Three days later, deep into the night.
Bluewind Estate.
"Link, are you sure you want to do this?" Janna's voice carried a hint of unease as she stood beside Link Star, who was perched on a high vantage point overlooking the estate. The moonlight reflected off his armored suit, and his eyes, visible through the visor, burned with determination.
"For my plan to work, I have no other choice," Link replied firmly, his voice steady. "Are Vander and Singed in position?"
Janna paused for a moment, then nodded. "They're ready. As soon as the target appears, we'll begin the operation as planned."
"Good."
The streets of Piltover were eerily quiet, save for the occasional patrol of Enforcers. Despite the recent calm, tensions still simmered beneath the surface, and the Enforcers remained vigilant to maintain order.
Vi let out a heavy sigh, tugging at the collar of her uniform. Caitlyn, who was walking beside her with her rifle slung over her shoulder, glanced at her. "What's wrong? Feeling restless again?"
"Nah, just tired," Vi replied, exaggerating a yawn. Caitlyn shook her head. "Hang in there. The shift change will be here soon."
"Yeah," Vi muttered, rubbing her eyes. She couldn't help but feel conflicted. The very people she now worked for—the Enforcers—were the ones responsible for her parents' death. Yet here she was, patrolling the streets, protecting the city she once despised. Every time she thought about quitting, the look in Caitlyn's eyes stopped her. Caitlyn, who had lost her mother because of Vi's sister, still carried the weight of her family and the city on her shoulders. Maybe this was Vi's way of atoning—for her sister, for herself.
The clatter of hooves against cobblestones broke the silence as a carriage passed by. Vi glanced at it briefly before looking away. Ordinary citizens didn't venture out at night, but the wealthy elite had no such restrictions. Balls, banquets, concerts—these were their nightly indulgences, far removed from the struggles of the common folk.
As Vi stuffed her hands into her pockets and continued walking, her thoughts drifted to where she might grab a drink after her shift.
BOOM!
The sudden explosion jolted her to attention. Her body tensed as she turned toward the source of the noise. A thick, yellow haze began to spread across the street, writhing and expanding like a living entity.
"Vi!" Caitlyn shouted, already pulling out her rifle and tossing a respirator to Vi. The two quickly donned their masks and plunged into the fog. The carriage they had seen earlier was now stuck in the middle of the street, its horses panicking and the driver unconscious. Caitlyn signaled to Vi, and they cautiously approached the carriage.
Caitlyn knocked on the carriage door. "Are you alright in there?"
A calm, youthful voice responded from within. "I'm fine, thank you for your concern."
"Hold on, we'll get you out," Caitlyn assured.
"No need. I'm safe here. You should worry about yourselves," the voice replied, sending a chill down Caitlyn's spine. This wasn't just a random attack—they had stumbled into something far more dangerous.
Meanwhile, back at the Bluewind Estate, Janna reported to Link. "Singed has made his move. The Ferros heiress, Dacoria, has been distracted."
"Good. Send the letter," Link ordered. Janna relayed the command to Vander, who was stationed nearby. Within minutes, a group of figures emerged from the estate and disappeared into the night.
"Fifteen minutes. Then tell Vander to move," Link said, his voice calm but firm.
Fifteen minutes later, a deafening explosion rocked the Bluewind Estate, followed by the roar of an enraged beast. Through the night vision lens embedded in his visor, Link watched as Vander, in his monstrous form, rampaged through the estate before leaping over the walls, pursued by a dozen agile figures.
"Will she show up?" Link muttered, his eyes scanning the estate. Then he saw it—a faint blue light, like a will-o'-the-wisp, darting out of the estate and chasing after Vander.
"She's here," Link whispered, his fists clenching. "In this timeline, Camille exists. But the diversion worked. It's time to move."
Link leaped down from his perch and made his way to the Ferros family cemetery. Three days of reconnaissance had led him here. If Camille existed in this timeline, he had to account for her. The plan was simple: use Singed's alchemical concoctions to create a diversion, then send Vander in to cause chaos and draw out any defenders, including Camille.
With Janna's assistance, Link swiftly navigated the cemetery, passing rows of graves belonging to the Ferros family and their most loyal servants. The Ferros family valued loyalty above all, and even their lowest-ranking members were honored in death.
"Seems the Ferros family has more humanity than I thought," Link remarked as he stopped before a particular grave. "But given what I'm about to do, I doubt they'll extend that kindness to me."
Janna rolled her eyes. "You know that, and yet you're still doing it."
"For the sake of research, it's a risk worth taking," Link replied. "Janna, keep watch."
He pulled out a clockwork-powered shovel and began digging. The soil flew as he worked, and soon he uncovered the coffin of Alicia Ferros. After ensuring the coast was clear, Link opened the coffin to reveal the preserved body of Alicia, a faint blue glow emanating from a crystal resting on her chest.
"The Primordial Crystal," Link whispered, reaching for it. As his fingers closed around the crystal, a wave of energy pulsed outward, rippling through the estate.
Deep within the underground tunnels of the Ferros estate, a pair of glowing blue eyes snapped open, turning toward the cemetery.
