Chapter 56: 056 The Uchiha's Innocence
Carrying this nervous mood, Yugao arrived at the designated dinner location, a barbecue restaurant in the village center.
Right at the entrance, she ran into Kakashi, Might Guy, Asuma, Hayate Gekko, and also Kurenai Yuhi and Night Star, who had just arrived as well.
"Yugao, you're finally here."
Dressed in his green tight suit, Might Guy rubbed his stomach and sighed.
"I've been training all day today and haven't eaten a thing. I'm starving; let's head in quickly."
As Might Guy finished speaking, he noticed that the others remained silent, offering no response.
Among everyone present, he was the only one oblivious enough not to sense the awkward and delicate atmosphere in the air.
Yugao Uzuki stepped in front of Kurenai Yuhi, casting a complicated glance at Night Star beside her. She softly asked Kurenai,
"Did you come here with Night Star?"
"Yes, I went to the Uchiha compound to notify him, so we came together on the way."
"Then why didn't you let me accompany you?"
Kurenai's expression stiffened momentarily before she replied gently,
"You're a direct member of the Hokage's Anbu. You're always so busy; how could I trouble you with something like that?"
Hearing this, Yugao didn't know what to say.
She could clearly discern the underlying meaning in Kurenai's words.
She was a direct Anbu member under the Third Hokage.
And earlier that day, on the streets, Night Star had exposed the bloody conflict between the village's leadership and the Uchiha clan for all to see.
This meant that, from a standpoint, she, Yugao Uzuki, was Night Star is enemy.
Yugao now understood that the Third Hokage's intention to pair her with Night Star was merely a tactic to win over this young prodigy.
But regardless of Night Star is perspective, she herself had no desire to become a pawn in the political games of the village leadership.
"Let's go inside."
Kurenai noticed Yugao is expression but said nothing, merely gesturing toward the shop.
Everyone except Might Guy could sense the strange awkwardness between the two former friends.
"Woo-hoo! Finally, barbecue time!"
Might Guy's sudden exclamation broke the tension, causing everyone to laugh.
Kakashi rolled his eyes and commented helplessly,
"Guy, you act like you've never had a meal before."
"I can't help it. You know how exhausting taijutsu training is! I even thought about joining the Anbu like you, but Lord Hokage said I wasn't suitable."
Hearing Might Guy talk about joining the Anbu, everyone instinctively imagined how he'd look in an Anbu uniform.
Kakashi patted his shoulder and said earnestly,
"Lord Hokage was right. Just let it go."
Amid the laughter, they began heading into the barbecue restaurant.
At that moment, the shop owner suddenly came out, frowning as he looked at the Uchiha crest on Night Star is back. His expression turned hostile as he said,
"Sorry, but this shop doesn't serve you. Please go somewhere else to eat."
"What did you say?"
Might Guy stepped forward angrily,
"You're running a business, and yet you're refusing customers? What kind of nonsense is that?"
The shop owner snorted coldly, his tone impatient as he said,
"Uchiha people should just eat within their own compound. Why come here to cause trouble?"
"You"
Might Guy wanted to say more, but Night Star patted his shoulder.
"Guy, there's no need to argue."
As he spoke, everyone noticed Night Star is eyes, adorned with the three tomoe of the Sharingan.
With just a brief exchange of glances, the shop owner seemed to change entirely, respectfully leading them inside.
Seeing this astonishing scene, everyone except Kakashi was dumbfounded.
This was the Uchiha clan's Sharingan?
A single glance could ensnare someone in a genjutsu.
Such a terrifying power no wonder it made others wary.
Once seated, Might Guy ordered twenty plates of barbecue in one go. He then turned to Night Star, complaining boldly,
"That shop owner was unbelievable, saying such things just because of your background. It's absolutely"
"It's perfectly reasonable."
Before Might Guy could finish, Night Star interrupted indifferently.
"Have you ever thought about what kind of image we Uchiha have in the eyes of ordinary people like him?"
"This..."
"The answer is obvious."
Night Star spoke calmly,
"Our clansmen rarely go to the battlefield or leave the village on missions. In their eyes, the Uchiha, who occupy the positions in the police force, are nothing but parasites living off the village."
"Especially after the Nine-Tails incident. With the village struggling financially and unable to repair its facilities, he has to watch members of the police force swaggering around the streets and earning generous rewards."
"And on that night, many people in the village lost their lives. Their intense hatred has been funneled toward us Uchiha as their outlet for resentment."
Hearing this, Asuma's gaze showed surprise.
For someone like Night Star, a member of the Uchiha clan, to analyze so objectively the reasons for the resentment against his clan was truly unexpected.
"Hmph, the Nine-Tails' rampage was your Uchiha clan's fault in the first place!"
Hearing Asuma's accusation, Yugao Uzuki frowned and explained,
"Asuma, it was already stated in today's council meeting that the Nine-Tails' rampage wasn't caused by the Uchiha clan but by someone else entirely."
"What?"
Asuma was stunned.
All this time, he had blamed the Uchiha clan for his mother's death.
And now they were saying this had nothing to do with them at all?
Did this mean he had been wrongfully blaming them all along?
