Chapter 97: The Blessing of the Wizard World
Richard awoke from a long slumber, feeling invigorated and full of energy.
He hadn't slept in a long time.
Since becoming a Great Wizard, his energy had become nearly inexhaustible. Even researching tirelessly through the night for a month or two would only leave him slightly fatigued.
A short rest would be enough to recover.
"Is the infusion of the Power of World Origin complete?"
Richard moved his body, yet felt no change whatsoever. He also assessed his spiritual power and found no change at all.
This baffling phenomenon left Richard somewhat at a loss.
The room where he was was the same room where a Wizard Apprentice waits to be promoted to Wizard, and he was there to receive the infusion of the Power of World Origin to become the chosen Guardian of the Wizard World.
After facilitating diplomatic relations between the Gods Civilization and the Wizard Civilization, and discovering the Beast Origin World which was reported to significantly impact the war, Richard's war merits had reached an astonishing number.
If he wished, he could even exchange these merits for a medium-sized world at the Truth Council—of course, this world would be distributed after the war.
Meanwhile, his achievements and abilities had caught the attention of the Wizard World Will.
Richard had once received a Wizard Hero Medal in the Galaxy World, and wizards with this medal are observed by the Wizard World.
If they demonstrated enough capability, the Wizard World would infuse them with Origin Power, making them extraneous World Guardians.
These extraneous World Guardians are freer than ordinary ones. They are not required to stay within the Wizard World all the time and can leave whenever they wish without any repercussions.
Undoubtedly, Richard's abilities had been acknowledged by the Wizard World, but the question remained, why didn't he feel any enhancement?
Perplexed, Richard teleported out of the chamber.
In the desolate hall, a Black Robed Wizard stood quietly at a corner of the hall.
This hall was an internal hall specifically for the service of World Guardians; it was only bustling with wizards during recruitment by the Judicial Department.
Suddenly, a figure slowly emerged from the void.
The Black Robed Wizard saw the suddenly appearing figure and a small smile appeared under the hood.
"Richard, you finally came out. Your infusion time was longer than others'."
Richard looked towards the Black Robed Wizard, a hint of surprise on his face.
"Jimmy, oh no, I should call you Thunderous Fury Great Wizard now. Master Thunderous Fury, what are you doing here?"
Jimmy spread his arms, smiling: "Of course, to welcome you. You hurried to the Tower of Truth the moment you returned, and as an old colleague, I didn't even host a welcome ceremony."
"Hahaha, what welcome ceremony? I don't care about those things."
Richard and Jimmy embraced, as a cherished supporter of the Physique Crown before its attainment of Truth, Jimmy too rose with it when Physique Crown attained Truth.
His soul injuries were fully healed by the Physique Crown, and recently he became a Great Wizard, titled Thunderous Fury.
After the pleasantries, Richard's smile faded as he got down to business.
"Did the Dean send you to give me some task?"
With matters in the Four-Eyed People World concluded, Richard's power had risen to Five Rings Wizard. Using the pretense of training to exclude Richard from the battle sequence, even if Physique Crown wanted it, Richard wouldn't be able to do so.
This would attract too much criticism.
Physique Crown had just ascended to Truth, and while it's understandable to want to protect allies, it couldn't go too far.
The Truth Council isn't his sole domain.
Jimmy nodded slightly and replied, "There is indeed a task, but it isn't urgent."
As he spoke, he took a Crystal Ball from his pocket. With a slight injection of magic power, the Crystal Ball projected an extremely intricate three-dimensional starry sky.
The stars within the three-dimensional sky were connected with lines, seemingly representing certain pathways. At one end of the starry sky, a cluster of red stars appeared to swallow the rest of the star map like a giant mouth.
Jimmy pointed to a spot on the star map that had connections with many stars:
"This is World 4512, your ultimate destination. But before that, the Dean intends to find a fringe battlefield for you to familiarize yourself with the battlefield and those bugs."
Richard looked at the star map thoughtfully and nodded.
"Are these lines the teleportation gate system?"
"Correct."
"Then my responsibility is quite significant."
Although most worlds do not exist as isolated worlds with only one route, among the thousands of worlds controlled by the wizards, there are still quite a few isolated worlds with only one teleportation gate route.
The Hub World is the lifeline of these worlds.
If the Hub World is lost, these worlds become sitting ducks, with no means of resisting.
Even with the fastest star realm transport, years are the measurement unit required. However, a world without teleportation gates to supply weapons and reinforcements couldn't hold out under the Galaxy Mayfly for such a long time.
"Those who can, do more," Jimmy patted Richard on the shoulder, smiling.
"Guarding such a world will earn significant war merits. If you complete the council's task, getting a small world after the war would definitely not be a problem."
Richard waved his hand, acknowledging the high rewards of guarding a world, but also the considerable difficulty. It would be fortunate enough to minimize the losses for the Wizard Civilization, completely defending it was nearly impossible…
Richard suddenly had a stirring in his heart, a bold idea suddenly leapt into his brain, jumping around like a monkey.
He thought to himself, "Speaking of which, matters concerning the Subhuman Wizards should be almost settled by now."
Jimmy was unaware of Richard's thoughts, and seeing him suddenly fall silent, he only assumed Richard was contemplating future matters, so he didn't continue speaking.
A moment later, Richard looked at Jimmy, "Why aren't we leaving? Is there any work left to do?"
"Of course not. It's just that I saw you were thinking."
After leaving the hall, Jimmy intended to take Richard to a ranch world within the Physique Crown for a feast of roasted dragon to welcome him, but Richard declined, citing the need to prepare for war.
It was an irrefutable reason, leaving Jimmy no choice but to regretfully bid farewell to Richard.
After parting ways with Jimmy, Richard began to find the World Guardian through the staff at the Tower of Truth.
He needed to understand where his Power of World Origin had gone.
...
"Please follow me this way."
A wizard in a silver robe cautiously guided Richard.
After an hour of inquiry, Richard finally found a wizard from the Judicial Department who could guide him to the nearest World Guardian.
Landing with the wizard, Richard found himself in a forest.
In these times of war, such a vast forest was rare. For the sake of war, the Wizard World was filled with Alchemy Factories and civilian areas, preserving forests either as reserves designated by the council or due to someone's significant energy, allowing them to gain favor even with the Planning Department under the Truth Council.
From Richard's current impression, the latter seemed more likely.
A black Wizard Tower stood prominently within the forest.
The architectural style of this Wizard Tower was quite old-fashioned, its slender and towering proportion, accompanied by intricate Gothic carvings, indicated it belonged to an old Wizard.
Even in Richard's era, the wide-style Wizard Towers had become mainstream. Only Wizards with an old-fashioned aesthetic like Richard would choose to construct such towering Wizard Towers.
"Master, this is the Wizard Tower of the Forest Guardian Master."
The guiding wizard from the Judicial Department respectfully performed a Wizard's Salute to Richard before hurriedly flying away, as if something dreadful resided within the tower.
Richard walked into the Wizard Tower, and suddenly, the surrounding trees began to move.
Their branches spread out rapidly, blocking Richard's path.
"Halt."
Richard glanced at the blocking trees, no longer restraining his Life Radiation as a Five Rings Great Wizard. In the next moment, those obstructing branches quickly withdrew, and an elderly voice emerged from the Wizard Tower.
"A Five Rings Wizard coming to find me, the old fool? Young one, what do you seek?"
Richard responded calmly, "I have heard that Master is a strong presence among the World Guardians, so I've come to inquire about some issues."
"What issues?"
The voice seemed intrigued. As a World Guardian, they usually sought other Great Wizards for help to enrich their own abilities. It was rare for a Great Wizard to approach them for assistance.
"Recently, I accepted an infusion of Origin Power, but upon awakening, I found no change in my strength."
"No change?" The voice sounded puzzled. After a moment of silence, it said, "Come into the tower, this old man has difficulty moving around."
Difficulty moving?
Richard furrowed his brows slightly and strode towards the Wizard Tower.
The tower's door was already unlocked. Upon pushing it open, Richard saw within the hall of the Wizard Tower, an elderly figure seemingly woven from roots leisurely flipping through a Magic Book.
"My body, old as it is, is connected to this forest, moving is truly a hassle."
The old man placed down the Magic Book and looked up at Richard.
"Great Wizard, state your name. I am the Forest Guardian of the Wizard World."
"Richard."
"Hmm?" The Forest Guardian's face showed some surprise, "Using your real name as a title, you have great courage."
For Great Wizards, using a title was a tradition tracing back to the Enlightenment era, originally meant to avoid curses from the Curse School through a Wizard's true name.
Those Great Wizards daring enough to use their real names were invariably confident individuals.
They were confident curses were useless against them.
"Master is mistaken; I simply haven't chosen a title yet," Richard replied calmly, then shifted the conversation, "Master should first examine what's happening with this infusion of Origin Power of mine."
The Forest Guardian nodded.
"Indeed, I will now observe you, you should control your instinctive reactions."
Richard nodded, then the Forest Guardian emitted a thoroughly friendly aura. In an instant, a sensation akin to being observed by ten thousand eyes from all angles without any blind spots gripped Richard tightly.
"No wonder he mentioned controlling instinctive reactions," Richard thought inwardly.
Suddenly, the feeling of being scrutinized vanished, and the Forest Guardian wore an expression of inexpressible astonishment on his face.
"The blessing of the Wizard World? How is this possible!?"
