Toji P.O.V.
*BANG*
The target's head flies forward as he receives a point-blank shot to the back of the head, making him faceplant on the TV in front of him.
That's five.
I have the inventory curse eat my target to bring him to the contact.
Haven't run into anything interesting. Let's see what Velcro has.
Pulling out my phone, I stare at the screen for a bit.
Had I not had this, everything would've been a pain in the ass.
I'm already getting sick of these easy jobs.
Eventually, I dialed Velcro.
*ring*
Near instantly, he picks up. "Yoo, Toji! I was just about to call you!"
I raise an eyebrow. "Were you, now?"
He keeps his happy tone. "Yeah, I'm heading over to your guy's place to talk about that thing you kept avoiding bringing up in the hospital."
Hmm, he's oddly...enthusiastic.
My eyes narrow in suspicion. "What else is it?"
The line is silent for a minute.
He returns to his normal tone. "*Sigh* I need to ask something of you."
My eyebrow stays raised. "Anything to do with newer jobs? All of these were boring."
Well, it makes sense that I would find these missions boring.
The two missions I took before this set of five were killing the Star Plasma Vessel and escorting VIPs.
It was terrible whiplash to return to these normal hit jobs.
His tone turned shaky. "W-well, nothing like that, but it's certainly unique."
I roll my eyes. "What the hell is it?"
He clears his throat. "*Ahem* You will be infiltra-"
"MoMmY."
The inventory curse interrupted him.
Velcro continued. "What the heck was that?"
It started crawling up my leg before curling around my body, ready to be turned into a ball.
I didn't elaborate. "Job."
He snapped back to normal. "Right, you will be... 'infiltrating' ...the JCC."
I thought for a moment before I remembered what the JCC was.
An institution for assassins.
...
I blink with a dumbfounded expression. "You want me to go to school!?"
...
He has a nervous laugh. "Haha, think of it like an infiltration mission."
I instantly respond. "No. Why would I go to a school?"
This is the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time.
Velcro sounded slightly annoyed. "Well, the JAA are pissed that you haven't gone through the JCC curriculum before becoming an Order member. The JCC is run by the JAA, making it near mandatory for all members to have been in the JCC at some point."
I narrow my eyes. "If it's 'near mandatory,' then make an exception, or tell them to piss off."
This is so stupid.
He huffed a laugh. "If you wanna tell the JAA to piss off, go right ahead, but know that you'll probably get a bounty."
I rub my forehead. "Oh no, I'm so scared. I escorted the chairman's wife and kid. Doesn't that cover it?"
His tone turns slightly serious. "Assassins don't do favors. We do jobs, we get compensation, end of story. You, of all people, should know that."
I do, but who knows when everything about Japan has been different. Besides, this is the first time there has been an assassin club.
Sighing, I stare up at the sky. "What will I need to do if I enroll in this stupid thing?"
I could hear the shit-eating grin. "You have to learn how to be an assassin~."
If he were right in front of me, I would strangle him.
I have a wide smile. "Fine, I'll do it. One hundred million yen and you got yourself a deal."
My smile stays as I move my phone away from my ear. "Are you fuckin insane!?"
I move my phone back to my ear. "No, I'm not. I'm not going to waste my time dicking around at a school if I don't get anything from it. I'm assuming that it is going to take a few months at most. If I'm in this Order thing, the amount I'm asking for costs less than it would to have me as an active member for those months. 'We do jobs, we get compensation, end of story,' am I right?"
The line went silent for a moment, but he responded. "Damn, punk."
All I did was smile. "See you soon, Velcro."
Before I hung up, he spoke. "*Sigh* I'm going to die from stress. I'll work out something, Toji, but this won't be a normal thing."
I tilt my head to the side. "I don't suppose I'll go to school as the norm."
He grunts in affirmation. "I'll be at your place in 15. I will call the rest of the group to bring them together."
He hung up.
...
Damn, I guess I'm going to school.
...
Back at the Order's Living Quarters 3rd P.O.V.
After Kindaka contacted the group of teenage assassins, he arrived at their apartment in a wheelchair.
Rion covered her mouth. "*Pft* The fastest assassin in a wheelchair."
Kindaka glanced at Toji, who kept his face neutral.
Nagumo shrugged. "Pretty ironic."
Even Sakamoto cracked a smile.
Kindaka looked slightly irritated. "*Ahem* If you called me over here to laugh at me, I should leave."
Rion shook her head and turned to Toji.
*cough*
*BLEH*
He threw up the inventory curse, which quickly expanded and shot out the body of Uzuki and his cell phone.
Nagumo whispered to Toji. "*Whisper* Do you train that thing?"
Kindaka's eyes widened. "Huh, I didn't know you kept his body. Since he was missing with you guys, I assumed he died, and it looks like I was right."
Uzuki wasn't on Kindaka's list of future Order members since he had shown no ability other than driving.
He couldn't care less if Uzuki showed up or not.
Rion rested her chin on her right palm. "Toji is the one who did it."
Kindaka stared intently at Toji. "Given that you haven't turned this into a huge spectacle, I assume there was a reason for it."
Sakamoto spoke for Toji. "He was the rat selling us out."
Kindaka had an eyebrow raised. "And why do you need me here if you took care of him?"
Nagumo's eyes turned hollow. "Because of who he was working with."
"MoMmY."
Suddenly, the inventory curse waddled its way over to Kindaka.
*Pftwoo*
He spits Uzuki's cell phone on his shoe.
Kindaka raised his foot, dripping with curse saliva. "You damn w-"
Toji shot him a look, and for the first time in a while, Kindaka felt like he would die.
Kindaka put his foot down and turned away from Toji to avoid his gaze. "*Ahem* So, who was he working with?"
Toji leaned back as the inventory curse curled around him. "Sei Asaki."
...
He blinked. "Oh...now I get why you guys wanted to talk to me privately."
Rion stood up and threw her cigarette away. "Yeah, it's a pain in the ass."
Kindaka became lost in thought as he couldn't figure out how to deal with the situation.
If there were a traitor at the executive level, they would have difficulty getting rid of him without becoming enemies of the JAA.
While Kindaka had a lot of leverage due to his position as a leader and a founder of the order, he was still below the executives.
Needlessly poking around at those people could get a target on your back.
While the room stayed silent, Toji stood up and started walking toward his room.
Nagumo tilted his head to the side. "Where are you going?"
...
He turned back toward the group. "I'm getting ready for school."
