Chapter 17: The Overlord
"End 8!"
The voice echoed again.
The new Elric, eyes wide in disbelief, shouted once more, louder this time. "End 8!"
Silence followed.
A third time. "End 8!"
Then a fourth.
Nothing.
Only a stark silence remained him of his failure.
The command that should've instantly ejected him from any VR simulation failed to trigger anything at all. Not even a flicker. The unease building inside his chest finally bubbled up, settling like a weight behind his chest.
This... isn't VR?
He gritted his teeth.
When virtual reality was first introduced to his world, governments had enacted strict global laws to prevent abuse. Among the most critical safety protocols was the inclusion of a hardwired, universal logout command. No matter what type of VR you were in, shouting "End 8" would forcefully terminate the simulation. Every certified VR device required a physical override component that recognized this command.
So unless... unless someone had built an illegal system or removed the override—a practically impossible feat without elite-level access—this should've worked. He wasn't valuable enough to be targeted by something like that.
Is he, at least he doesn't think so.
Even if his father a big shot, but it's nothing to do with it.
May be some poor people try something like this, but they don't have resource for that.
And who has the power, knows full well that his father doesn't care about him to give a fuck, if something happens to him.
And yet... it didn't work.
Does that mean... this is all real?
He started scanning his surroundings more attentively, searching for even the faintest clue, until one of the other Elrics broke the silence.
"Which world are you from?"
The question cut through his spiraling thoughts.
His heart, already racing, now thudded faster—but this time from a spark of something else.
Wait... is this my cheat?
A wild thought burst into his mind.
In his past life, he'd read plenty of light novels. Stories of protagonists who crossed into other worlds and unlocked powerful cheats. At first, he had thought he was the exception—sixteen years had passed since he transmigrated, and he'd seen no sign of anything like that.
Until now.
Is this it? Is this the start?
He had only recently recovered his past life's memories, and although he was starting to lay down foundations for an extraordinary life, he hadn't fully trusted his circumstances.
And his current life was not that bad either. He had been born into an extremely wealthy family in an dystopian future, where the divide between the rich and the poor was stark. The rich did as they pleased. The poor lived like livestock.
His father doesn't care to much about him, and in this world there no to much thing he could not do, so he can't say he missed him much.
But, given how many people envied him—or hated him—he had always remained on guard.
Even now, despite the nostalgic warmth he felt upon seeing these alternate versions of himself, he stayed cautious. He would observe first, trust later.
Marvel Elric, noticing the wary expression on his face, stepped forward.
He could relate.
When he had first arrived in this blank space, his thoughts had been just as paranoid. Was he being abducted by cosmic entities, like celestial? Was some demon behind it all?
Fortunately after giving One piece Elric a punch, every thing became clear.
So he chose to take the initiative.
"Hey, Eric," he began calmly. "It's like this. We're all the same person. After we were hit by that damn truck, our soul split into countless fragments, scattered across different worlds."
He pointed to himself.
"I'm from the Marvel world. He's from the One Piece world. That little guy over there is from Naruto."
He extended a hand.
"If you still don't believe it, come here. Touch me. We can share our power and memories through contact. That'll clear everything up."
The newest Elric stared at the offered hand, his breathing steady.
Somehow, deep down, he already believed it. From the moment he had stepped into this space, an indescribable sense of familiarity had washed over him. These strangers felt... like home.
Still, just before reaching out, a sudden thought gave him pause.
He narrowed his eyes.
"Wait. Before that… there might be a big problem here. Can you tell me what kind of powers you guys currently have?"
Marvel Elric let out a dry chuckle. "My powers and One Piece Elric's are nothing to brag about right now. But... this little guy?"
He gestured at Naruto Elric, who blinked innocently.
"He recently received the full power of Otsutsuki Isshiki."
That made the new Elric freeze.
The name alone was exciting enough to jump up, when you are getting his power—especially if they'd read Naruto in their past life.
A long silence settled before the new Elric finally responded, his lips curling slightly upward.
"I see. That's not very reassuring for me."
They looked at each other, are you from a very dangerous world or something.
He looked each of them in the eye.
"I'm from the Overlord world."
