A Dual Crest Summoner In Infinite Summoning World

Chapter 17: Do We Get Dorodoro?

The day after his summons were revealed, Sable and Granny started acting very weirdly around him. They let him do anything he wanted, even if it was a slightly dangerous thing that a kid should never do. They were making more sweets than usual; no one said anything about his summons and kept talking about some of the great people who were amazing even though they had normal or below-average object summons.

Their efforts made him smile.

Clearly, they didn't know how to approach this thing(His useless Summon) safely, with him being all weird for a five-year-old kid. Dante didn't seem to care much about all that—instead, he kept telling Auren how great a thing it was for him to be able to use Chi as he wished at such a young age. Dante promised to show him some moves that used a little of this Chi, even though the guy himself had said before never to use Chi for his body.

Maybe there was a method to it—who knew?

In short, they did everything to convey that he should not hope much from his summons, but that didn't mean he should feel bad about it or look down on himself. All three had their own ways to say it, but the meaning conveyed was the same.

Unlike him, they had no idea of modern technology—to them, the obsidian remote was just a rock. He too had thought the same despite having lived on Earth. To them, only a few metals were useful, only a few object summons mattered.

Auren didn't care about what they thought, but now that his family had revealed the summoning information to him, there was something he wanted to do.

Quickly, the week ended and Sunday came—Dante and Hanzo took both Auren and Kenzo to the meeting with them this time too. Kenzo only came on a few occasions; the guy could not stay still for more than ten minutes—no matter what happened. Guess that's how kids, unaware and curious about the world, would normally behave. Auren never did that. His parents knew he was a bit off, but they didn't seem to have an issue as long as he was safe and asked for everything he wanted without thinking much deeply about it.

Once, Sable and Grandma had asked him why he never asked for sweets and treats even though he ate them with such fondness when they gave it to him, and he had answered that he was aware they could not afford it. That had been the wrong thing to say—they lectured him a lot, told him never to hide his wishes. Even his father started keeping more of the prey he hunted for themselves and saved a little money just for his treats and to buy other good food.

Auren felt weird about that—others doing things for him. That was not how it usually went. He was supposed to think for everyone; being selfish was not an option.

On the way, watching the beautiful sights while holding their father's hands, the two kids were walking towards the old banyan tree outside the village. Kenzo often got distracted, but they kept him moving on the way. The discipline Dante and Hanzo had taught them while learning swordsmanship helped keep him in line. When it didn't, the promise of extra exercise as punishment if he misbehaved, always worked.

Auren asked, "Do we know what all people in the village have as their summons?"

Dante looked down at him and answered, "Of course we know."

"Hundreds of people—no one can remember all of those at all times," he said.

"We know the ones who are often needed," Dante said, finding a workaround for saying, we know the ones who matter.

Auren wanted to know all object summons in this village though—it was both a way to get more information, and maybe there was something others ignored that he could use to make his life easier in this village.

"If it's not too much, can you ask in today's meeting if I can make a list of the summons of the whole village, no matter how useful? Just having knowledge of what our village has would be useful to you as well, don't you think?" Auren asked.

Hanzo was staring at both Auren and Dante for a while, but they both ignored him. Even for Dante, this was unexpected. But he did not let it show and nodded. After a few seconds of walking in silence, he asked, "Is there a reason you asked for this?"

"Just thought seeing others' summons might help me understand my own better," Auren answered.

That he had succeeded in his first summoning attempt was not a secret. At least Hanzo and his wife knew of it—the village didn't know it yet. Auren suspected his parents were keeping it hushed because both his summons were useless in their eyes. They most likely feared someone would say bad things to hurt him because of it.

It had been a long time since Auren cared what others—strangers especially—said about him. The information he would get in return would be much more valuable than that.

"You want to do it yourself?" Dante asked, his voice truly curious now.

Auren could understand. He had never asked his parents to take him along in the village. Now he was showing interest in other villagers.

"Yes, if that is okay with you," Auren answered, looking forward.

"Ahm, sure. Would you like to do it after we finish today's gathering? How will you make a list?"

Papers were too costly. Asking for those would be too much.

Hanzo added from the side, ignoring the blabbering of Kenzo, "It would be good to have the list of all people. Elder Mukishi would spare one piece of used paper if asked, right?"

"Yes, he would be interested in having such a list too," Dante agreed.

Auren could use charcoal sticks to write if there was no ink and quill.

"Aonen, Dorodoro?" Kenzo asked.

The dumpling-like sweet was called Dorondrem. He was asking to go there afterwards.

"Sure," Auren nodded. "We get Dorodoro."

Dante and Hanzo smiled—they knew he could say the word clearly, but with Kenzo, Auren never acted too clever and matched his level. It was always amusing to look at for both their families.
