Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Don’t Move, It’s Broken, Call for Help!
"Call..."
While the wooden clone was busy holding off the enemies surrounding them, Smith took several deep breaths, trying to recover his strength. Sage Mode was still absorbing natural energy, supplementing his waning spiritual energy.
Then, in the very next moment—
"Yan Yue, this way!"
Smith spotted a weak point in the encirclement and immediately darted in that direction with Yan Yue close behind.
All of the remaining wood clones instantly understood his intention and threw themselves toward the enemies, sacrificing themselves to block pursuit and create an escape path for Smith and Yan Yue.
They managed to break through the encirclement just in time.
But the bald man who had been watching from a distance finally decided to make his move.
He raised his hand with a casual gesture. A small fireball ignited in his palm, and from it, over a dozen tiny flame lasers shot forward, piercing through the air like fiery arrows.
"Wood Style: Tree Wall!"
"Sacred Water Shield!"
Smith and Yan Yue acted in sync, each summoning their respective elemental shields to intercept the attack. Even so, they couldn't block all of it. Several of the flame lasers pierced through the gaps in their defense, striking the yellow sand around them and erupting into a thick cloud of dust and smoke.
"You're not getting away," the bald man sneered, his voice calm and mocking.
He remained cautious, never stepping close. Instead, he relied on long-range attacks, continuously launching volleys of flame lasers at the pair.
He still hadn't figured out how Qingfeng and Mingyue died earlier. And so, he kept his distance—better safe than sorry.
"This guy's way too cautious," Smith muttered with a frown.
The lack of distance made it impossible for him to activate his Sharingan-based illusions. And in a long-range battle, he and Yan Yue were completely outmatched. They couldn't compete with a third-level psychic like this.
"You're pretty good at dodging," the bald man said, his tone growing irritated. "Let's see how you handle this."
He swiftly formed three unusual hand seals.
A blazing fireball, two meters wide, condensed above his head, then roared through the air toward Smith and Yan Yue like a guided missile.
Smith's heart sank.
They couldn't stop this one.
"Run!"
The two took off in different directions, hoping to escape the path of destruction. But the fireball locked onto them and continued its pursuit like it had a will of its own.
Just as they were about to be overtaken, a figure flashed in from the front, stepping directly into the path of the fireball.
That person raised a fist and struck the fireball with incredible force.
Boom!
The fireball exploded into countless embers, instantly extinguished by the punch.
"Teacher?!"
It was Yun Ming!
Joy lit up Yan Yue's face the moment she recognized him.
"It's not your turn to bully our academy's students," Yun Ming said with a calm smile.
He adjusted his glasses as he faced the bald man. His demeanor was gentle, composed, and strangely unshakable.
The bald man narrowed his eyes. "You're from Huaihai College?"
"Exactly," Yun Ming replied, nodding slightly.
The bald man grinned, his expression twisting into something far more sinister. "A third-level psychic... That's not bad. If I kill you here, Huaihai College will lose one of its elites."
Suddenly, his body surged with power.
His feet slammed into the ground, and his muscles began to swell dramatically. His entire body grew in size, tearing his clothes as black fur erupted across his skin.
Beast Transformation Type: Bear!
"Roar!"
With an animalistic howl, the bald man charged toward Yun Ming. Each of his steps created deep craters in the sand beneath him.
"Beast transformation? Hm, not bad," Yun Ming muttered as he calmly rolled up his sleeves.
Roar!
The bald man hurled a powerful punch.
Yun Ming's eyes flashed, and he met the punch head-on with his own.
Bang!
Crack!
A sharp sound echoed—bones breaking.
The bald man's arm twisted unnaturally, the bone piercing through the skin, blood gushing out in torrents.
"Aaaaahhh!!"
He let out a gut-wrenching scream and staggered backward. Finally, his massive, bear-like body crumpled, forcing him to his knees in agony.
Smith stood frozen in disbelief.
Yun Ming, who looked gentle and scholarly—who always appeared thin and weak—had just shattered the arm of a third-level beast-type mutant in a single blow.
Who was the real beast here?
Did Yun Ming have monster-level muscles hiding under that clean suit of his?
"Boss!!"
The remaining Fire-Burning Clan members, finally done with the last of the wood clones, rushed to the bald man's side.
One of them bent down to lift the injured arm.
"AAAAHHH! DON'T TOUCH IT!"
The bald man wailed again.
"Don't move, it's broken! Call for help!" another shouted in panic.
One of the younger members quickly threw a fire spark down into a sewer entrance.
Yan Yue glanced at Yun Ming and asked, "Teacher, shouldn't we leave now?"
Yun Ming shook his head with a calm smile. "We finally found their base. Why would we leave now? Let's see how many more they can call."
A few minutes later, the sewers began to echo with movement.
Figures emerged one after another—ten in total. Each one emitted the powerful aura of a third-level psychic.
This is bad.
"Baldy! What happened?!" shouted a man with a crew cut and angry eyes.
The bald man groaned, unable to speak clearly, and weakly pointed toward Yun Ming and the students standing behind him.
"You dare to cause trouble in the Burning Fire Clan's territory?" the man with the crew cut snarled.
Yun Ming chuckled and said, "So your clan's territory is in the sewers? That explains why it was so hard to find."
The sarcasm wasn't lost on the man.
"How dare you mock us?! Kill them all!"
"Only two first-level advanced and one third-level intermediate? This'll be easy!" one of the newcomers sneered.
The members of the Burning Fire Clan advanced with grins on their faces, confident in their numbers and strength.
But Yun Ming calmly twisted his neck and suddenly punched the sand beneath his feet.
BOOM!
A cloud of yellow sand exploded into the air, blanketing the entire battlefield and clouding everyone's vision.
The next moment, sharp flashes of steel and a bone-chilling aura swept through the sandstorm.
Screams echoed—dozens of them. Blood sprayed in all directions, dyeing the yellow sand beneath them a deep crimson.
The terrifying scene lasted only half a minute.
Then, the sand slowly settled.
All the enemies had fallen.
Over a dozen third-level psychics, and just as many second-level warriors—completely annihilated.
Smith was speechless.
Total annihilation?
Yun Ming had faced down a small army... and single-handedly wiped them all out?
Even a fourth-level psychic wouldn't be able to accomplish this!
"Teacher, you're incredible…" Yan Yue said, still stunned.
There weren't enough words to describe what they had just witnessed.
"Impressive, isn't it?" Yun Ming said, smiling warmly.
"Of course... I didn't kill them."
Just as he spoke, several figures appeared out of the shadows.
Lan Feng!
Alongside him were four members of the Executive Department—the elite group from Huaihai College who had taken a different path at the start of the mission.
They had been lurking in the shadows all along, waiting for the perfect moment.
It was they who had actually struck the final blow.
Although the members of the Burning Fire Clan were strong, the Executive Department was something else entirely.
They were also third-level psychics—but their power and combat ability were on a whole different level.
This was the sharp edge of Huaihai College.
This was the terrifying power of the Executive Department.
