Yellowstone: Wind in the Smoke

Chapter 86: Explosion

"Come on, Jack, hold on!" said Susie as she carried her brother, who could barely stand.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

"They're catching up to us!"

Steven turned and fired without hesitation. "Take them all down! We must keep this area clear until our lord arrives!"

Boom!

Susie carried her brother, determined not to lose him. But in a situation like this, it seemed likely they would all die at the hands of the Order—all because of her brother's stubbornness in refusing to retreat when he had the chance.

As they pressed forward, more armored soldiers emerged from the darkness, shooting at them.

"The vehicles are ahead. They'll take your brother to a place where he can recover. If we get there in time, everything should be fine, but you need to understand—anything can happen in a situation like this."

Susie watched as her brother was loaded into a truck. Knowing he would at least leave this place alive, she said, "Give me a weapon. We'll wait for Dante to return."

Steven looked at Susie, who endured the pain in her abdomen. Admiring her resolve, he handed her a weapon. The team spread out, and the first truck sped away from the hotel through the back exit.

"Cover fire!"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Susie, furious, watched the enemy advancing and fired back in rage.

"Aaaahhh!"

Boom!

Soon, the sounds of gunfire, explosions, and screams of pain filled the area.

Susie didn't care about staying behind. She trusted these men who were loyal to Dante and knew they would ensure her father's safety. The least she could do now was wait for Dante, who was still inside the building.

"They're on their way! Get ready!"

Steven crouched behind a wall and kept firing. His face showed no anxiety, but he knew that if they delayed any longer, they would be the first ones killed.

"Aaaaahhhhh!!!"

Crack!

A scream of pain echoed from afar, and soon Dante emerged, limping from an alley, followed by Crocodile, who wasn't in much better shape.

As they approached, Dante, exhausted, spotted a grenade rolling at his feet. His eyes widened.

"Grenade!"

Boom!

Dante managed to shield Susie, but both were thrown by the blast. Smoke engulfed the area, and in the haze, Dante removed his blood-soaked jacket.

"Arghhh!!!"

Steven stood up, tossed several smoke grenades, and quickly began loading people into the vehicles, starting with Dante.

Crocodile, who had recovered somewhat, helped cover the retreat before climbing into the last truck, which sped away.

"Are they following us?"

"Doesn't seem like it…"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

A group of armored soldiers fired at the truck's windows, but the level-six armor rendered their bullets ineffective.

As Dante gradually regained his focus, he looked at Susie beside him and asked, "How are you?"

"Minor injuries. I'm fine…" Susie replied, wincing in pain.

Relieved that she was okay, Dante checked the time and said, "Have one group take the wounded to a nearby safe house. The rest should recover while we head to another location."

Steven, sitting in the passenger seat, added, "Sir, they may still be tracking us. You and Miss Susie should head to a surveillance house. We'll regroup after you give your orders."

"What about my brother?" Susie asked, turning to Dante.

"He'll be taken to a safe location for surgery. You'll receive real-time updates on his recovery and be the first to know his condition," Steven assured her while inspecting one of his heavily bleeding wounds.

A few minutes later, the truck stopped, and Dante and Susie got out. Using the cover of darkness, they moved unnoticed.

However, Dante's attire made long-distance travel impossible. They quickly reached the grounds of a solitary chapel and entered through the back.

"Argh…" Dante groaned in pain as his skin burned.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Susie asked, noticing the blood staining Dante's suit. She couldn't tell which was his.

"Just help me get this jacket off. I'll close the worst wounds first, and then we'll take care of yours," Dante said as he loosened the straps of his jacket.

Soon, the dark wounds from bullet impacts, cuts, and burns from the explosions became visible across his body.

"Is there a first aid kit?" Susie asked, checking the second-floor room of the small chapel. Before turning on the lights, she decided to close the windows.

"There's probably one in the bathroom…" Dante surveyed the area and nodded, reassured that it was a safe place.
