A Dual Crest Summoner In Infinite Summoning World

Chapter 16: A Gift From The Creator

Afternoon nap had been hardwired into his DNA now. Along with Sable and his grandma, he also fell asleep after lunch and study time. And when he opened his eyes, it was always only him in the soft bedding—the other two were long since gone.

He got snacks, and then Kenzo came to play—so he had to beat the kid after chasing him in the name of 'practice.' Kenzo was happy to get beaten up. One good thing that happened after their incident was that Kenzo now did everything he told him to do without much argument. Kenzo's own parents used that to their advantage a lot. He was happy to help.

When Dante came back in the evening and Kenzo left, he was called from the backyard. He and Dante were seated on the wooden bench outside their house, Sable and the granny busy cooking for the evening.

"Do you know what Chi is?" he asked.

"The power I used?" Auren answered. He did not want to pretend.

"It's the most important thing in our bodies that keeps us alive. A gift from the creator. Everything that makes us human is the Chi. Some people call it our true soul."

Auren kept an open mind, but he was already having some doubts about it. He kept them to himself though. Dante continued,

"It's in us from birth, but it increases slowly. When it reaches a certain point, we can feel it—like you can feel it inside you. Now, you told me you guided all this power towards your legs—that means it's in large amounts. How long has it been since you started feeling this?"

"Months," Auren answered.

He couldn't say he had it since he was three. He had learned about the first summoning of a kid in these couple of years. Mostly, it happened when a kid was seven or older—that was the average. He had no idea what the earliest was, but the earlier it happened, the better it was considered. From Dante's explanation, around six to seven months—or even a year—would take after starting to feel the sense of Chi inside a kid to learn to control and use it for summoning.

He had not just skipped a year and more in just the feeling part—he had also shown he could control it somewhat.

"Can you feel it inside of you right now?" Dante asked.

"Yes."

"Is it less than how much you normally have?"

"No. It's at maximum."

He had used it this morning for summoning his particles and a little shape-forming practice. But a nap had recharged it to 70%. It had slightly increased in amount after the incident. Now he could do three full summonings and would still have 15–20% left over.

"Can you guide it near your palms? Don't use it—just guide it near them, and let it settle and do its thing," Dante continued.

The two women were listening in the whole time. At this point, they had walked near and were looking at Auren as he slowly guided the Chi in his body towards his right palm. The crest greedily took the Chi without much effort.

"The crest feels hot.." Auren said, as if he was doing it for the first time.

"That's normal. You already did the transfer? You know the summoning words?" Dante asked, surprise evident in his eyes.

Was he not supposed to learn this quickly? It wasn't that hard even for kids. Maybe Dante misunderstood him when he mentioned months and didn't clarify how many. Auren nodded. He had heard the words hundreds of times from Sable and Dante.

"Come, Companion or Curse, I will not turn."

In a second, a few barely visible black particles appeared in his open palm. The crest was pointing towards the land beneath—Dante was holding his hand like that.

"What is that?" Sable murmured.

All three of them had eyes buried on his little palm and had not missed the black particles appearing.

"I.." Dante said hesitantly, "don't know."

"Dirt?" the granny guessed.

"No, it's heavier than that. If it's taking full activation Chi, the material has to be rare and unique in properties," Dante explained. Then he looked up at Auren and asked, "Now how much Chi is still inside you?"

"A little more than half.." he answered.

The three people exchanged looks—Auren had no idea what was going on in their heads.

"Could be because of his two crests.." he heard Sable murmur as the other two nodded.

His condition was indeed rare. With barely a couple hundred people in the village, he was probably the only person with two crests in many villages and towns around them.

Auren did the summoning again for his left hand and summoned his obsidian remote. Once again, it confused his new family a great deal—Damian did not say what they could be. It was supposed to be his first time seeing his summons.

He could do that after a year or more. That should be enough time for him to collect many particles and realize the functions "accidentally."

When he unsummoned the obsidian remote and it went up in smoke—his family had officially given up. Both Dante and Sable swore it was the strangest thing they had seen. Technically, Sable being from the town and Dante, someone who had fought and traveled to many places, they were the experts on summoning crests in this village.

The three people discussed visiting the nearest town once he was older to have a proper examination of his strange summons. Apparently, there were whole professions built around checking metal object summoners. They tested the summoned metal object against all known metals in their repertoire and revealed what a person's summon was and what use it would come to.

When Auren asked if there were people who could summon gold and silver—his parents smiled and told him a weird story about two brothers who could do that, but their greed and jealousy became their downfall. There was nothing useful in that story other than the possibility that there could have indeed been such people.

Best metal summoners, Dante told him, were considered Steel and Iron object summoners. There was something called 'The Anviborn Order'—Dante said they "take" iron and steel object summoners, whatever that meant.
