Wizard Lord:I can Extract Anything

Chapter 116: Chapter 116: War (Part 3)

Facing the golden-patterned insect before him, Richard couldn't understand its words, but he remained highly vigilant. This insect had a high physical resistance and possessed a unique skill. The golden blade light it wielded was leagues apart from the attacks of ordinary insects.

After its threat, the Mother Insect Guard vanished, launching a golden slash at Richard's neck.

This time, Richard was ready. He swung his greatsword in a strange arc, perfectly intercepting the golden blade light.

Clang!

The Devourer Sword collided with the golden-patterned blade arm, causing small nicks to appear on the sword's edge.

Richard smirked coldly as the black flames of the Devourer Sword crept along the blade arm.

The final core spell of the Devourer Sword, Erosion Fire, burned the lifeforce within flesh, making it particularly effective against robust, flesh-based creatures.

The Mother Insect Guard's arms flared, the golden light quickly extinguishing the black flames.

Although the black flames of the Devourer Sword had a mana-burning effect, the energy within this insect differed from wizard mana, and the golden light swiftly doused the flames.

Still, the black flames alarmed the Mother Insect Guard. It thought, "Fortunately, I'm facing this flame. If it were another insect, they'd be reduced to ash by now."

Before it could ponder further, Richard's spell was already on its way.

A pitch-black fireball, devoid of any momentum, flew at it, yet the Mother Insect Guard sensed the terror of death from the fireball.

With no time to think, the Mother Insect Guard's wings spread, its speed skyrocketed, narrowly dodging the Heart of Annihilation's range.

Other insects weren't so lucky.

The black fireball expanded, devouring half of a warrior insect's body. The intense heat at the spell's edge instantly carbonized the wound, filling the air with an unusual charred scent.

"It actually dodged."

Richard's expression was tense. The speed of this golden-patterned insect, after spreading its wings, reached a terrifying level, even surpassing Richard's reaction time.

While Richard's mental power could pinpoint its location, the insect moved before Richard's brain could react. His magic barrier was repeatedly breached, each slash from the Mother Insect Guard reaching an astonishing 500 energy levels.

"Ulysses, restrain it for me!"

"Caw, restrain it?" Ulysses spat a ball of Annihilation Fire, incinerating a warrior insect trying to launch a sneak attack.

On the battlefield, Richard focused entirely on the Mother Insect Guard, relying on Ulysses and the alchemical golem to fend off other attacking insects.

"You can't even do that?"

Richard swung his greatsword to deflect the slashes piercing his magic barrier. The Devourer Sword's edge was becoming serrated under the intense combat.

"Caw, who says I can't! Just watch!"

Ulysses screeched, its flames gathering at its mouth. With a glance, it locked onto the Mother Insect Guard, spitting a chain of black fire that instantly bound the insect.

To a world lord's perception, the Mother Insect Guard's speed was like a fast snail.

"Perfect opportunity!"

Richard's eyes sharpened, mana surging within him. In a flash, he fired two Hearts of Annihilation.

With its evasion hampered by the fiery chain, the Mother Insect Guard was caught, half its body dissolved by the Heart of Annihilation.

It screeched in agony, life extinguishing moments later.

Richard sighed in relief.

This insect was far more fearsome than ordinary warrior insects.

"Ulysses, bring me that half of the body," Richard ordered casually.

One of the perks of planar warfare was obtaining specimen rewards, allowing wizards to collect firsthand biological samples.

"Caw, what do you take me for? A courier?"

Ulysses grumbled, but flew down like a black lightning bolt, retrieving the Mother Insect Guard's half-corpse, taking a bite for good measure.

"Caw, tastes good."

As soon as he held the body, Richard sensed the Miracle Furnace stir.

[Material: Golden-patterned Black Crystal Insect Corpse]

[Extraction Cost: 2000 Mana]

[Extractable Substance: Adamantine]

[Extraction Cost: 10,000 Mana]

"Adamantine!" Richard was shocked. No wonder this insect could easily breach his magic barrier. Adamantine possessed high magical resistance, making it an excellent material for both armor and melee weapons.

However, what intrigued Richard most wasn't the adamantine.

"What makes this insect so unique?" Richard wondered. It was his first time encountering a corpse from which he could extract a technique. "Why can't the Miracle Furnace extract techniques from human corpses, but can from this insect?"

Unfortunately, the battlefield left him no time to explore this mystery.

The Black Crystal Insectoids' strategic weapons inflicted significant losses on the white wizard army with each shot, hampering their ability to clear the insects. The slave army's depletion accelerated with the appearance of golden-patterned insects. If the strategic weapons weren't destroyed swiftly, the white wizards might manage, but the black wizards would certainly suffer dire consequences.

Extracting the Burst Slash technique, Richard instantly mastered it.

Sadly, this technique required the golden-patterned insect's muscle structure and unique internal energy, rendering it temporarily unusable by Richard.

Pressing on towards the strategic weapon, Richard soon joined forces with several black wizards.

"Richard! Did you encounter those golden-patterned insects?" Ellie inquired.

After hours of combat, Ellie's flames had dimmed, and her body bore numerous wounds. As she spoke, she replenished her mana with a few magic stones.

"You encountered them too?"

Richard glanced at the surrounding black wizards, all first-circle wizards. Facing golden-patterned insects likely cost them dearly.

"You encountered them?" A black wizard exclaimed in surprise.

This black wizard followed the physical path, his towering frame marred by deep, bone-revealing cuts.

Earlier, the black wizards had barely managed to kill a Mother Insect Guard together, leaving the shield-wielder nearly skinned alive.

Yet Richard, with just a golem, seemed unscathed after facing a Mother Insect Guard.

Richard said nothing, pulling the half-corpse of the insect from his magic pouch.

"Here's the body."

Shock spread across the black wizards' faces. They had witnessed the golden-patterned insects' incredible speed and mysterious anti-magic slashes. For such a formidable foe to be soloed by Richard was unbelievable.

Yet the evidence was undeniable. After their initial shock, the black wizards chose to follow Richard.

Black wizards respected strength. Though Richard was not a second-circle wizard, his feat of defeating a Mother Insect Guard alone earned their allegiance.

Five hundred meters ahead, a Mother God Cannon fired projectiles.

Amidst its guards, Richard spotted two Mother Insect Guards.

"Ulysses, you're on bug duty," Richard whispered.

If Ulysses could restrain them, Richard could annihilate them with the Heart of Annihilation.

"Caw, sure, just little bugs. Save me a piece, they taste good."

Richard twitched at the thought of the oozing insects...

Tastes good?

Birds and humans truly had different mindsets.

"You guys handle the grunts. I'll deal with the two golden-patterned insects. Just keep yourselves safe," Richard instructed after briefing Ulysses.

A second-circle wizard would make this task easier, but fate didn't grant him that luxury.

No matter how formidable the golden-patterned insects were, they remained first-tier creatures. To a second-tier creature with a base physique of a hundred, these insects were merely fast snails.

However, Richard overlooked the fact that Black Crystal Insectoids also had second and third-tier entities.

A second-circle wizard's approach would inevitably draw second-tier insect defenders. Their smooth progress was thanks to second and third-circle wizards drawing the bugs' attention elsewhere.

Those higher-tier wizards were the true focus of the insect horde's countermeasures.

"You'll handle it? This isn't the time for boasting," a wizard frowned.

This wizard's mana was abundant, nearly at the first-circle wizard's limit, just shy of the ceremony to become a second-circle wizard.

"You'll see if it's boasting soon enough."

Richard replied coldly, turning to command the alchemical golem.

"500 meters ahead, fire Annihilation Rounds."

The golem responded, extending a cannon from its back.

"Affirmative."

With a whoosh, an Annihilation Round landed beside the Mother God Cannon, brilliant white light engulfing several warrior insects.

"What's happening! Why are we under attack!" a frantic priest insect cried.

Before an answer came, another Annihilation Round landed.

Boom!

This time, the round struck the Mother God Cannon directly.

Blinding white light erupted, blasting a crater in the cannon, the molten metal perforating it like a sieve.

The Mother God Cannon's flesh writhed, attempting to mend the wound, but the third and fourth Annihilation Rounds were already incoming.

With another deafening explosion, the Annihilation Rounds left the Mother God Cannon half-destroyed, on the brink of losing vitality.

A decisive priest insect tossed two warrior insects into the cannon, channeling his unique star power as a priest. The black crystal on his forehead shot beams of white light, forming a net in the air to intercept the remaining Annihilation Rounds.

Intercepting them, the priest insect's antennae flicked, sending a mental wave rippling outward, instantly capturing Richard and his group's actions.

Seeing his Mother God Cannon's assailants, the priest insect was incensed:

"Mother Insect Guards! Kill those intruders!"
