"HAHAHAHAHAHA! THIS DUEL IS MINE, MASH!" Chazz roared, still cackling like a madman.

Mash and Lovely both tensed, their smugness has turned to visible concern on what card Chazz has up his sleeve (or ass). Up in the stands, Jaden and his friends leaned forward their curiosity bubbling.

Jaden blinked. "What do you guys think Chazz has to be that confident?"

Syrus looked pale. "I-Is it some super strong boss monster!?"

Alexis folded her arms. "Or maybe just another backrow nuke like MST or Heavy Storm?"

"Wrong." Bastion interjected calmly, arms crossed trying to look cool/aura farm. "I think I know exactly what's in Chazz's hand and trust me, it is the perfect counter to Mash entire deck and it's not even a backrow removal."

Jaden whipped his head toward him. "Really!? What is it!?"

"It's pretty simple, actually. It's just—"

"He's using {Royal Decree}, huh."

A cold voice cut in from above. It came from none other than Seto Kaiba, standing at the front of the glass-paneled viewing box, arms crossed as he observed the duel from high above.

"Hm? How are you so sure, Kaiba sir?" Sheppard asked, standing beside him with a polite chuckle.

"Maybe because I can literally see the card in his hand from up here. Idiot." Kaiba scowled.

The arena they dueled was located directly beneath the viewing box and with Chazz facing away from them, his hand was in perfect view for anyone standing above.

Sheppard blinked. "Ah… I should've worn my reading glasses."

"That's for short-sighted people, Sheppard. And also…" Kaiba's gaze shifted sharply. His finger lifted, pointing directly toward the Mash on the field.

"Who, is that 'Slifer'?"

"Oh? You mean Mash?" Sheppard smiled, clearly pleased. "Yeah, he's a fascinating one. I've been secretly watching him after a certain 'Obelisk' pester me to promote him to 'Obelisk' ASAP. His personality is… on the harsher side, sure, but his dueling talent, knowledge and skills is definitely top-tier. Especially that deck of his, even after combing through the Duel Monsters card database, I've never seen those cards before…"

Kaiba let out a scoff. "Hmph. New cards appearing out of nowhere that aren't made by that senile old man aren't new news to me. Duel Monster is always evolving… sometimes in unnatural ways."

"Is that so…"

"But," Kaiba said, cutting him off again. His eyes narrowed as he pointed once more, this time directly at Lovely Labrynth. "How is that monster of his able to move… and even talk like that? Is it some kind of bug?"

Sheppard let out a laugh. "Hahaha! I don't know! But that's what makes her real interesting, right? She's also really pretty, not gonna lie, like Miss Dorothy at her prime. Hahaha!"

Kaiba didn't respond. He just stood there in cold silence, watching Mash and Lovely through the glass as if scrutinizing every movement.

Then, finally…

"Sheppard."

"Yes?"

"I want you to do something. For that Slifer."

Sheppard raised an eyebrow. "Hm? What is it, Kaiba sir…?"

"After they're done with their duel... I want you to-"

[Back down at the arena]

Chazz slips another card, "With {Frontline Base} active, I can special summon another Level 4 monster from my hand! So I'll special summon {Y-Dragon Head}!"

A crimson, mechanical dragon roared to life, appearing beside the sleek yellow tank Chazz had summoned a few moments ago.

Lovely gasped from Mash's side. "Oh no, Darling! He already has Z and Y monsters on his field! If he has the X…"

Mash waved her off with a smug chuckle. "Pfft! Don't worry, Lovely! Chazzy-boy only has two cards in hand and no Normal Summon. Unless he somehow revives the {X-Head Cannon} in his graveyard, we're fine—"

"I'll use {Monster Reborn} to bring back X-Head Cannon from my graveyard!"

Mash's just sighed sigh as X-Head Cannon rematerialized onto the field.

"And with X Y and Z monster on my field" Chazz shouted, "I can combine them by deleting the space between them! Fusing them into-!"

all three of the monster then fly toward the sky as they merge, forming into a singular large entity.

"{XYZ-Dragon Cannon}!" Chazz declared as a large Yellow, red and blue tank falls into the field, roaring.

Lovely raised a brow. "I wonder if he'll use its effects~"

Mash crossed his arms. "I don't think so. That last card in his hand feels too important... Right, Chazz?"

"Tch." Chazz doesn't want to admit that he's right.

"You know, Mash?" Chazz smirked. "There's a saying that 'Two is better than one.' But I disagree, this 'one' is way better than VW and XYZ combined! Because I'll be combining them both into-!"

the two machine monster then fly off again to the sky to merge into a giant humanoid mech, the {VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon}.

"HAHAHA!" Chazz jabbed a finger forward. "How about that, Mash!? Feeling scared now?"

"Meh..." Mash scoffed. " it's literally a Power Rangers Megazord knockoff."

"LMAOOO~!" Lovely burst out laughing.

"These two…!" Chazz twitched violently. "Tch! Then how about this!? I activate VWXYZ's effect! Once per turn, I can target and banish a card on your field!"

"Ho… And who will you banish, I wonder?" Mash raised an eyebrow, but is nervous on the inside. [Please don't be Lovely!]

"I'll banish one of your backrow and I choose that one!"

Chazz pointed to the leftmost face-down. As the card flipped up, it revealed {Mirror Force} before instantly fading into nothingness.

Mash sighed in relief.

Chazz smirked, clearly pleased. "Now I'll head into the battle phase!"

Mash and Lovely shared a knowing grin. [Losing Mirror Force is a bummer… but I still have {Magic Cylinder} set. Come on, Chazz… take the bait.]

"Go, VWXYZ! Use your cannon to destroy his Lovel—"

And then, Chazz suddenly paused. And in that split second he paused, a neuron fired.

Mash blinked. [What the hell are you doing??? Just attack Lovely! She has 100 less ATK than your cheap Megazord!]

Chazz inhaled slowly, then exhaled. "Never mind... I'll skip my Battle Phase and go straight to Main Phase 2."

The spectator was shocked, but who is more shocked was,

[WHAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!?!??!?!?] Mash screamed internally.

Mash's jaw dropped. "Hey! Don't you want to attack and destroy my ace monster!? She's got 100 less ATK than your Mechlord and she is looking very submissive, and defenseless right now!"

"Yeah! Or are you just a pussy Obelisk, Chazzy-boy~? O ho ho ho~!"

"I'm not falling for that." Chazz slipped a card onto his Duel Disk. "I'll set a card and end my turn."

Mash sighed. "Dangit."

{Chazz hand: 0, Chazz field: 1 Monster, 1 Set}

While Mash drew his next card, a question pops up from one of the girls in the spectator seats.

"Uhm… not to be that girl or anything, but… why didn't Chazz just swing at Lovely? He has more attack than her, right?" Mindy tilted her head, glancing at Alexis and Jasmine seated beside her.

"Hm… good question, Mindy." Bastion, sitting a row above, overheard. He then cross his arms and added, "Though instead of theorizing, why don't we first ask Mash's friend who has a lot of experience watching or dueling against him."

He turned to Jaden and Syrus, "Say you two had a monster with, say, 4000 ATK. And Mash had Lovely and two set cards on the field. Would either of you attack?"

"Nope." Jaden answered almost instantly, shaking his head. "Nu uh. No way, dude. Even if there's just one set card on Mash's field, I still wouldn't risk it."

"That's the quickest way to lose, if you're up against Mash." Syrus added, nodding seriously. "If Mash hasn't already shut you down with one of his many Trap Holes or other traps like Dimensional Barrier, he definitely has some nasty protection waiting in the backrow, like Waboku, Magic Cylinder, or another Mirror Force."

"Well, there you have it," Bastion said, gesturing casually. "No need for some overcomplicated explanation. Mash uses a trap deck. One of the best I've ever seen, maybe even one of the best in the world. He's got disruption, protection, setup, utility, recycling, searching, you name it. It's simple, yet incredibly complex."

Mindy blinked. "I… see."

"Girl." Jasmine leaned in toward her. "Did you seriously forget what happened last time me and Alexis dueled against him and Jaden? Mash turned the whole duel around and beat us in just two turns."

Bastion turned sharply. "I'm sorry, what!?"

"Can all of you please be quiet and just watch the duel!" Alexis scolded them.

Back on the field...

"Hm… this is trash." Mash frowned as he looked at his new drawed card, {Trap Hole}.

[Chazz would probably not summon any more monsters to the field, Just like in the anime. So this card is useless.]

"I'll activate Lovely's effect! It lets me set a Normal Trap from my graveyard, so I'll set {Big Welcome Labrynth}!"

With a graceful flick of Lovely's wrist, the Big Welcome Labrynth trap materialized into the field face up before gently falling facedown on Mash's field.

"And with that... I'll go into the Battle Phase!"

Chazz flinched a little, but his expression is still cold.

[Alright, all I need to do is let my Lady crash into VWXYZ and have both of them destroyed and now, I'll be able to not only swing with Lovely, but also be in a massive lead, since Chazz wasted so many resource and turn just to get that monster out. Yes-yes! What a perfect plan, from the trap king himself! GYA HO HO HO!]

[But...]

Mash hesitated.

[But then there's that set card.]

Mash hesitated, Although his plans is flawless, he is still unsure about Chazz set card, [It could be just a Mirror Force or some kind of protection trap, it should be fine since I have another big welcome set up for recovery. But... what if, it's another Magic Cylinder!]

A devil version of Mash then pops out and sits on Mash right shoulder, "Bro, I think you shouldn't attack, you're luck today is kinda ass today, y'know? Just chill bro, you got this."

A angelic version of Mash then appears and fly on Mash left shoulder, "KILL THEM ALL, DESTROY THE CHILD, I WANT YOU TO SET THE WORLD ON FIREEE!!!!"

[All of you are useless!] Mash swatted them off, but, that doesn't help at all in the current situation.

[Ugh... what should I do...? Fuck it. let's go angel me. We ball—]

But just as he was about to call the attack, his gaze caught Chazz's face.

Chazz wasn't nervous. He wasn't unsure. He was smiling. So confidently.

It was the smug, satisfied grin of someone who already believed they'd won. 

"C'mon, Mash... Are you really not gonna attack?" 

"Huh??? Are you trying to bluff me?"

"Maybe, maybe not." Chazz continued, "Either way, it is your choice. Would you attack with your Lady, destroying both of our monster, and then lovely attack my LP directly. Or... you just not attack, Mash."

Both of them stared at each other down across the field as Mash choice here, will decide the outcome of this duel. The air grew denser as the pressure keeps rising.

And then... finally Mash opened his mouth and spoke a single word...

"Nope." Mash folded like an omelette under the pressure. "I'll skip the Battle Phase, set a card, and end my turn."

[Devil me was right. My luck is garbage today. So I'm playing it safe.]

While that was a fucking buzzkill. Unfortunately for Mash, it was all a bluff.

[Heh! He fell for it!] 

{Mash hands: 1, Mash field: 2 Monster, 4 set cards}

[Although…] Mash's eyes narrowed.

[I'm starting to regret not attacking and taking down his VWXYZ now... But it's alright, since the moment Chazz draw his card...]

"Draw!"

The word came loud and clear as Chazz drew his next card.

[I'll activate this!] Mash's hand immediately slapped onto his Duel Disk faster than his brain could finish processing. "Eat this! I'll activate {Big Welcome Labrynth}!"

The trap card then stands to reveal itself. "I'll Special Summon {Arianna the Labrynth Servant} from my deck and bounce the other Lady on the field to allow me to activate Lovely's effect to destroy your VWXYZ!"

"Ho ho ho~! It's over, Chazzy-boy!" Lovely Labrynth stepped forward, her axe is already spinning, eager to turn that metal mech into a silver statue. "Any last word before you bow down to our 'Glorious Win'~? Oho ho ho ho~!"

Although Mash and Lovely is already boasting about their W. Across the field, Chazz didn't flinch. He didn't panic. He just… smiled.

"Your win? Pfft," Chazz scoffed. "It's my win, Mash."

Mash was shocked: hah!? what the hell are you talking about?

Mash blinked. His stomach dropped. "Hah!? What the hell are you talking about?"

In response, Chazz calmly slid a finger toward the only set card on his field.

"In response, I'll activate this."

The card flipped.

Mash's heart stopped as the hologram projected of a king on top of a stone wall, informing something off... A {Royal Decree}.

Mash entire body stiffened.

"No way!" Mash and Lovely shouted in unison.

The king eyes glowed an ominous red as it cast its effect across the field. One by one, every trap on Mash's field dulled as they now cannot be activated.

"HAHAHAHA!" Chazz let out a triumphant laugh. "That's right! I'll activate {Royal Decree}! Now, you cannot use your trap cards, and that {Big Welcome Labrynth} of yours... will get negated by this card's effect!"

The entire field went quiet, except for Chazz's laughter.

Mash clenched his fist.

He just got decreed.
