Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Happy Birthday
> [Amaterasu: S-rank ability. Each use consumes at least 500 spiritual energy. The larger the range, the greater the energy consumption.]
[Note: Without evolving to Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, each ocular technique can only be used five times. The sixth use will result in eternal blindness.]
[Sealless Healing: A passive healing ability that requires no hand seals. Injuries are automatically healed, but the more severe the injury, the greater the energy cost. No upper limit on spiritual energy consumption.]
After purchasing Amaterasu and Sealless Healing, Smith's energy points dropped like water through a sieve.
Only 450 points remained.
Luckily, that was just enough to afford one more ability—the Wood Release: Cutting Technique. Without hesitation, Smith bought it.
"Well, now I'm completely broke."
Staring at the meager 50 energy points left in his system, Smith let out a long sigh.
Even as a rich second-generation, he still wasn't rich enough.
If he had the resources, he'd have just emptied the entire system store in one go.
Still, Smith was quite satisfied with his acquisitions. He checked his system panel with a sense of accomplishment.

Good. This birthday had been well worth it.
Before he realized it, the sky outside had already begun to dim. Dusk settled in quietly. Smith stretched and got out of bed, thinking about checking whether Jiang Lei had returned home.
Just then, there was a soft knock at the door.
"Knock knock knock…"
"Uncle Chen? Someone's knocking," Smith called out.
But there was no response.
Their housekeeper, Uncle Chen, was nowhere to be found.
"That's strange… Where did he go?"
Left with no other choice, Smith walked over to open the door himself.
The evening breeze had grown cooler, brushing lightly against his face as he pulled the door open with a soft "squeak."
Standing outside was a petite girl with delicate features. Her gentle smile warmed the air like a spring breeze, and she carried with her a faint floral fragrance that wafted in with the wind.
Dressed in an elegant white dress that revealed her smooth, snow-white shoulders, Yan Yue stood there with a graceful poise. Her bright eyes and tidy ponytail gave her a vibrant and charming aura.
"Happy birthday, Smith!"
She smiled sweetly and handed him a bouquet of flowers.
"Thank you... But how did you know today's my birthday?"
Smith was genuinely surprised.
He didn't recall mentioning his birthday to Yan Yue at all.
Yan Yue giggled. "Uncle Jiang told us."
"Us?"
Before he could respond further, two more familiar faces popped out from behind her—Zhao Mei and Wei Lin.
"Ding ding ding! Smith, happy birthday!" they shouted in unison, both also offering flowers.
"You didn't tell us it was your birthday! We didn't have time to prepare a proper gift," Zhao Mei pouted playfully. "So we just brought flowers. Hope you don't mind!"
Smith chuckled. "You're being too polite. Your presence is already the best gift. Don't just stand there—come in, come in!"
He quickly ushered the three girls inside.
"Whoa, your house is huge!" Zhao Mei gasped in awe, taking in the spacious living room and its elegant decorations.
"This? It's all my dad's. Come on, have a seat. I'll get you all some water."
Smith poured glasses for each of them, smiling warmly.
"You came at just the right time. Stay for dinner—I'll cook something."
"You can cook too, Brother Smith? That's awesome!" Yan Yue said with admiration.
"Of course!" he said with a grin.
Though Jiang Lei usually did the cooking, Smith had picked up a few tricks over the years and could handle a few dishes himself.
Just then, the door opened again, and Jiang Lei stepped inside, raising an eyebrow at the number of guests before breaking into a wide smile.
"Oh? Everyone's here already?"
"Hello, Uncle Jiang!" the girls stood up and greeted him in unison, looking respectful and proper like students in front of a stern teacher.
After all, Jiang Lei wasn't just Smith's father—he was one of the three fifth-level psychics in Huaihai City, the guardian of the region, and a top officer in the Executive Department. His reputation carried weight.
"Alright, alright, no need to be so formal. Make yourselves at home," Jiang Lei said, laughing heartily.
He glanced at Smith and gestured toward the kitchen. "You go entertain your classmates. I'll handle dinner."
"Thanks, Dad. You're the best!" Smith said shamelessly as he darted out of the kitchen and rejoined the others.
---
Soon enough, the rich aroma of cooked food began to drift from the kitchen.
"Dinner's ready!" Jiang Lei called out.
The group quickly gathered around the dining table, eyes lighting up at the feast before them.
"This looks amazing!" Yan Yue exclaimed.
"I told you my dad can cook," Smith grinned. "His skills are top-notch."
Jiang Lei pulled out several bottles of Chipsi-Cola, a rare and expensive treat in their world where resources were scarce and luxuries like soda were nearly impossible to obtain.
"Come on, let's toast to the birthday boy."
He cracked open the drinks, and everyone raised their glasses.
"Happy birthday!"
The mood grew light and cheerful. Laughter echoed through the house as they chatted and enjoyed the delicious meal.
At first, the conversation stayed on light topics—school, hobbies, favorite combat techniques—but midway through dinner, Jiang Lei's tone shifted slightly.
"You've all been going out on missions lately," he began. "How's it going? Feeling adjusted yet?"
The table fell into an awkward silence.
It felt like a parent interrupting game night to ask about test scores.
"It's… alright," Smith answered first, trying to ease the tension. "But yeah, some parts are dangerous."
"You'll need to get used to that," Jiang Lei said seriously. "This isn't going to change—whether it's for the next few decades or centuries. Missions, threats, demonic beasts… that's the reality now."
"Right now, you're still freshmen. You have your teachers and the Executive Department looking after you. But eventually, you'll be on your own."
"There'll come a time when you'll be out there without backup. When that happens, you must know how to protect yourselves."
His words struck a chord. Yan Yue, Zhao Mei, and Wei Lin nodded silently. The cheerful atmosphere turned solemn.
"Dad, enough already. We're eating," Smith said, frowning. "This isn't the time for a lecture."
"Oh, my bad. I got carried away again," Jiang Lei said with a sheepish smile.
"But let me just add one last thing," he continued. "There's something I want to ask all of you."
He looked around the table, his tone serious again.
"Are any of you interested in joining the Executive Department?"
