Chapter 260: Hiding the Beauty in a Golden House, Selina Gets Jealous_3
But wait a moment...
David seemed to think of something, his curiosity piqued as he asked, "You, a Bear Countryman, how come you can make so many Chinese dishes?"
From the aroma and color of these dishes, they were definitely not carelessly made, indicating a certain level of skill.
Maggie smiled and replied, "I used to stay in Huaxia for two years, and I learned these Chinese dishes there. Give them a try, Director David, see if they match your taste."
Despite her invitation, David remained unmoved, scrutinizing her with his gaze.
"Don't worry, there's no poison, and besides, I'm under surveillance by your people now, so there's no way I could have gotten any poison."
To prove herself, Maggie casually sat down and began to eat heartily, adeptly using chopsticks.
After a brief hesitation, David also sat down, picking up a piece of green pepper with his chopsticks and tasting it. The flavor was just right, not too salty, not too bland, and the heat was perfect, with the meat being pork belly that was fatty but not greasy.
To be fair, although Maggie was a spy, her cooking skill was indeed commendable. It seemed being a spy was not an easy job, requiring proficiency in various skills.
Twenty minutes later, looking at the empty plates on the table, Maggie showed a hint of a smile and said, "Director David, shall I cook a couple more dishes for you?"
"Enough, I'm full," he responded.
"How about it? My cooking isn't bad, right? If you like, Director David, I can cook for you every day. I still have more than a dozen specialties I haven't made yet."
David wiped his mouth and looked up at her with a warning glance, saying, "Enough with these tricks. We are not on the same side. Just like I said before, once I get what I want, I'll send you wherever you wish to go, and after that, we will have no further involvement. Understand?"
Keeping a Bear Country spy by his side, if people found out and decided to make a big deal of it, would naturally be a blow to his future prospects. He certainly wouldn't be foolish enough to take such a risk.
"Alright, I understand. Go have a rest, I'll clean up here," she said.
As David watched Maggie start tidying up the bowls and chopsticks on her own, seemingly very thoughtful, a pang of guilt suddenly rose in his heart. Were the words he had just spoken too harsh?
However, upon reflection, he remembered that Maggie was no ordinary spy; her specialty was seducing high-ranking officials with her beauty. He couldn't guarantee that her current demeanor wasn't an act designed to invoke his sympathy.
With this thought, David quickly dismissed these disordered ideas and turned to switch on the television in the living room.
Twenty minutes later, Maggie had finished cleaning the tableware. She emerged from her room, holding some clothes, and announced, "I'm going to take a shower."
David nodded slightly.
About ten minutes later, a knock on the door was heard, and he promptly went to open it, only to see Selina's figure appearing at the door.
"Come in," he said.
As the two settled into the living room, before Selina could say anything, the sound of water droplets caught her attention.
Looking in the direction of the bathroom, she could see the silhouette of a person faintly through the steam, and with the pronounced difference in height and form between men and women, she could tell at once that there was a woman inside, which dimmed her perfectly done makeup.
Thoughts whirled in her head as the sound of running water in the bathroom ceased, and a few seconds later, Maggie, clad in a lace dressing gown, stepped out. Her impressive figure paired with her damp hair and an attractive face made even David instinctively swallow.
As for Selina, seeing such a beauty, who was no less attractive than herself, emerge from the bathroom was like a knife to her heart.
Although the Kennedy Family had not formally proposed a marriage alliance, in Selina's mind, the matter was as good as settled. Now, Maggie's presence seemed to have stolen something that belonged to her.
This was something Selina's strong pride found hard to accept at the moment.
"Oh, do we have a guest?" Maggie remarked.
"It's none of your business, back to your room," David instructed.
Maggie didn't say anything more and, while drying her hair with a towel, went into her room.
"You've come to see me about the alliance's response last night, right?" David asked.
"Is she your girlfriend?" Selina inquired.
Where Selina's mind was too occupied with clarifying the relationship between the woman and David to think about the alliance.
"No, she's just a friend staying here temporarily," he replied.
Although David did not explicitly confirm it, Selina did not believe his words.
If she were just a friend, would she be so informal as to wear a lace dressing gown openly?
That must be someone with a very intimate relationship. Your next read is at My Virtual Library Empire
Of course, that was just Selina's perspective. If she had known what kind of person Maggie was, she might not have thought so much of it.
But David could not explain Maggie's identity to her, as doing so could expose the scathing details about Lolita Island and potentially cause trouble.
"By the way, about the alliance you mentioned last night, I've considered it. I can agree, but about the specifics, shouldn't the Kennedy Family send someone else to meet with me, to have a proper discussion?"
While he knew Selina held not a low position within the Kennedy Family, she was after all just a woman. Surely their leadership could not continue to communicate with him through her indefinitely.
