30 Years in Whitebeard’s Crew, I Became Invincible

Chapter 84: Chapter 84: The Correct Way to Cultivate Artificial Devil Fruits

The New World was full of all kinds of islands, and Roy continued leading his crew in search of something.

This time, the target was the Tontatta Kingdom.

The Tontatta Tribe wasn't only found in Dressrosa; they existed in many places throughout the New World, and they had several kingdoms of their own.

Among the countless islands in the world, one such dwarf kingdom was located in a particularly treacherous stretch of sea.

"Big bro, why are we targeting the Tatadon Kingdom?" someone asked.

This time, Roy brought Marco and the others along.

"If they cooperate, there won't be a fight. If they don't… well, a little violence might be necessary."

"What kind of cooperation are we talking about?" Marco asked, puzzled.

"We need a special kind of fruit tree."

Roy had studied Vegapunk's research data. While Devil Fruits could theoretically grow from any fruit, the truth was, they had to be cultivated.

Caesar's half-baked methods were inadequate. Vegapunk's process was far more complete.

A special kind of apple tree was required. By careful cultivation and feeding, all the nutrients would be concentrated into a single fruit.

The reason Caesar failed was that Doflamingo's plantation method split the nutrients among multiple fruits, resulting in inferior, malnourished, and defective devil fruits.

What's worse, Caesar used diluted Devil Fruit nutrient solutions left over from older experiments, extracted from actual fruit users or their fruits, meaning the materials were already impure.

If something like the Fish-Fish Model: Azure Dragon could be artificially created, then ordinary fruits should be much easier.

This indirectly showed just how pathetic Caesar's research abilities were.

From Vegapunk's notes, Roy learned that a unique apple tree was needed, one Vegapunk had identified after extensive botanical research, and only the Tontatta's of Tatadon Kingdom had it. That kingdom was located in a perilous area of the New World, heavily protected. Vegapunk had only found it with the World Government's resources and managed to obtain a single sapling.

Roy's goal this time was to obtain such a tree, and if they refused, they would take it by force.

The storm raged violently. This stretch of sea was brutal.

The closer they got to the Calm Belt, the more treacherous it became, with towering waves and hundred-meter-high tsunamis.

The ship appeared to move forward, but in reality, it was being pushed back; approaching was nearly impossible.

"Big bro, we can't go any further! We can't get through!" Marco flew up and shouted.

"Push forward again."

Roy gave the command. The Moby Dick revved up its engines and charged into the storm.

But after just a few dozen meters, they were forced back again.

"Big bro, it's no use, we can't get in. Want me to fly ahead and scout?" Marco offered.

"Go ahead and try," Roy said, facing the raging storm.

"Alright!"

Marco flew in, but moments later was seen being violently tossed by the wind and slammed back down.

When Marco crash-landed on the deck, Roy sighed. "Looks like I'll have to try blasting it apart."

Roy unleashed his full Conqueror's Haki and fired a shockwave into the sky.

Boom!

A pulse of Conqueror's Haki exploded between heaven and earth. For a moment, the dark clouds parted and sunlight broke through—many crew members on the Moby Dick fainted, foaming at the mouth.

Although the sky briefly cleared, it only lasted a moment before the storm returned.

"Fall back for now and reassess," Roy ordered.

This sea zone was indeed no joke. Roy couldn't even imagine how Vegapunk managed to get in there.

Far away, hundreds of miles off, stood an unusual island, one half was being ravaged by wild winds, the other was completely calm, quiet, and peaceful.

"Grandpa, the sun came out over there just now!" a small Tontatta child shouted in an orchard to an old Tontatta man.

"The sun? What sun?" The old man, with a beard dragging on the ground, looked up.

"Over there! Look!"

The elder lifted his head and indeed saw a ray of sunlight.

"Oh gods... That shouldn't be possible! Go fetch the king at once!" The old man grabbed his cane and, supported by his grandson, headed toward the city.

Back on Roy's side, they had exited the dangerous waters. In the New World, the sea itself was often the deadliest enemy; countless lives were lost to it every year.

Unable to approach directly, they needed a new strategy. There was no place in the New World that couldn't be reached. Roy had even been to Lodestar Island, the penultimate island in the Grand Line

Lodestar Island's waters were among the most dangerous, rivaling even the route to Fishman Island.

Not to mention Elbaf and Wano—Roy had been there too. Those places were extremely hazardous.

It was precisely because of these natural barriers that they could avoid attacks from other pirates or even the World Government.

Did the World Government not want to destroy them?

They simply couldn't.

The strength of the Giant Kingdom of Elbaf was terrifying. Just five giants in the Giant Warrior Pirates could level entire nations.

A hundred years ago, Dorry and Brogy had ruled these seas. The giant race was a terrifying force.

A single Oars could destroy a country; no wonder Kaido admired the ancient giants, and Big Mom was obsessed with their bloodline.

"So, what now? Is there any other way in?" Roy asked.

"We can't go in from the front. But there's another, more dangerous way," Marco said.

"What way?"

"From the back, that's the North Sea. We'll pass through the Calm Belt and enter from that side."

"Marco, you're insane," Blamenco said in shock.

The Calm Belt? That place was crawling with Sea Kings! How could they possibly make it through?

But Roy fell silent in thought. The plan wasn't impossible; it just required the right approach.

Sea Kings weren't unbeatable, but those near the North Sea were especially aggressive.

It was a matter of weighing the risk.

"No problem. Let's try it. We'll skirt the edge and go buy some Seastone," Roy said.

"Why buy Seastone?" Marco and the others were confused.

"Seastone shares the same properties as the sea. If we attach it to the ship's hull, it can fool the Sea Kings," Roy explained.

"Is that even possible?" Blamenco asked, intrigued, he was a shipwright and had never heard of such a tactic.

"Of course it will. You'll see. First, let's pull back and contact Umit. Have him deliver the seastone."

"Most of the Seastone trade in the Underworld is controlled by Kaido. I hear Ace is causing trouble for Kaido lately," Marco said with a grin.

"Let's hope he knows what he's doing. Kaido's not that easy to deal with," Roy laughed.

He wasn't worried about Ace, but about his son, Loxus. If Loxus died, Roy would kill Kaido himself.
