Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Water 7!
Our ship had accumulated damage over the past year that we had been sailing it. We had decided to travel to Water 7 in order to get a larger ship and hopefully find a shipwright to add to our crew. It had been almost a year since I set out to sea. According to the system, Luffy should be setting out on his own journey anytime now. I wonder if I'll get a chance to run into him.
"Man, so this Water 7? This place looks just as cool as I hoped it would. It's sure took us a long time to get here though." I said.
"Well it's not my fault. I could have led you straight here but you kept setting us out on detours." Rei said.
"That's not my fault. When you end up in somewhere called the Desert Archipelago, you have to stop at every desert shop they have. It's an ironclad law of the sea." I said.
"We were there for over a month!" She replied.
"There were a lot of desert shops there! Anyway it's not like we were in a big rush, the bottom line is that we're here now let's head to the shipyard and see if we can find anyone who'd be willing to join us."
We all headed over to the shipyard and talked with one of the shipwrights who had on a jean jacket and was smoking a cigar, his name was Paulie. "You guys have a nice looking ship are you sure you don't just want us to fix it up for you? It's not that far gone yet."
"Yeah I know, and I'd like to keep it around too but if we're going to continue on the Grand Line we're going to need a bigger and more durable ship." I replied.
"I see what you mean, if you want we can build another ship just like it with the upgrades you guys want. It's not going to be cheap though, and it'd take about a week." Paulie said. "H-Hey you can't be on a job site dressed like that! You need to button up right away, that's inappropriate." Paulie said as he noticed Rei's revealing apparel.
"Yeah tell me about it, I wish I could get her fixed while I was here too." I said causing the rest of my crew to laugh, though Rei herself wasn't amused. "So how much is this going to set me back?"
"I'd say we could so it for about 200 million berries."
"Yeah that's fine. I said as I motioned for Jack to hand over the money. "I'll go ahead and pay upfront, just let me know when the ship is done." Being a Warlord of the Sea had its perks as I was able to rack up a decent chunk of change from the rewards for defeating other pirate crews.
"A pirate crew paying up front? That's unusual. I guess it pays to do business with one of the Seven Warlords." Said the Mayor of Water 7, a middle aged man with blue hair called Iceberg. He was accompanied by his secretary Kalifa, who was secretly a member of CP9 a covert operations force for the world government. I thought about mentioning it to someone, but no one would believe me anyway so I figured it wasn't worth mentioning.
"Oh aren't you the boss around here? I hear you used to be a famous shipwright yourself. You wouldn't be interested in joining my crew would you?" I asked.
"While I'm flattered that someone of your status even knows who I am, I'm afraid I'll have to decline. I am needed here after all. But if you ask around I'm sure you'll find someone around here that's interested in joining your crew." He replied.
"Yeah I figured. It was worth a shot though. Do you have anyone around here that you would recommend?"
"Well, all of the shipwrights here at Water 7 are top notch shipbuilders, and they're no slouches in a fight either. One of our best workers is a man named Rob Lucci. He doesn't talk much though. Though he's such a good worker I'd hate for you to take him away from here."
"Right, well I'll ask around. Thanks anyways." I said as I bid Mayor Iceberg farewell. The Lucci he was talking about just so happened to be the leader of CP9, there were a couple more agents undercover in town as well. But again I didn't want to get mixed up in it. It'll work itself out eventually anyway.
We'd asked around over the next few days as we were waiting for our ship to be completed. However, we ran into the problem of the top shipwrights in town not being interested in leaving and the ones that were willing to join us were just apprentice shipwrights who hadn't proven themselves yet. I was beginning to worry that we wouldn't find a shipwright for our crew. And if we couldn't find one here where else could we? I asked Paulie about it the next day as I went to check on the progress on our ship.
"I see you haven't had any luck yet. That's too bad." He said cupping his chin in contemplation. "Well there is one guy I know, but he's a little bit… antisocial I guess."
"That's fine with me as long as he can do the job." I said desperate to find a shipwright at this point.
Paulie then introduced me to one of the guys who was working on my ship. "This is Charter Sigmund, he's a top notch shipwright I can guarantee. But…"
"So you guys are pirates right? Then fight me!" He said drawing an unusual looking sword. The man was maybe a few years older than me. He had a muscular build with blue hair.
"But he's a fighting maniac. I guess he's heard too many stories about pirates having epic battles at sea and now he's obsessed. He tends to over do it a bit when fighting gets involved. Sometimes it gets in the way of his work."
"I have no problem with that, in fact that should help him fit in on our crew." I said. "So how about we make a deal? If I beat you, you have to join my crew."
"Deal. What do I get if I win?"
"It doesn't matter, it can be anything you want I guess." I said indifferently.
"Alright if you say so let's g-" as soon as the fight started I crushed him with Samehada.
"Welcome to the crew." I said with a smile as I extended a hand to help him up.
