Chapter 261: Heading to Las Vegas
"What, am I not qualified enough, or do you want to talk to someone else?"
Selina's words were somewhat cold.
"That's not it. This is a matter involving the Freemasonry Group, and what I want to know is, if a cooperation is reached, what can I do for you, and in turn, what can you offer me? Many of the details need to be discussed in-depth by both parties, don't they?"
Selina didn't reply. She stood up and headed for the door, which completely puzzled David. He immediately asked, "What do you mean by this?"
"We'll talk about it later."
Selina walked out the door without another word, leaving David all the more bewildered.
It's she who proposed the cooperation, and yet now that I've agreed, she leaves coldly without a proper response?
What's the meaning of this?
David hadn't realized that it was Maggie's appearance there that had caused Selina's attitude to plummet so drastically since he was utterly unaware of the other party's intention to engage him in marriage.
Downstairs in the apartment, Selina got into the Cadillac, and the driver, sounding puzzled, said, "There were no Inspectors here yesterday, so why have so many been assigned here today?"
"Being watched by Freemasonry, how could he not be afraid?"
Selina hadn't realized that these Inspectors were there to guard Maggie and thought it was because David felt threatened by Freemasonry.
Next, she took out her phone and dialed a number.
"Any updates, Selina?"
"He's agreed to work with us."
"Agreed, has he? It seems that after being targeted by Freemasonry, he's realized that he can't contend on his own and needs our help!"
Upon hearing this news, a hint of joy seeped through the man's voice on the other end of the phone.
With the bureau's most formidable weapon in hand, along with the resources controlled by the Kennedy Family, he believed that as long as they found the right opportunity in the future, they could certainly inflict 'pain' on Freemasonry!
"What's wrong, Selina, is there more?"
Listening to the silence on the other end of the phone, her father seemed to sense something and couldn't help asking.
"Father, about the marriage alliance we talked about last time..."
"Oh right, now that he's agreed to cooperate, we must accelerate the process for the marriage alliance. Let's do this—I'll send Nabu over in the next couple of days."
Though they had reached a cooperative agreement, it was only verbal, without much solidity.
In the future, David could very well change sides if he found the situation unfavorable or if Freemasonry exerted pressure and tried to woo him.
Only through a marriage alliance, making David a son-in-law of the Kennedy Family, could they remove any possibility of Freemasonry luring him away later on, binding David and the Kennedy Family together on the same boat.
Thinking of Maggie in the room just moments ago, and hearing her father's words, a wave of mixed feelings surged in Selina's heart. Biting her red lips, she said, "But father, it seems he... might be involved with another woman..." Your journey continues with My Virtual Library Empire
Upon hearing this, Selina's father was momentarily taken aback, but still insisted, "That can't be... Isn't he unmarried? And you said there are no other women around him; what's going on now?"
"I'm not sure, but I saw them with my eyes, right there in his living place..."
Selina hadn't been around the Western Suburbs Branch much lately, so she wasn't clear on when exactly David had become involved with this woman.
"Did you hint around whether she's his woman?"
"He says she's just a friend, but I feel it's not as simple as just being friends..."
"So what if that's the case? Maybe you're reading too much into it. Perhaps they really are just friends. Now that he's being targeted by Freemasonry, he's under a lot of pressure. If we propose a marriage, he'll surely consider it carefully. Think positively, Selina, and consider the family a bit more."
Her father, initially worried, relaxed upon hearing this.
Men, especially vigorous young ones like David, sometimes need a release, and that's normal.
As long as David remains unmarried and is willing to agree to a marriage alliance with their family, then this is a minor issue.
Selina, with her high self-esteem, felt discomfort upon hearing her soon-to-be man might have such an 'indiscretion.'
However, her father's words "consider the family a bit more" forced her to confront reality. After struggling internally, she said, "All right, father. But he also said that since we're going to cooperate, he'd like to meet with someone from our side to discuss things properly."
"Hmm... that's true. Since we're cooperating, we really should talk. Tell him when he has time, and as a show of sincerity... I'll come back personally to talk with him."
As he spoke that last sentence, Selina's father's voice became hesitant and heavy, as if it took great resolve to make this decision.
"You're coming back personally? But if Freemasonry finds out, the risk will be considerable..."
Selina looked worried.
"I can't be a coward for the rest of my life. Sooner or later, I must come back to take charge. That's it then; go and set a time with him."
"Okay, father."
Seeing her father's resolute decision, Selina knew it was fruitless to argue further. After the call ended, she immediately found David's number and dialed it.
