Chapter 261: Heading to Las Vegas_2
In the apartment, seeing the incoming call from Selina, David answered with an air of confusion, "What's up, Selina."
"Didn't you just say you wanted to meet with our family's senior members to talk? When could you make the time for that?"
David thought for a moment. He had to go to Nevada State the day after tomorrow to deal with the matter of a spy for the CIA, and then he had to discuss the campaign with Lawson. If everything went as planned, he should be able to return in about two days. Explore more stories at My Virtual Library Empire
With this in mind, he replied, "How about three days from now at four in the afternoon? If that's possible, have your family's people come to my office to see me. That won't be a problem, will it?"
"Understood."
...
The next morning.
Nisen walked into the Western Suburb Branch with a female companion.
She appeared to be in her early thirties, tall and well-proportioned, dressed in a rather snug black women's suit that accentuated the curves of her hips and the straight lines of her legs, attracting several glances from the passing Inspectors.
"Kepel, this is our reception hall. People coming for tax matters will be announced by the reception staff here and then will be taken to the Inspectors' workspaces upstairs to handle their business..."
The woman named Kepel was Nisen's cousin, and she was the administrative secretary coming in today for an interview with David.
After Nisen showed her around the reception hall on the first floor, he took her up to the second, third, fourth floors... acquainting her with the overall structure of the branch. Once he thought he had explained enough, he finally brought her to his own office.
"There are a few more things, Kepel. Remember them well," he said.
Kepel nodded, all ears.
"First, our Director likes 'Queen's Coffee.' When he arrives at the office in the morning, you shouldn't do anything else before preparing a cup for him."
"Second, any tax files that do not reach the 5 million mark don't require his personal review. After confirming with the relevant department head, you can approve it on his behalf."
"Third..."
Nisen continued to explain important details to Kepel, who nodded frequently to show she understood.
Lastly, seeing that he had covered most of what he wanted to say, Nisen added, "Alright, that's about it. Try to act confident in front of him, showcase all your abilities, as this may be a rare opportunity in your life. Seize it well, Cousin Kepel."
A spark of determination flashed in Kepel's eyes.
Previously, she worked at the Las Vegas Bureau of Land Management, but compared to a powerhouse agency like the Tax Bureau, the two were worlds apart.
If she passed the interview and became the administrative assistant for the Western Suburbs Branch, her future prospects looked very bright.
After all, there's a big difference between an Inspector and a Director's assistant.
An Inspector must gain experience step by step and earn commendations to slowly climb the ranks.
But as a Director's administrative assistant, with administrative management experience, she could be directly promoted to a management position when the right opportunity comes along.
Beyond that, there was one more crucial point.
She was interviewing not for just any Director's administrative assistant role, but for David's administrative assistant.
As the current bright star of the Tax Bureau, it was foreseeable that David's position in the bureau would be of great significance in the future.
If she took good care of David and had such a connection, when the right opportunity for an external appointment came along, she might not become a branch head, but becoming a Tax Investigator or even a deputy head of a branch should be well within reach.
As she was lost in thought, the phone on Nisen's desk rang. He picked it up, said "Understood," and then hung up before turning to Kepel, "The Director is here; let's go."
The two walked one after the other and quickly arrived at David's office door. After knocking, they entered to find David already inside.
Nisen introduced her immediately, "Director, this is my cousin I mentioned to you yesterday; her name is Kepel."
Despite being mentally prepared, Kepel was slightly nervous upon meeting the legendary figure, especially because David's recent fame featured him regularly on the front pages of America's major media outlets. However, her years of experience at the Bureau of Land Management helped her quickly regain composure. She confidently introduced herself, "Director David, hello. My name is Kepel, full name Kepel Hardy. It's a pleasure to meet you, and I'm delighted to have the opportunity to be interviewed by you today."
"Hello, Kepel."
David stood up and shook her hand, then asked, "Do you have your resume with you?"
"Yes."
Kepel immediately opened her handbag, took out a well-prepared resume, and handed it over.
After reviewing her resume, David got a good idea of Kepel's background.
While Kepel hadn't graduated from top universities like Harvard or Massachusetts, she came from the University of Pennsylvania, which also could be considered prestigious.
So education-wise, she had no issues.
As for her work experience, she had spent 5 years working at the Las Vegas Bureau of Land Management. She was well-versed in government agency operations, so her credentials were solid. It didn't seem like Nisen was trying to force through a placement based on connections alone.
