Chapter 161: Past unclear =Skills not eough
The owl beast–man brought Damien to a mansion at the top of the cliff. It was a gigantic mansion, with large nests on top of the roofs of the many turrets.
Though he already had a slight suspicion when he saw the owl beast-man, now that he was standing in the middle of the courtyard filled with owl beastmen, he knew that the one who called him was none other than Julian.
"Did Lord Julian ask you to bring me here?" Damien asked the beast man, who nodded.
"Our master Alec is gravely sick because of this matter. Lord Julian asked me to bring you here, my lord," said the best man as he shifted back to his human form.
Damien nodded. He was quite surprised when he saw that Julian thought it through so quickly but whether or not there was enough time for him to save this beastman remained to be seen.
"You are here." Julian stepped outside the mansion when he heard that Damien had arrived. He carefully avoided touching the door and asked a beastman to do it for him. Though no one thought anything was wrong with it, Damien narrowed his eyes when he saw it.
He noticed how Julian's fingers were twitching.
Perhaps he too thought of Damien but he didn't go out of his way to say anything. After the little spat that the two of them had, Damien had decided to refrain from speaking his mind. If someone didn't want to be saved, there was nothing that he could do.
As much as a doctor's dedication was important in treating a patient, the compliance and trust of the patient were just as important.
"Let's go inside first." Julian didn't notice anything amiss and said to Damien, "You can take a look at Alec's condition first."
Damien hummed. He disagreed or denied while Claw, who had followed him, sat on his shoulders and angrily muttered, [They are really too much. Do the beastmen think that it's alright for them to snatch someone like an Ironclaw eagle snatches prey from the ground?]
[If I had been a few months older, I would have scratched this bastard's eyes until he turned blind.] Claw spat in Damien's mind. [He is lucky that I am still not in a position where I can deal with him.
Dan, on the other hand, gave Claw a look of sheer disdain before saying, [You are really barbaric. Do you even know the time and effort it would take to transplant a person's eyes if you were to turn him blind? Do mind your manners a bit.]
[What are manners? Can I eat them?]
[My dear stupid eagle, manners are defined as—]
"Alright, you two," Damien rubbed his forehead. "Stop with your quibbling. Do you think that I don't have enough to worry about, huh?"
Damien could see the sparks flowing around him with the two spatting like children.
Julian brought him to the inner part of the mansion, and Damien noticed that many servants were running around while carrying bowls of bloody water.
"Was the wound not closed properly?" Damien asked while staring at the maid who was rushing out.
Julian's expression remained stoic as he stated in a cold voice, "It was but just as you said, the poison didn't stop spreading. It started to rot the rest of the leg that was left."

Damien had to admit that the rate of toxicity of this ferrus poison was much more intense than the bacteria of tetanus in the modern world. It hadn't been a lot of days since the limb which was affected by the poison was removed and now it was already rotting again.
It was a good thing that Damien used the points that he collected to purchase a vial of penicillin of the modern world and infused it together with the one that he created. At least that way the chances of treating this poison was much higher than using hand created penicillin alone.
"I have brought the doctor," Julian pushed open the door and announced.
"Hurry and bring him inside," a delicate yet troubled voice called out from the inside of the room. "He must be tired because of the long journey. I also need to apologise to him for our impulsive and chaotic actions."
Damien looked at the woman with her long blonde hair and elf-like features. She reminded him of someone but he couldn't pinpoint who exactly it was.
However, while Damien was looking at the woman she was looking around. She glanced left and then right before saying to her son, "Where is this doctor that you spoke of? I asked you to bring him as soon as possible."
Damien threw his head back. Honestly, why did everyone treat him like this? Was his face that unreliable?
Julian sighed as he placed his hand on Damien's shoulder and pushed him in front, "...He is the one… This is the doctor I was talking about."
Lady Patterson looked at Damien with a frown on her face. "Do you really think that he can do it? Are you sure that you want to put the life of your brother at risk under the responsibility of this man?"
She had heard about the fame of Damien and knew the things that he had done. It went without saying that she didn't trust this man at all.
"He is a really good doctor! He might have done some things in the past but a man can change." Julian tried to convince his mother. "I saw it with my own eyes; he saved not only those who were injured but even the soldiers who were infected by the ferrus poison were treated by him and none of them lost their lives!"
"They were saved by him, mother."
However, Lady Patterson was not willing to let the responsibility of her son's life be placed in the hands of Damien.
"I will not say anything ugly, as he was once a prince," said Lady Patterson with a look of disgust on her face. "But I will not let him take charge of your brother's treatment. Compared to him, Lord Carl is a much better person for treating your brother. A man like him," she curled her lips in a mocking sneer as she said, "He couldn't even save his throne. So how can he save your brother's life? A man like him, I dare not trust."
Damien heaved a sigh. He did not take Lady Patterson's words to his heart, he knew that it was quite reasonable for her to say such words.
"But mother—"
"There is no need for you to say anything to convince me," said Lady Patterson as she raised her hand and stopped him from speaking. "I have already told you that Lord Carl is a much more trustworthy person compared to him. I will not be changing my decision."
"…Since we have the best healer of our city then why should we waste anymore time by letting him take over?"
"Mother…"
"Then I will take my leave," Damien lowered his head as he offered the lady a bow, though she had forgotten her respect, there was no need for him to do the same.
"Lord Damien!" Julian turned to look at Damien who smiled at him before saying,
"More than my will to save your brother, the cooperation of your family is much more important. Since your mother doesn't wish for me to treat your brother, there is nothing that I can do about it."
He turned to look at Alec, who was arching his back as he twisted and turned on his bed. He looked like he was in grave pain, but Damien simply glanced at him before turning to walk away. Since they believed in Carl, then they might as well leave this matter in the hands of that man.
"Alec!"
"Alec!"
Julian and Lady Patterson rushed towards the four poster bed as Lady Patterson raised her head and shouted, "Someone come and bring Lord Carl."
"Alec, Alec hold on!"
Damien left the chaotic scene without blinking his eyes. There was no way out of it. He knew that it was already too late.
The poison had long spread all over the body of the man, even if he was to try his best to save him there was nothing that he could do.
"Damien?"
He paused and turned to look at Serena only then did he remember why he found Lady Patterson so familiar it was because Serena and her looked the same.
"Serena," he greeted her back with a soft smile.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, ignoring the skittering heartbeat when he saw the man smile.
"I was called to treat your brother by your brother," he guessed that it was her brother before saying to her, "But your mother didn't trust my skills enough to leave your brother in my care." as he spoke he glanced at the room with a sigh.
