Chapter 564: 564. Paradise Island.
In the North Atlantic Ocean, on Paradise Island, protected by the lost ancient gods.
This is the secluded paradise where the Amazons live, an island that cannot be detected by human technology. Even planes and aircraft carriers cannot sense its presence, let alone approach it.
It has been two years since the unique divine power erupted in Kahndaq, and in these two years, the world has seen various strange occurrences.
More and more super criminals, escalating border conflicts, and evil organizations growing bolder, all of these have been shaking the peace maintained by the Justice Society. However, for the Amazons, who have lived outside the human world for millennia, none of this has caused any stir.
Since the retreat of the old gods, the Amazons haven't left Paradise Island for a long time, nor have they sought to engage with the outside human society. These small nations, all composed of women, have lived self-sufficient, peaceful lives.
On the beach, the current Amazonian Queen Hippolyta stood alone by the sea, her gaze fixed on the distant barrier, lost in thought.
The semi-transparent barrier was a magical shield set up by the god-king Zeus to protect Paradise Island's safety and to prevent those with ill intentions from discovering its existence.
For a long time, the Amazons lived this way. But now, gradually, Hippolyta began to wonder whether it was time for them to change.
While she was deep in thought, a voice suddenly questioned her from behind.
"Your Majesty, what are you doing here?"
Hearing the familiar and pleasant voice, Hippolyta slowly turned her head, a smile on her face. "Diana, aren't you supposed to be training?"
"I've completed today's trials excellently, so the instructor gave me a break and told me to prepare for the next phase of training," Diana said excitedly, rushing over to Hippolyta and waving her fist. "Finally!"
If Alex were here at this moment, he would definitely recognize this young girl. But at this time, Diana was still far from the legendary Wonder Woman everyone knew. She was still too young, looking like a high schooler.
Looking at the young girl, whose height barely reached her shoulder, Hippolyta smiled lovingly and said, "You have this talent. I believe your future achievements will be even greater."
"Let's talk about the future later. By the way, you still haven't told me what you're doing here." Diana looked at Hippolyta curiously.
"I…"
Hippolyta's smile faltered slightly, a trace of bitterness flashing briefly in her expression. She turned her gaze toward the sea, quietly watching the waves crash against the shore.
After staring at Hippolyta for a while and seeing that she didn't speak, Diana crossed her arms and smiled as she continued, "You don't have to tell me. I know you're thinking about the outside world, right?"
Hippolyta's gaze turned to surprise, and she tilted her head. "How do you know I'm thinking about the outside world?"
"It's simple. Since the threat caused by the Kryptonian, you've been coming here more and more frequently. If I'm not mistaken, the war started by the Kryptonian is happening outside, so I guess you're becoming more and more interested in the outside world," Diana explained seriously, puffing out her chest as if proud of her insight.
"The Kryptonian started a war? I don't think I've ever mentioned that on the island. Diana, can you explain where you heard this information?" Hippolyta raised an eyebrow.
"Uh, I…" Diana fell silent, shrinking her neck, unsure how to respond.
"You…" Hippolyta shook her head, amused. "You've been eavesdropping on our meetings again, haven't you? I told you before that when you grow up and become a true warrior, my position will be passed on to you. You will be the new queen of the Amazons."
Hippolyta walked over to Diana and draped her arm around her shoulders.
Hippolyta had expected Diana to be excited and happy upon hearing this, but to her surprise, Diana just calmly gazed out at the horizon.
"You said… What is the outside world like?" Diana asked softly.
"The outside world?" Hippolyta hesitated for a moment, then sighed lightly. "It's a very dangerous world. Even the most outstanding warriors among the Amazons cannot guarantee their safety one hundred percent."
"Not even you?" Diana looked up at Hippolyta.
Noticing Diana's gaze, Hippolyta shook her head. "Diana, the world isn't as simple as you think. The reason our people live on Paradise Island and avoid contact with the outside world is because it's a decision we had no choice but to make."
"Then, if the outside world is so dangerous, what will happen if those people lose? If they can't stop the invaders, will our world be next?" Diana asked seriously.
Hippolyta opened her mouth. She wanted to come up with some excuse, but looking into Diana's eyes, she suddenly didn't know what to say.
The Kryptonian war five years ago had already sounded the greatest alarm for her. That event was not just a crisis for the human world; even Paradise Island was in danger. However, at that time, they were unaware of it.
If General Zod had truly killed Kara and used the Genesis Engine to transform the entire Earth, not only would the humans on Earth perish, but the Amazons on Paradise Island would have been wiped out as well.
In some sense, she should be thankful to the humans who stopped General Zod.
After learning the full details of that battle, Hippolyta was left with a mixture of dread and relief. Paradise Island had narrowly escaped death.
Because Paradise Island had remained isolated from human society for so long, they hadn't received any information about the Genesis Engine or General Zod. By the time they realized what had happened, the war had already ended over six months ago.
Although the crisis had passed, the thorn in Hippolyta's heart still remained.
The safety of Paradise Island could not be left in the hands of those humans. If they failed, then just as a fire in the city gate would affect the fish in the moat, the Amazons, who were also a part of Earth, would not be spared.
So…
She wanted to leave.
She wanted to go out and see the outside world, to establish an alliance with the human protectors of Earth, and to contribute her strength to the safety of all living beings on Earth.
This wasn't just for others—it was for the people of Paradise Island and for the still-growing Diana.
At first, this was just an immature thought, but the energy reaction in Kahndaq two years ago made her feel a sense of urgency.
The terrifying presence of six Hell Demon Lords and the divine power of the Egyptian gods appearing at the same time meant that the whole world was undergoing significant changes. The forces of ancient times were awakening again, and Hippolyta knew just how impactful that would be.
After all, she had personally experienced the war of the ancient era and knew the kinds of dangers that lay beyond Earth.
If the events in Kahndaq two years ago had only given Hippolyta a sense of urgency, then the recent birth of Shazam, who inherited the powers of Zeus, was what truly solidified her decision to leave Paradise Island.
Since ancient times, the Amazon tribe had had a deep connection with the gods of Olympus. That child, Billy, who inherited the powers of Zeus and other gods, was naturally considered an old friend of the Amazons.
In a way, the boy named Billy was like Diana to Hippolyta—a "legacy" left by Zeus. What she needed to do was protect these two warriors before they fully grew up.
"What are you thinking about?" Diana asked when Hippolyta remained silent.
"Oh, sorry, I was lost in thought," Hippolyta replied.
She wiped her face and sighed deeply.
"Diana, you're a smart child, and the most talented one on Paradise Island. The future of this world is destined to belong to you. Before that happens, I will shield you from all dangers."
"Is there an invader? What are you going to do?" Diana's face changed.
"It's just a feeling. I've been feeling uneasy these past few days. Perhaps something big is about to happen. I'm planning to leave Paradise Island in a few days to find the guardians of the outside world and warn them of the coming danger," Hippolyta explained.
She had hesitated before, but now the situation had become dire. More and more clues were warning her that a terrifying catastrophe was about to strike Earth, and they had to prepare in advance.
"You're leaving Paradise Island!?" Diana exclaimed in surprise. "But, but you're the Queen! How can you leave here?"
"This is my responsibility, Diana," Hippolyta said with a smile, ruffling Diana's head.
"To protect Paradise Island, to protect you, I must—"
Before she could finish, a strange feeling rose within her heart.
A brief moment of confusion crossed Hippolyta's face, but it quickly changed to shock. She suddenly turned her head and looked toward the sky.
Just as her gaze shifted upward, a deep blue circular beam of light suddenly descended from the sky, passing through the barrier and landing directly within Paradise Island.
"What's that?" Diana widened her eyes, unsure of what was happening.
But standing beside her, Hippolyta's face froze as she recognized the light—it was the same technology used by the invaders years ago.
Looking toward the source of the light, Hippolyta suddenly had a realization, and a look of panic appeared in her eyes.
"This is bad!"
