"What's wrong, Kate?"

"Xiaoyun knows what you did."

Leyan froze. The words didn't register—or maybe her mind just refused to let them in.

"Hello?"

"Sorry. Can you say that again?"

"I said. Xiaoyun has already figured out your secrets. Renqin found out about it and told him about it this afternoon."

"Why didn't you tell me this earlier?"

As Yuqi suddenly rushed forward and grabbed her pajama by the collar, the reaction caught Kate a little off guard.

"Woah. What's this anger for? Do you want others to know about it earlier?"

Leyan slowly let Kate go as her rationality took over again. Still, her mind knew she had fucked up.

"Never mind. Sorry about that... Do you know how Renqin found out about it? Does anyone else know?" Leyan asked calmly.

"I don't know how he found it out... And I think he had only told this to Xiaoyun, and that's it."

Seeing Leyan standing there in silence, Kate felt an urge to push the blame away from herself.

"I just want to tell you, I never told him anything about it."

"I know."

A small frown appeared on Leyan's face as her mind was panicking much more than her calm face had shown.

"So, um... What are we going to do about it? Are we going to go apologize to him or sit this out?"

"I'm thinking..."

As Leyan started walking back and forth in front of Kate, it soon became apparent to Kate that Leyan herself had no idea what to do.

"Why don't we just go apologize to him right now? I'm sure he'll understand." Kate suggested.

"It would have worked if you had just told me this a few minutes earlier. I already went to his bedroom earlier and asked him about it."

"What did he say?" Kate curiously asked.

"I thought he knew about the secret, but he just kept telling me he's just tired. So I told him I misunderstood him."

"Wait, wait, wait. So if I'm getting this right, you asked him if he knows your secret, and then you told him you had no secret?"

Hearing Kate's response, Leyan froze again. Her mind quickly realized how suspicious it sounded, regardless of whether Xiaoyun knew the secret or not.

"Leyan, how can you be this stupid? You can't be serious... Great. Now we probably get a cold shoulder for the rest of the week."

As Kate continued to blame Leyan, she remained silent. She knew she had fucked up, and her mind was more focused on how to make up for it.

"If Yueyue realizes she's getting a cold shoulder response because of you, she's going to be pissed... Hell, if her jobs get changed——"

"What job changed?" Leyan asked as she finally snapped out of her own thoughts.

"Her spy agency. Today is the last day for Renqin before his department merges with Yueyue's."

Kate paused for a second, then continued.

"Imagine Yueyue getting a new position, only to be told by Xiaoyun that he doesn't trust her anymore."

"Xiaoyun wouldn't dare to do that."

"Says who? You? A psychopathic liar?"

"I'm not a liar."

"Then how did we end up in this situation? You tell me, Mrs. Chen."

As the room fell into silence, Leyan finally couldn't endure it any longer. She collapsed onto the bed in despair as a sobbing sound began to echo.

"You're right. I'm a liar. I don't deserve him..."

With the sobbing sound getting louder and louder, Kate quickly rushed over, covering Leyan's mouth with her hand.

"You idiot. Why are you crying now? What's that going to do? Can you not come up with an apology with that brain?"

After a few seconds of waiting, Leyan's voice stopped sobbing as Kate slowly let go of her hand.

"I... I don't know what to do."

Seeing her almost crawling up like a ball, looking all helpless, Kate sighed before getting out of bed.

"I'll go talk to him... Can't believe I was led around by the nose by you out of all people."

"Thank you."

As soon as Kate left the room, Leyan's hand quickly reached for a tissue before wiping the tears away.

With just a few seconds of adjustment, her facial reaction had returned to normal, almost as if it were all of it just an act.

"Thank god... That's one problem out of the way. But how am I going to tell this to Yueyue?"

Leyan thought for a bit in bed before getting up and putting her ears up against the door, listening in to the conversation outside.

"Xiaoyun, can I go inside? I just want to talk to you for a bit." Kate's voice appeared.

After a few seconds, Leyan could hear the sound of the door being opened before a closing sound echoed into her ear.

Not wasting any time, she quickly went into the hallway, walking over to Yueyue's room before knocking on the door.

"Who is it?"

"It's me. Can you let me inside?"

As the door opened, Leyan quickly rushed inside the bedroom before closing the door behind her.

"What's wrong? Why are you acting all suspicious like this?' Yueyue curiously asked as she walked back to her chair.

Leyan didn't say anything right away as she walked over to the bed before lying down, hiding herself underneath the blanket.

"I want to sleep in your bed tonight."

"Huh?"

Yueyue finally put her work down as she looked over to Leyan in disbelief. Her mind instantly had a weird feeling as she got up from her seat.

"Why don't you sleep in your own bedroom? Mom... I still have work tomorrow, stop playing around."

As she tried to get Leyan off the bed, it soon became much tougher than she had imagined, as Leyan tightly held onto the blanket.

"I won't bother you. I just want to spend a little time with my precious little princess. Is my daughter all grown up that she doesn't need mommy anymore?"

"Whatever."

Yueyue rolled her eyes as she went back to her seat. Her hand was picking up a pen before writing something down on a piece of paper.

"What are you writing about, Yueyue?" Leyan curiously asked as she peeked her head out of the blanket.

"Just a letter to a friend of mine. I just need to ask her about the commander about their spending for a corruption investigation."

"So hard working... Why don't you just leave this for your employees to do?"

"I just want something to do. I don't want to sit in the office all day... Anyway, Mom, why are you in my bedroom?"

"I wanted to tell you——Hey! How dare you try to make me talk?"

"Mom. Come on, just be honest with me. Why are you really in my room? Surely it isn't just wanting to sleep together."

After an entire minute of silence, Leyan finally spoke up again.

"Xiaoyun knows about our secret plan."

"Huh... What? You serious?" Yueyue questioned as she instantly turned her head towards Leyan.

"Do I look like I'm joking? Renqin found out about it and told Xiaoyun."

Yueyue's entire body froze still as she stared right into Leyan's eyes, her face looking a little numb as if she had lost all her senses.

"Hello?"

"No wonder he suddenly asked for a day off today... Mom, you idiot! Get over here!"

Before Yueyue could catch Leyan, she had already dived underneath the blanket again before holding it down to the bed.

"Ah! I'm sorry!"

Meanwhile, over in Xiaoyun's room...

"What did Leyan tell you to come here for?" Xiaoyun coldly asked as they both stood across from each other.

"How do you know I went into her room?"

"Just guessing... Did she send you here to apologize to me?"

"No. I'm here to apologize for myself... I shouldn't have kept this secret from you."

"Don't you think this is a bit late?" Xiaoyun questioned, staring her right in the eyes.

"I don't think so. I never even knew of that plan at all. I was only assigned to protect you, and that's it."

"Kate, do I look stupid or what?"

As the two stared back at each other in silence, Xiaoyun was the first to back down as he walked back to his chair.

"You know what, maybe I'm the stupidest person in the family. I just get played like a fiddle by my loved ones every single day."

"I really mean it. I didn't know of that plan at all."

"We were both in that room when Renqin showed that document. Why are you now acting like you don't know?"

"Because I never knew about it. I only knew about it when Renqin showed it there. I'm telling you, I only know I was assigned to protect you."

After a minute of sitting in his seat, Xiaoyun's attitude remained firm as he spoke up again.

"Don't try to gaslight me. You very well knew Leyan was hiding something. Even if you didn't know the plan exactly, you kept it away from me."

"You're right.... And that's why I'm here to apologize, Mr.Genius."
