, and even a little wasteful in terms of magic power, as the fermentation gave the dough some nice touches, but it was great for magic practice, so I did it anyways.
I then proceeded to bake it in the air using some fire spells I had specially designed for this purpose, and added a sugar glaze I had made on the side on top, with some coloured sprinkles on top.
Thalia just stood there, mouth hung open, as she did not even seem to have noticed the passage of time, staring speechlessly at the finished snack floating in front of her eyes.
I then picked up some plates, putting the snacks on top, as I had already started cleaning everything up, receiving some applauses from the staff after it was all done. I bowed as if I was done with my show, earning some giggles from some nymphs who were around.
"Quite good, right?" - I flashed a smile at Thalia, who seemed to wake up from her sturpor.
Taking a bite she said with a smile - "I guess it's not too bad, book head!"
