Acchon Chronicles

Chapter 4: Chapter 1.2 Continent of Danwey

Author's note: this is just an introduction to the continents on planet Acchon and is not related to any major events, so you can read it or not.

Today we will be talking about a new continent located across the Sea of Peace from Goryden, the continent of Danwey.

This continent, like the Goryden continent, is shaped like a horn, and its distinguishing feature is the clear division of climate and terrain from north to south.

In the north of the Danwey continent, there used to be a fertile plain, but one day, for unknown reasons, this plain was covered in an eternal winter, with huge icebergs and glaciers. In this area, there is only one season all year round, and that is winter.

Humans call this land the eternal frozen abyss, while the nomads call this land the eternal frozen battlefield. Both names symbolize the harshness and coldness of the northern lands.

In the northern land, separated from the south by a mountain range called the Silver Mountains, to go from south to north, one must pass through a dirt road called the Scenic Airstrip.

Moving south of the Danwey continent, the ice sheets begin to give way to vast and fertile plains, considered the heart of the Danwey continent, home to most of the humans and all the nomadic tribes. The climate here gradually becomes more temperate, with winters not considered as cold and harsh as in the northern lands, and summers here are also much longer and warmer.

The plains here are not a unified block but are divided by hills and low mountains, which are home to many different wild animals. There are large and small rivers flowing rapidly, these rivers originate from the melting ice from the northern lands flowing down to the central lands or small mountain ranges scattered in the central continent.

As one moves south, the climate becomes warmer and wetter, the southernmost part of the Danwey continent is like a transitional land, where the plains still stretch but have much more diverse vegetation, the southernmost part of the continent is also known as the Southern Plains.

Here you can find dense and vast forests, coastal wetlands and even Stone Plateaus in some areas, rivers flow from the center to the South, creating vast and fertile lands, the ecosystem here is very rich and is home to a relatively large human community, the weather is also warm enough to grow many different crops and fruits.

On the continent of Danwey there are many large and small rivers, but there are three rivers considered the three blood vessels of Danwey including:

- The Arctis River is a river that originates from the southern edge of the permafrost, flowing southeast, creating a fertile valley and an important trade route connecting many communities across the Danwey continent.

- The Glaciconsa River originates from the Sea of Dawn in the west and flows through the central plain to the Sea of Peace in the east. The Glaciconsa River winds through the vast central plain, carrying silt that makes the land more fertile, allowing for more crops to be grown.

- The Aquilonta River is shorter than the other two. It flows from the Sea of Bonren through a narrow strip of land in the south of the continent to the Sea of Peace. This river witnessed the bloodiest battles on the Danwey continent, so it was later called the River of the Dead.

When it comes to the Danwey continent, we cannot help but mention the rich vegetation here.

Starting from the north of the continent, we have the first plant that I want to mention, the giant ice moss. This is a giant moss that grows in patches on large and small ice blocks. It has the ability to absorb water from melting ice and nutrients from microscopic microorganisms. It is as white as snow and absorbs maximum sunlight.

Ice needle grass is a soft-stemmed grass that grows in small, long, narrow clumps. It grows on icy plains, glacier edges, and areas with light snowfall. It is also snow-white in color, which helps it blend in with the surrounding landscape. It has a very short lifespan of only a month or two, so it spreads across the surface rather than feeding later, allowing it to absorb water from melting ice right at the ground.

The ice crystal tree is a small tree, only about one to two meters tall, growing on vast plains, the branches are like transparent crystals that sparkle like ice, the leaves are quite small, thick and gray-green, this tree grows very slowly, because it stores energy to survive, a tree takes three to four years to fully develop, the short trunk and long canopy help the tree withstand cold winds.

The eternal snow flower is a flower that grows on the top of towering ice mountains. The flower is blue or light purple in color and gives off a gentle fragrance. This flower blooms only once every hundred years and can cure all diseases. Many people risk their lives to obtain this flower.

The Ghost Polar Bear is a bear with white fur and eyes, it has a very large body up to five meters long, the white fur makes it almost invisible to all surrounding animals, it can swim underwater for a long time and go hungry for days, it possesses an extremely fast speed, it also has a very strong, sharp jaw and always changes its teeth for most of its life, a normal one can live from five to ten years, it lives alone, it eats all the animals that appear before it, and it is also considered the pinnacle of hunting on the northern plains, when it comes to breeding season, the male will go out to find the largest prey to hunt, when they give birth, they will bring the spoils back to the female, the largest prey will be chosen by the female, each litter can have ten to twenty cubs at a time

Next is a species called the yeti, this species has snow white fur but they have red eyes, walk on two legs like humans, they have sharp blue teeth that look very scary, they are up to five to six meters tall, the females can be up to seven meters tall and live in caves full of yeti, they have sharp teeth but they eat all kinds of plants they see and thick layers of ice, when it is breeding season the female will choose the weakest male to mate with, after mating the female will eat the male, each litter they only give birth to two to three young.

There are three other animals: the ice fox, the snowbird, and the ice wolf. These three are only mentioned in the book for presentation purposes, not in detail, so I have to skip them.

Leaving behind the cold winters of the North, we come to a fertile land in the center.

The first plant we mentioned when coming to this land is ancient wheat. This wheat variety has large, firm grains and is very resistant to harsh natural conditions, so the yield is always high. This plant has a very strong stem, can withstand strong winds and is easy to harvest.

Silver willow is the most common tree growing in the Central region, the leaves have a characteristic silver color, creating an illusion when the wind blows, the wood of the silver willow is light but very strong, suitable for construction materials or boat building.

And finally, the light mushroom, this type of mushroom often grows under the canopy of silver willow trees or in caves, they often emit strong light, often used as a natural light source for miners and deep forest explorers.

Plains horses are very strong and durable horses. They have a rather short body but in return, the endurance of this breed of horse is very strong, they can run for many days without getting tired. This breed of horse is mainly used by nomads. This breed of horse only lives in the central plains and eats grass to survive. Each time they give birth, they only give birth to one or two calves.

Highland deer have large antlers and brown fur. They live in large herds and eat a lot of grass. They give birth to twenty to thirty young at a time. They are the main animal kept by nomads because they are docile and reproduce in large numbers.

The black wolf is a large wolf, about as long as a man's waist. It is quite intelligent and has gray or black fur. Its favorite food is deer and other small animals. It lives in packs with the strongest one at the head. This wolf has been subjugated by nomads and human tribes. It can have up to five litters a year.

The silverwing is a large bird with shiny silver plumage. They live in flocks that can number in the hundreds. They live mainly in the central plains. In the fall, they fly to the southern plains and return in the spring. Their main food is the leaves of the silver willow tree.

As we travel further south, we reach the southernmost part of the Danwey continent, which is the Southern Plains.

First up is the giant conifer, a towering tree with a dense canopy of needles that makes up an ancient forest. They are very long-lived and take many years to grow from sapling to mature tree, so their wood is rare and can only be used to build large structures.

Next is the wire tree, an extremely long and hard tree, often growing around giant conifers or cliffs, its strength is even greater than metal, often used as rope or paving material.

Finally, the ice peach tree is a typical fruit tree of this region, with pink skin, snow-white flesh, sweet and cool, very suitable to eat on hot summer days.

The striped tiger is a large cat with distinctive striped fur. They are agile, have strong teeth and kill their prey with great force. They live in the forest to hide and wait for their prey. When their prey is not paying attention, they will quickly catch and kill their prey immediately. They are solitary hunters.

The long-haired bison is a large cattle species, this cattle species is as big as a human body, 2-3 times heavier than a normal person, they have quite thick fur and 2 very sharp horns, this species is a herbivore living in herds, when brave enough to face danger, they will form a circle, the females and young will be in the middle, the strong ones will be on the outside to protect the herd, some individuals of this species have been domesticated by humans and used as plowing tools.

Dwarf fish are small fish that live mainly in coastal areas near the southern plains of the continent. They live in extremely large schools, each school can have up to twenty thousand to thirty thousand individuals. Each female can give birth to up to one hundred young in a litter. This species has been domesticated by humans and raised for meat.
