Chapter 54: Father Arrested, Felicia’s Troubles
Tony felt a headache coming on—installing a plasma blade into a form-fitting suit was far more difficult than equipping his Iron Man armor.
It would fry quite a few brain cells.
But it was a win-win situation, so he agreed. "Alright, alright, I'll do my best. Expect good news."
Ye Li nodded in satisfaction.
The two tinkered for a while longer before Jarvis reported, "Sir, Miss Pepper has returned."
"Good, as long as she's safe."
Tony paused his work, having already called Pepper earlier to check on her.
Ye Li's advanced spider-sense flashed with some images, revealing that accompanying Pepper was S.H.I.E.L.D.'s old workhorse, Coulson.
"Carry on."
He said to Tony, activating the invisibility and teleportation of the Snake Talisman, disappearing instantly from sight.
Tony was left dumbfounded.
He really did come and go as he pleased.
...
In the next second,
Ye Li reappeared in the gallery.
Returning to the studio, he saw Skye and Cindy practicing closely together.
"Here—place your hand this way."
Cindy stood behind Skye, holding her wrist, guiding her through the moves. "When you punch, remember to use your waist for power."
Skye obediently followed the guidance, twisting her waist, and the results improved noticeably. "Cindy, you're amazing~"
Cindy beamed brightly, extending her leg to hook Skye's knee and correct her footwork. "You have such a balanced figure; you must exercise regularly, right?"
Skye: "I've been working out with Li."
…..
"You're doing well."
Ye Li walked in, scanning the room. "Where's Felicia? Did she leave?"
Cindy peeked out from behind Skye and replied, "Felicia said something happened at home. She seemed to leave in a hurry."
"I see."
Ye Li thought of something but didn't press further.
He looked at the two girls with a gentle smile. "Alright then, let me teach you first~"
...
Meanwhile, Felicia hurried toward the police station, her beautiful brows furrowed, eyes filled with worry.
How could this be…
Wasn't her father just a salesman…
Why were they saying he was the thief known as The Black Cat?
There must be some mistake.
With this thought in mind, she arrived at the New York Police Department, intending to defend her father.
However, the solid evidence that Commissioner George presented left her speechless...
"The case of The Black Cat, the infamous thief, has cost the police a lot of effort."
"After a long investigation, we have sufficient evidence to prove that your father, Walter Hardy, is The Black Cat."
George held up the evidence as he stated the facts.
But seeing the girl before him looking utterly dazed, he softened his tone. "When investigating Walter Hardy, I came across your records.
Felicia Hardy, a student at Midtown High, a classmate of my daughter.
As a father, I understand.
Something like this is unfortunate for you, and I hope you can come to terms with it."
"I know you, Commissioner George,"
Felicia said with a bitter smile. "Your daughter is well-known at school. I've seen Gwen's performances..."
George sighed...
A classmate's father being a police officer while her own was a thief—the psychological blow to this girl must be immense.
"Commissioner George, what will happen to my father?"
Felicia still wanted to find a way to help her father.
He had given her a privileged life—others could blame him, but she couldn't...
"That will depend on the court's ruling. Based on my years of experience..."
George explained, "If the stolen goods are fully recovered, it could significantly reduce his sentence. But your father's theft involved substantial amounts, including some priceless treasures."
He didn't finish his sentence, but the meaning was clear—this wasn't something a high school student like Felicia could resolve.
Perhaps he should guide Felicia to prevent her from following in her father's footsteps and going astray.
But as the police commissioner, he was very busy and didn't have time to counsel a high schooler.
As George thought about it, he inexplicably thought of Jessica.
That girl who constantly snuck out to act as a vigilante.
Though impulsive, her sense of justice was undeniable—George approved of that aspect.
Perhaps he could have Felicia spend some time with Jessica and let her be influenced positively, preventing her from going down the wrong path in the future.
With this in mind, Commissioner George pulled out a band card Gwen had given him and handed it to Felicia.
"I can't do much to help, but you probably know my daughter's friend Jessica.
She's quite popular at school right now. Maybe you could join her band and use the popularity to raise some money..."
At this point, George felt like he couldn't make up more excuses and left, claiming he had other matters to attend to.
"..."
Staring at the card in her palm, Felicia thought for a moment before slipping it into her bag.
…..
On her way home, however, she felt torn.
The school band wouldn't earn much money, and it was nowhere near enough compared to the amount needed to reduce her father's sentence...
Felicia didn't know—the trouble her father was in was much bigger than she had imagined...
