Xiaobai Is Also Troubled Today

chapter 20 - Yellow Hair

Someone decided not to sleep in. He chose to go to school early; otherwise, he might not "finish" his homework.

Not writing it himself didn't mean the homework wouldn't get done, but there was less room to maneuver if he came late.

There was a reason he went to school so early. On the one hand, the school still provided lunch on weekends. For students living on campus, there were more opportunities to eat than they wanted. But it was different for him, a day student.

He had just finished breakfast and didn't want to cook again and wash the dishes again.

Before noon, Bai Tingzhi packed his things, put on his schoolbag, and walked to school.

There were few people at the school gates. Most students still liked to wait until the last minute to arrive. It was self-study in the afternoon anyway, so it was harmless to come later.

But Bai Tingzhi, who had other needs, was different. He had to find someone whose homework he could copy to remedy his own impending academic crisis.

This candidate had actually been chosen a long time ago, and she always came to school early.

"Sister Gu'an, can I borrow your homework to copy?"

Bai Tingzhi's sincere eyes made Xia Gu'an a little speechless, but she found it difficult to refuse.

She looked at Bai Tingzhi, and then at the empty seat behind him.

"Just tell me what you need."

"Everything!"

"..."

Xia Gu'an turned around, completely speechless, and started digging through her schoolbag.

"Where's Lin Yunian? Didn't he come with you?"

"Lao Lin isn't back yet. I don't know when he'll be back," Bai Tingzhi answered without thinking. He just wanted to copy the homework quickly.

There were more than three hours before the official 3 p.m. return time. It seemed long, but it could pass in the blink of an eye.

"Well, I'll give you the English one first. I'll give you the others after I sort them out."

Xia Gu'an's arms were slender as she held out the roll of worksheets to Bai Tingzhi.

He happily took the worksheets, ignored everything else, and went back to his seat to start "studying."

Time passed by little by little. Without the lights on, the classroom was a little dark in the afternoon. The sunlight didn't reach into the courtyard.

The curtains were half-closed, the windows were half-open, and a breeze blew quietly through the classroom.

Bai Tingzhi was concentrating on copying, not paying attention to his surroundings, only seeing the homework for different subjects that Xia Gu'an occasionally sent over.

"Hmm—"

After stretching, Bai Tingzhi leaned down and checked his phone under the table.

It was almost one o'clock.

To be honest, he only had two hours left. They could be asked to hand in their homework at any time after three o'clock.

However, copying homework was a small matter and went quickly. Except for Chinese, which required mandatory copying, the only trouble with the other subjects was correcting with a red pen, so it wasn't very urgent.

"Xiaobai."

"Hmm?" Bai Tingzhi raised his head and saw Xia Gu'an sitting in the seat in front of him, turned towards him.

Xia Gu'an rested her head on her hands, staring at him.

Xiaobai: ? Do you need something?

"Have you finished copying the homework?"

Bai Tingzhi turned his attention back and twirled his pen. "Still copying."

Xia Gu'an puffed up her cheeks and didn't continue to disturb him.

But her eyes kept exploring Xiaobai's face, from Bai Tingzhi's long and curled eyelashes down, around the fair and delicate face, and into his galaxy-like pupils.

How does Xiaobai maintain his skin! It feels better than some girls'. Fortunately, my skin isn't bad, otherwise I'd be jealous to death.

After he finished copying, Bai Tingzhi raised his head and saw Xia Gu'an's creepy, obsessive gaze. ⊛ Nоvеlιght ⊛ (Read the full story) He trembled all over and shot up from his seat.

Xia Gu'an came back to her senses and realized her own improper behavior. She embarrassedly turned her head away and coughed twice.

"Here."

Someone bit his lower lip with his canine teeth and returned the homework. He looked so indifferent that for a moment, you couldn't tell who had copied from whom.

"Xiaobai."

"What is it now?"

What's wrong with the class monitor today? She doesn't seem normal either...

Why did I think "either"?

"You don't have any plans for the rest of the day, do you?"

"Well... no, I was planning on sleeping."

"Don't sleep yet. Help me with something." Xia Gu'an seemed to have gathered up her courage.

"I won't do anything that violates morality!" Bai Tingzhi instantly perked up and kept a subtle distance.

Xiaobai: No way! I won't do it! Anything illegal or criminal is absolutely out of the question!

But Xia Gu'an didn't explain, and her cheeks turned slightly red.

Bai Tingzhi grew more and more uneasy, until she slowly spoke after a moment.

"Help me fold some paper."

"Origami?" He followed her and walked to her seat.

Pieces of colored paper and small, long plastic sticky notes were taken out and placed on the table.

"Do you know how to make paper cranes and lucky stars?"

"Who are they for?" Bai Tingzhi asked, a slight smile playing on his lips.

"Never mind that. Just tell me if you can do it or not."

"Of course I can!"

"Then take these back and work on them slowly. It'll be bad if people see them later," Xia Gu'an handed him several different colored sheets. "Just make as many as you can today."

"You can't tell me?"

Bai Tingzhi still really wanted to know who Xia Gu'an was going to give these to. It can't be for Lin Yunian's birthday, right? Never mind, it's not like the whole world revolves around him.

I don't know which boy or girl will receive Xia Gu'an's gift. The class monitor is good at studying and she's pretty, so they're really lucky.

Paper cranes and lucky stars, no matter how you look at it, don't seem like gifts for ordinary friends. It's easier to just buy something than to fold all of this. Besides, even if you give it to them, they might not like it. The relationship must be complicated.

Bai Tingzhi was pleased with his perfect reasoning and began to work skillfully.

The sunlight outside the window shifted back and forth. The shadow of the osmanthus tree stepped into the classroom, and the afterglow of the sunset fell on every corner of the campus.

The classroom grew noisy.

The fluorescent lights were turned on at some point, and Xia Gu'an had already written all the homework on the blackboard. It was called "weekend homework," but the teachers were experienced and knew that some of it wouldn't be done at home.

To be exact, most of the homework.

The self-study period on Sunday afternoon and evening was basically used to catch up.

If it weren't for completing the homework, he could have just come tomorrow morning.

Bai Tingzhi looked at his results in the desk organizer and was very satisfied.

"...I've already finished my part. You can go get it after class in the evening," Bai Tingzhi said, moving closer to Xia Gu'an's seat.

Xia Gu'an made an "OK" gesture and carefully tugged on Bai Tingzhi's short-sleeved shirt.

"What's up?"

When Bai Tingzhi asked, Xia Gu'an just shook her head and smiled lightly.

"Xiaobai, Xiaobai, Xiaobai!"

At the back door of the classroom, a student leaned over, calling his nickname urgently in a hoarse voice.

He nodded to Xia Gu'an and walked to the back. Standing outside the door was a handsome man with yellowish hair, wearing a dark windbreaker, who was taller than him.

The man raised his hand and said hello, "Xiaobai."

Seeing that Bai Tingzhi didn't speak for a moment, the boy joked, "Have you already forgotten me?"

"Pei, Xiuming... Lao Pei, why are you here?"

The boy in front of him, who seemed to have dyed his hair, always had a gentle smile on his face, and he could quickly get close to anyone.
