Chapter 7: Chapter 8: Aoi Kunisaku vs. Rukawa Kaede

Soon, Aoi Kunisaku and Rukawa Kaede stood on the court.

The others were standing outside the court, quietly waiting for the two to face off.

At this moment, Kogure Kiminobu, who was watching curiously, spoke up, "Akagi, who do you think will win?"

Akagi Takenori was silent for a moment before slowly responding, "Who knows? Neither of them are easy to deal with."

First-year student Kuwata Toki spoke up, "I think Rukawa Kaede has a better chance of winning. After all, he's a super rookie."

Yamada Tadashi and Ishii Kentaro, both first-years like Rukawa Kaede, nodded in agreement.

They were from the same grade as Rukawa Kaede, so they naturally knew him better.

Ayako, however, had a different opinion. "Not necessarily. Rukawa Kaede is strong, but Aoi Kunisaku feels different to me. He's not someone simple."

She then turned to Shimizu Kanon and asked, "Kanon, what do you think?"

Shimizu Kanon flashed a confident smile and said with certainty, "Saku-chan won't lose."

Her words were firm, without the slightest hesitation.

Ayako was a bit surprised as she looked at her. "You're that confident he'll win?"

Shimizu Kanon replied, "Of course! Saku-chan has never lost before!"

She had absolute confidence in Aoi Kunisaku's strength.

She had once seen Aoi Kunisaku single-handedly crush five adult men.

Since then, she had truly realized how terrifying her childhood friend's abilities were.

Sakuragi Hanamichi crossed his arms and looked at the two on the court, clearly displeased. He muttered, "Hmph, two guys who only know how to steal the spotlight."

As he thought this, his eyes suddenly lit up, as if he had an idea, and a mischievous smile appeared on his face.

On the court, Aoi Kunisaku and Rukawa Kaede stood facing each other.

Rukawa Kaede spoke up, "Who goes first?"

Aoi Kunisaku lazily replied, "You can go first. I don't have much time to play with you."

Hearing this, Rukawa Kaede's brows furrowed, his face darkened, and his anger and battle intent intensified.

He didn't say anything else but grabbed the ball and took an attacking stance.

Aoi Kunisaku, too, bent down and got ready for Rukawa Kaede's attack.

But his lazy demeanor didn't change one bit.

This only made Rukawa Kaede angrier. His eyes glinted with cold light as he decided to teach this arrogant guy a lesson.

Boom...

Boom...

Boom...

The sound of the basketball bouncing began echoing through the gym.

Rukawa Kaede dribbled the ball, his gaze sharp and eagle-like as he stared at Aoi Kunisaku.

Everyone on the sidelines held their breath, eyes fixed on the two on the court.

Soon, the sound of the ball bouncing abruptly stopped, and Rukawa Kaede made his move.

With a sharp motion, Rukawa Kaede switched the ball to his left hand, but his body shot forward like an arrow.

In the blink of an eye, he was already at Aoi Kunisaku's left side.

So fast.

The spectators were wide-eyed, amazed at Rukawa Kaede's sudden burst of speed.

Only Shimizu Kanon's face showed no surprise.

Everyone thought Rukawa Kaede was about to break past Aoi Kunisaku.

But then, the next moment.

Slap...

A loud sound of the ball being swatted echoed across the court.

The sound wasn't too loud, but everyone watching from the sidelines heard it very clearly.

When they snapped back to reality, they saw something unbelievable on the court.

Rukawa Kaede had already reached Aoi Kunisaku's back.

His movement had come to a halt, frozen in place.

What was strange was that his hand was empty.

The basketball had vanished without him noticing.

Rukawa Kaede looked at his hand in disbelief, his mind in shock.

He hadn't even realized when the basketball disappeared.

Slowly, he turned his head to look at Aoi Kunisaku behind him.

Aoi Kunisaku still looked completely relaxed, but somehow, he had a basketball in his hand.

"What... just happened?" Kogure Kiminobu asked, astonished.

It wasn't just him. Even Akagi Takenori was looking at the court in confusion and shock.

Earlier, his attention had been completely focused on Rukawa Kaede's breakthrough, so he hadn't noticed Aoi Kunisaku's actions. He had no idea when the ball was stolen.

Ayako opened her mouth wide, her beautiful eyes staring in disbelief.

She gasped in shock, "Oh my god! Did I see that right?"

When Rukawa Kaede made his move, she had intentionally kept part of her attention on Aoi Kunisaku.

Even so, she hadn't seen when Aoi Kunisaku made his move.

It was too fast.

Her eyes almost couldn't follow it.

Just then, Aoi Kunisaku turned around. Without moving his feet, he casually lifted the ball with one hand, aimed at the basket, and threw it.

His motion was extremely casual, as though he was just tossing it around.

But despite that, in front of everyone's eyes, the ball hit the backboard and bounced right into the hoop.

This scene left everyone in a state of shock.

Aoi Kunisaku didn't pay attention to the looks from the others. He simply turned to Rukawa Kaede and said, "One point, let's continue!"

Rukawa Kaede's face darkened. His expression grew more serious, and the fire of battle in his eyes was nearly overflowing.

He didn't speak but picked up the basketball, turned, and walked to the three-point line, standing in front of Aoi Kunisaku once again.

This time, he looked even more serious than before.

The two of them were back in a standoff.

Rukawa Kaede dribbled the ball, his eyes intensely focused on Aoi Kunisaku's every move.

He wanted to find an opening in Aoi Kunisaku's defense.

But what troubled him was that Aoi Kunisaku's lazy posture seemed full of openings.

However, because of this, Rukawa Kaede hesitated for a moment.

He couldn't believe that such openings could make it easy for him to break through.

Seeing that Rukawa Kaede wasn't making a move, Aoi Kunisaku grew impatient.

Without any warning, he suddenly lunged forward, almost instantly appearing in front of Rukawa Kaede.

Rukawa Kaede only felt Aoi Kunisaku's figure rapidly getting bigger in front of him, and before he knew it, Aoi Kunisaku was already right in front of him.

So fast.

His heart skipped a beat, and instinctively, he tried to protect the ball.

But unfortunately, before he could secure the ball, his hand was left empty.

His pupils shrank, and he realized with a sinking heart that he had been stolen from again.

Having successfully stolen the ball, Aoi Kunisaku turned his body.

Before Rukawa Kaede had time to react, Aoi Kunisaku circled from his left to his right.

The entire process was so smooth and fast, without any hesitation, giving the impression of seamless flow.

When the others snapped back to reality, Aoi Kunisaku had already made it to the basket and was preparing for a layup.

On the court, Aoi Kunisaku lifted the ball in one hand, ready to place it in the basket.

But just then, a sharp glint flashed in his eyes.

His hand, which had been preparing for the layup, suddenly stopped midair, then pulled back.

At the same time, another basketball flashed past his hand.

With a flick of his wrist, the ball soared and perfectly landed in the hoop.

The ball went through the net once again.

However, Aoi Kunisaku's gaze was directed behind the basket.

There, Sakuragi Hanamichi was making a throwing motion.

The others noticed the sudden scene and quickly turned their gaze toward Sakuragi Hanamichi.

Sakuragi Hanamichi saw this and awkwardly laughed, "Ahahaha... sorry, I slipped."

Aoi Kunisaku looked at him but said nothing. He then turned to Rukawa Kaede and said, "Let's continue!"

Rukawa Kaede didn't say anything.

He usually ignored Sakuragi Hanamichi's antics when possible.

Soon, Aoi Kunisaku and Rukawa Kaede began their third round of competition.
