Chapter 59: 059: Orochimaru's Curiosity
The Yugao beside him heard this and helplessly shook her head, saying:
"You keep saying things like this. Should I call it confidence, or arrogance?"
Night Star frowned slightly and asked in return:
"Have I said that before?"
Looking at his expression, Yugao suddenly recalled that he indeed had said this, but it was in his diary.
She had no reasonable explanation for how she had learned of it.
A strong sense of crisis surged in Yugao is heart, even causing the chakra within her body to flow chaotically.
"Could this be... the punishment for erasure?"
Just as Yugao felt despair creeping in, Kurenai Yuhi stepped forward and stood in front of her, smiling at Night Star.
"Have you forgotten? Back in school, you said something similar."
"Did I?"
Night Star wasn't someone whose soul had transmigrated into this world; he was a true transmigrant, born in this world.
For him, school days were nearly a decade ago. How could he possibly remember everything?
"I see."
Night Star didn't dwell on the issue and simply waved to Kurenai Yuhi and Yugao.
"In that case, I'll head back first."
"Wait a moment."
The two women spoke in unison, and Kurenai Yuhi was the first to respond.
"I have a bottle of wine at home. My father is out on a mission, and I can't finish it alone. Would you like to help me?"
Yugao Uzuki couldn't find a suitable excuse in time but was unwilling to let Kurenai Yuhi take the lead. She stammered:
"Um… um… my cat can do a backflip. Would you like to see it?"
Kurenai Yuhi glanced at her, pouting her lips in retort:
"A cat doing a backflip? What's so special about that? Kakashi's ninja dog can even talk."
This was, after all, the ninja world. Summoned beasts with intelligence performing tricks wasn't anything novel.
Yugao puffed up her cheeks, glaring angrily at Kurenai Yuhi.
"You picked up Night Star today, so it's only fair the rest of the time is mine!"
"Who says so?"
"Of course, it's fair competition!"
Watching the two argue endlessly, Night Star rolled his eyes and said helplessly:
"Are you misunderstanding something? I don't want to go anywhere. I just want to get home and rest."
With that, he ignored whatever Kurenai Yuhi and Yugao were about to say and turned to leave.
Meanwhile, at home, Tsunade sat alone, drinking.
[Ding! Today's record has ended.]
[Based on your screen time, you have received a special reward.]
[Reward: Hemophobia cured.]
Hearing the system prompt in her mind, Tsunade was slightly stunned.
Then, a sharp blue chakra appeared on the index finger of her left hand. She lightly cut her right arm.
Bright red blood slowly dripped from her fair arm onto the floor.
"It's really gone?"
Seeing the blood, Tsunade felt no fear, nor did her body show any unusual reaction.
This proved that, thanks to the system's reward, she no longer suffered from hemophobia.
"This really is..."
For a moment, Tsunade didn't know how to evaluate the situation.
But overall, she thought it was a good thing.
Night Star had just returned to Konoha today and had already had an intense confrontation with Elder Danzo Shimura.
It was foreseeable that while investigating Nawaki's sacrifice, he might face targeting from the village leadership or even assassination attempts by the ANBU or Root.
If it really came down to such life-and-death moments, Tsunade knew her hemophobia would make her useless. Not dragging him down would be lucky enough.
Only by being her full self could she support Night Star in his upcoming plans.
"Sigh..."
Tsunade sighed softly, lazily leaning against her bed, her two long, fair legs casually propped up without concern for her image.
Looking at the bright moon outside the window, she murmured:
"Grandfather, Second Grandfather, what kind of choice would you make?"
...
Before long, a month had passed.
During this time, several major events occurred in Konoha.
Elder Danzo Shimura was detained by the police force for nearly half a month. He was released only after the Uchiha clan moved back to their original territory, personally escorted by the Third Hokage.
The village leadership issued a statement:
The Nine-Tails incident had nothing to do with the Uchiha clan; the true culprit was someone else.
At the same time, due to reduced pressure from the Mist and Cloud fronts, the village leadership decided to withdraw some troops to strengthen internal defense.
Among these was the frontline commander, Orochimaru.
As the head of Konoha's Research Department, Orochimaru's value was never supposed to lie in combat. He had only been sent to the frontlines because of a lack of suitable candidates during the crisis.
Upon returning to the village, Orochimaru's first action was to arrange a meeting with Night Star in the research lab.
"You've finally come."
Seeing Night Star push open the door, Orochimaru licked his lips with his long tongue, wearing an amused expression while holding a transparent glass jar.
"This is what you wanted."
"Is this all?"
"You think it's not enough? The amount in this jar is sufficient for nearly a hundred transplants."
Placing the jar on the table, Orochimaru curiously scrutinized Night Star and asked in his hoarse voice:
"Since you're so eager for this, I assume you've cracked its secrets and are confident about successful transplants?"
"Yes."
"I'm curious."
Seeing Orochimaru's inquisitive expression, Night Star smiled.
"If you want to know, it'll cost extra."
"What price?"
"Let me think..."
After a moment of thoughtful silence, Night Star chuckled softly and said:
"Kill Hanzō of the Salamander from the Hidden Rain Village for me, and hand over the scroll of Edo Tensei."
Hearing these two severe conditions, Orochimaru wasn't angry. Instead, his interest grew even more.
"You only charged a bottle of First Hokage cells for knowledge that helped me develop the ultimate forbidden jutsu. With a price this high, I expect this will be worth it?"
"Naturally."
Night Star nodded slightly, his smile fading.
"The secrets of the First Hokage's cells pertain to the essence of chakra. Furthermore, if you agree to kill Hanzō, not only will you erase past humiliations, but you'll also gain an unexpected reward."
"And what would that be?"
Night Star stared directly into Orochimaru's golden, slit-like pupils and said, word by word:
"The Sage of Six Paths' eyes. Don't you want to see them?"
