Academy War God: Unrivalled Magic

Chapter 86: Azure Trial of the Three Elites × Whisper of the Queen

Azure Trial of the Three Elites × Whisper of the Queen As night fell, the lights of Azure Academy's training grounds dimmed to darkness, leaving only moonlight to wash over the sandy arena under the vast sky. Tonight marked the beginning of Nightshade Kuro's triple test - each battle a potential turning point in his destiny. This was not just a test of strength, but a confrontation with the breaking point of his own mind.

First match: VS Utsugi Rou Utsugi Rou, ranked eighth at the Azure Academy, was a master of vibration-based illusion attacks. The moment the battle began, he unleashed a mental shockwave that exploded into a hallucinatory landscape, threatening to trap Nightshade in a maze of false realities.

"This is my battlefield, mage! Can you see what's real?" Rou sneered, his voice thick with contempt. His illusions invaded every sense, causing the world around Nightshade to dissolve into nothingness.

Nightshade immediately summoned his card, Black Jack, his agile figure darting between the mirages, the electric glow of his cards slicing through the air like blades, shredding the illusions one by one.

But just as he was about to deliver the final blow, a whisper echoed in his mind - the queen of the deck, her voice soft as silk and cold as a blade: "You will never escape my grasp, King."

"Control...?" A tremor ran through Nightshade's mind. His concentration faltered for a moment, and the Black Jack card in his hand began to shake violently.

His aim slipped - the card veered off course and crashed to the ground, far from its intended target.

"You see? You're still lost in illusion!" Rou's voice pierced the haze. But it no longer mattered.

Nightshade gritted his teeth, forced his will back into alignment, and focused on the battlefield. In the end, he triumphed over Utsugi Rou - but not without a price. His body showed the first signs of instability, and a faint crimson glow stained his eyes.

Second match: VS Shigatsu Tsukiyo Shigatsu Tsukiyo - seventh rank - wielded an overwhelming gravity manipulation. A single wave of his hand could bend gravity itself, crushing any opponent's movement.

Nightshade stood in the center of the arena and inhaled deeply. He knew that relying on ordinary tactics would be futile. Once again, he summoned Black Jack, who flickered into motion - but was soon stopped by Tsukiyo's increased gravitational field.

"You think you can escape that?" Tsukiyo sneered, doubling the gravity until Nightshade could barely move.

Just then, the Queen's whisper returned, like a static current crawling down his spine:

"You can surrender now. Surrender. Submission is the path to true power."

Nightshade's mind trembled. His cards began to glow of their own accord, surging with a volatile black energy that twisted the air around him.

The gravity field shook violently, then rebounded. Tsukiyo's own power turned against him, pulling him into its own gravitational vortex. The blast shattered his defenses in an instant.

But Nightshade's body was now spinning out of control. His movements became erratic, the illusionary world flickering in and out of his vision. Memories and emotions threatened to collapse into oblivion. With immense effort, he pushed the vision away and stood victorious again - barely.

But the Queen's whisper remained, endless and inescapable.

Third match: VS Yagami Gouen Yagami Gouen, ranked sixth, was a close-combat powerhouse who specialized in explosive attacks. Every strike he unleashed was devastating.

From the start, Gouen's barrage had Nightshade reeling, forcing him to constantly retreat. Yet Nightshade met each blow with sharp counters, his cards flashing with precision.

But just as he began to formulate a counterattack, the queen's whisper returned to his mind:

"You were never really in control. Even if you destroy every enemy, the emptiness within will remain."

The world around him distorted again. Gouen's form faded into a blur, the battlefield slipping away like a dream. Nightshade was trapped in an echo chamber of his own fears.

Still - he refused to fall. Remembering the look in Sayaka Hōdō's eyes, her unwavering faith, Nightshade pulled himself back from the brink. With a final burst of strength, he overwhelmed Yagami Gouen in a dazzling burst of power.

Rising emotion: Sayaka's voice "Nightshade, wake up!"

Sayaka stood beside him, watching his trembling form kneel on the ground, her eyes filled with worry and pain. His vision cleared and he saw her warmth flooding his battered soul.

"Sayaka..." Nightshade murmured, her voice shaking. "I... I think I'm losing control."

"You're not," she said softly, gripping his shoulder. "You're not alone. I'll walk beside you-always."

The New Challenger Approaches Just as Nightshade regained control, a figure stepped onto the battlefield, exuding a chilling aura like death itself.

"Teimon Kageō, Azure Academy's fifth strongest," Sayaka whispered, her eyes narrowing in caution.

Teimon Kageō - a warrior of psychic control and air flow manipulation. Every move he made was shrouded in a deadly allure.

"I have arrived," Kageō said softly, his voice sharp and sure. And with that, the real trial began.

Epilogue: The Dying Flame of a Swordsman Elsewhere, Tendo Kyoichi stood alone at the hospital window, gazing into the night sky. His battle with Blackblade had left him mortally wounded - his blood no longer flowing as it once did. He knew... his time was running out.

"Blackblade..."

But even now, Tendo's will remained unshaken. His gaze grew fiercer.

"For her sake... I will survive."
