Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies

Chapter 385: Importance of Doctors

Bai Meiyue heard Bai Feng's cry and looked up. She saw the man rushing towards her with the rest of his team. And all of them shared the same urgency, which Bai Meiyue found rather weird. However, the second she saw the last car open with four people helping out a badly injured teammate, she understood what went wrong.

"Yueyue, help us. You have some doctors in your team, right? Can you help us? Please save him!" Lu Jingguo shouted as he rushed to where Bai Meiyue was standing. In the past, he had mocked Bai Meiyue for bringing so many doctors and nurses. But who would have thought that he would be slapped in the face so soon?

Though Bai Meiyue was not interested in Bai Feng and his team, human life was at stake, and she couldn't just sit still and watch a person die in front of her.

She turned to look at Shen Zhen and Zhou Hongbei, who were right in their elements.

Shen Zhen said to the people who were carrying the injured man on a makeshift stretcher, "Stop. Be careful; his injuries are way too serious. How can you pull him along like this? Put him down now. He has suffered such heavy injuries; if you are not careful, his wound might end up getting even more serious. What do you think you are doing!?"

"Sorry, Sorry." Little Xu was terrified when he heard Shen Zhen's warning. He immediately asked his team members to put down the wounded man on the ground while Shen Zhen asked the nurses to bring out a stretcher. As the nurses took out the stretcher from the truck, Zhou Hongbei took a look at the wound of the man lying on the stretcher.

After a careful examination, the man narrowed his eyes and then turned to look at the rest of the team members of the injured man. "Was he bitten by the zombies?"

"No," Bai Feng replied.

Hearing his gruff response, Bai Meiyue turned to look at his clenched fists. Though he didn't say anything, Bai Meiyue seemed to have understood that something went wrong while they were helping out the soldiers.

Zhou Hongbei nodded. He turned to look at the nurses and asked them to wheel Tan Jiu to the emergency room while he and Shen Zhen collected the necessary tools for the surgery.

"Hurry! His breathing is stagnating."

The nurses increased their pace as they pushed the man inside the emergency room; just as they attached the oxygen mask, Shen Zhen hurried inside the room. Pulling on the sterilised gloves, she said, "Bring some clean water, disinfectant, cotton, scissors."

After she finished speaking, she took a look at Tan Jiu's condition.

While Shen Zhen checked whether Tan Jiu was conscious or not, one of the nurses ran outside with a big, sterilised bowl. She came to a stop in front of Bai Meiyue, who stared at her dumbly. For two seconds, the two of them just stared at one another.

It was only when Bai Zhan nudged Bai Meiyue from behind and pointed at the bowl that the nurse was holding in her hands. Only then did Bai Meiyue snap out of her daze and fill the bowl with the snap of her fingers.

"Thank you." The nurse bowed her head and rushed inside the emergency room once again.

"What is this?" Shen Zhen cursed angrily when she saw the severity of Tan Jiu's injuries. "How come this man was injured so severely? Look at this; his spine is almost cracked, and one of his ribs has broken in half—he is lucky that it didn't stab him in his heart."

"No wonder he is almost unconscious," Zhou Hongbei stated as he pulled a mask over his mouth. "He is injured like this, and yet they carried him so haphazardly. Even if he didn't lose his life, he is half dead."

Shen Zhen stood by the operating table and said to Zhou Hongbei, "I will tear off his clothes first. If not, they will get stuck to his skin." The wound was not going to close any time soon, but the blood dripping down and around it was slowly drying. If they didn't clean it up, Shen Zhen was worried that Tan Jiu's clothes would get stuck to his skin and pull on his wound.

"Alright."

Zhou Hongbei started cleaning the wound as he slowly cut open the skin around the rib that was broken. They needed to reattach it or else it might stab Tan Jiu's heart. If that happened, then his condition would become even more dangerous.

Because the entire process was extremely tricky, Zhou Hongbei was also having a hard time. What was more, there were no nurses helping him out by wiping his sweat. Zhou Hongbei could only make do with what he had in his hands.

While he was dealing with Tan Jiu's wound after administering the anaesthesia, Shen Zhen was trying to keep the man conscious. She shouted in his ear, "Hello, can you hear me? If you can, please make a sound."

"Hello, can you hear me?"

Tan Jiu frowned when he heard someone talking to him. At that moment, he just wanted to sleep, but the person buzzing next to his ear wouldn't let him. He hummed softly with a rather painful expression.

"Stay awake," Shen Zhen said to him. "Don't sleep or you will be in trouble. Keep talking to me." Tan Jiu's injuries were too severe, and if he failed to regain consciousness, then he would end up dying.

Zhou Hongbei wiped the blood and continued to speak with him. "Tell us about you; keep speaking. Don't go quiet now."

"Hmm…me?"

Tan Jiu spoke with great difficulty as he was feeling strangely lopsided.

Seeing that the man was about to faint, Shen Zhen and Zhou Hongbei started speaking even louder, making sure that Tan Jiu wouldn't be able to sleep. As Zhou Hongbei's hands continued to work, Shen Zhen wiped the blood off.

Soon, the basin of water turned a pale red, and she turned to look at the nurse before saying, "Bring me more water."

"Understood."
