Chapter 129: Chapter 39
Ace and Yu strolled through Musutafu, the vibrant city a backdrop to their impromptu date. Street performers sang, food vendors hawked their wares, and the air buzzed with the energy of a bustling metropolis. But Ace barely noticed any of it. He was too busy trying to play it cool, a feat made all the more challenging by Yu's relentless flirting.
"So, Ace," Yu purred, linking her arm through his, "what do you want to do first? Shopping? Lunch? Maybe a quick stroll through the city?"
Ace shrugged, feigning nonchalance. "Just go with the flow," he thought. "Don't let her see you sweat." He kept walking down the sidewalk. "Whatever you want to do is fine."
Yu chuckled, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Such a mysterious guy. I like that." She paused, tilting her head slightly. "But...you seem different today."
Ace stiffened, his heart skipping a beat. "Different? How?" He struggled to maintain his facade. "What do you mean?"
Yu studied him, her gaze sharp and perceptive. "I don't know... You're more reserved, I guess. Less...flirty."
Ace's mind raced. She was catching on. Yu was used to Urataros, not him. If she started comparing their personalities, she'd definitely figure out something was up. He had to act fast.
"Urataros, switch now," Ace commanded mentally. "She's getting suspicious."
Urataros protested. "But this is so amusing! You, flustered and trying to act like you're not? I want to observe a little more."
"No! She's going to figure it out!" Ace insisted. "Switch, now."
He felt a wave of reluctance wash over him as Urataros finally relented. "Fine, fine. Things were just getting good."
Ace felt his body shift subtly, the familiar confidence of Urataros flooding his senses. He gave Yu a dazzling smile, the blue streak in his hair seeming to shimmer in the sunlight.
"Did you really think I could stay away from you for long, Yu?" Urataros drawled, his voice laced with playful affection. He reached out, gently tucking a stray strand of her blonde hair behind her ear. "I was just teasing you, my dear. You know I can't resist your charms."
Yu's expression softened, her suspicion melting away like ice in the sun. "Oh, Ace," she sighed, leaning into his touch. "You had me worried for a second there."
With the crisis averted, Urataros steered their date back on course, determined to make the most of their time together. He led Yu through the city, stopping at every charming boutique and quaint cafe that caught her eye. He showered her with compliments, making her laugh with his witty remarks and outrageous stories.
They went window shopping, Yu squealing with delight over a designer handbag. Urataros casually bought it for her.
They paused at a street food stall, sharing a plate of takoyaki. Urataros fed Yu the last piece.
They watched a street performer juggle flaming torches. Urataros, with a wink, whispered that he could do better.
As the day wore on, their bond deepened, their laughter echoing through the streets of Musutafu. Urataros made Yu feel like she was the only woman in the world, her every desire catered to, her every whim indulged.
But Ace's anxiety simmered beneath the surface. He knew this charade couldn't last forever. She is a Pro Hero and he is secretly a vigilante. Not to mention, he is a minor. Wait a minute.
Urataros, did you tell Yu how old I am? Ace asked frantically in his mind.
Urataros chuckled. "Now, why would I do something like that?"
Because you're a smooth-talking liar! Did you tell her I was older than I am?
Urataros sighed dramatically. "Alright, alright, maybe I embellished a little bit. A few years here, a few years there... It's not like it makes a difference, does it? Besides, she's having such a good time! I made her think you are 20. Maybe 21."
Ace facepalmed internally. This was a disaster waiting to happen. If Yu found out he was only sixteen, she would be furious. What Urataros was doing was a crime. What was going to happen when Yu found out?
Urataros! You bastard!
The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. They found themselves on a quiet side street, the sounds of the city fading into a gentle hum. Yu gazed up at Urataros, her eyes filled with a warmth that made Ace's stomach flutter despite himself. She reached up, her fingers tracing the line of his jaw.
"Thank you for today, Ace," she murmured, her voice soft and intimate. "I haven't had this much fun in ages."
Urataros smiled, leaning in closer. "The pleasure was all mine, Yu. You're a truly captivating woman."
She tilted her head, her lips parting slightly. The moment hung in the air, thick with anticipation. Urataros mirrored her movements, ready to seal the date with a kiss.
On the DenLiner, Naomi wrung her hands, barely able to contain her excitement. "Oi, what's happening? What's happening?" she squealed, peppering the Taros with questions.
Momotaros rolled his eyes. "Geez woman, keep your voice down! He is just about to kiss her!"
Ryutaros bounced on his heels, eager to see the show.
"Hey! This isn't for kids. avert your eyes Ryuta."
The anticipation in the dining car was palpable.
Just as their lips were about to meet, a piercing WHINE shattered the air. A swirling vortex of energy, shaped like a drill bit, hurtled toward them, tearing through the sky.
Urataros's eyes widened, his senses heightened by years of battling Imagin. He didn't have time to think. Reacting instantly, he grabbed Yu's arm, yanking her backward with surprising force.
[WHOOSH]
The vortex sliced through the space where they had been standing moments before, leaving a trail of shimmering energy in its wake. It was close. Too close.
Yu gasped, stumbling backward into Urataros's arms. "What was that?" she exclaimed, her voice trembling.
The vortex dissipated, revealing the menacing figure of the Mole Imagin, its metallic claws glinting in the fading light. Recognition flashed across Yu's face as her professional instincts took over. This was the villain she'd fought before, the one who had injured her and slipped away.
"Ace, get back!" she commanded, her voice firm, a stark contrast to the earlier soft tone.
The Mole Imagin's beady eyes flickered from Yu to Ace, a palpable wave of murderous intent washing over them. The Imagin's presence was unexpected, and this development didn't align with Urataros' plans.
Why is he here now? he wondered, his mind racing.
Yu pushed Ace behind her, adopting a defensive stance. The air crackled with tension as she prepared for a confrontation. Her Quirk was suited for large scale battles and not so much against the speed of Mole.
"So, we meet again, Mt. Lady," the Mole Imagin rasped, its voice a gravelly growl that echoed through the street. "I should finish what I started."
Urataros cursed inwardly. The Imagin's appearance ruined the mood. More importantly, this could expose his and Ace's secret.
"Ace, we need to get out of here," Urataros urged mentally. "This guy is bad news, and we can't risk Yu seeing us transform."
Ace struggled to regain control, his own panic rising. "Then do something! Get us out of here!"
But before Urataros could make a move, the Mole Imagin lunged forward, bypassing Yu entirely. Its target wasn't the Pro Hero; it was Ace.
Urataros was taken completely by surprise. "What?! Why is he coming after us?" he thought, bewildered. All of his instincts told him the Imagin's objective should have been Yu.
Yu, equally stunned by the sudden change in attack vector, reacted instinctively. With a surge of power, her body began to grow, her clothes tearing as she invoked her Gigantification Quirk. In a matter of seconds, she towered over the street, a colossal figure of purple and cream. She reached out, her enormous hand scooping up Ace with gentle precision.
"Are you alright, Ace?" Yu boomed, her voice echoing through the air.
"Uh... yeah, I'm fine," Urataros stammered, his mind reeling. This was getting exponentially more complicated.
"What now? She's holding us like a doll!" Ace cried, his voice laced with desperation. "We can't transform like this!"
Urataros had to agree. Trapped in Yu's grasp, he was effectively neutralized. And the Imagin was still out there, its focus unwavering. This situation defied all logic.
Why is he after me? I thought Yu was his objective.
He was now Yu's damsel. And he needs to get out of Yu's grasp to Henshin. He racked his brain, searching for any plausible excuse, any distraction, anything that would allow him to slip away unnoticed.
