Arcane Drifters – Chapter 92: "Before the Light – The Unknown Heroes"
The world was cracking.
The news had stopped.
Governments had fallen.
The streets were full of smoke.
Millions of people moved from village to city, forest to desert, trying to escape the unstoppable monsters called Arcane. Nobody knew where they came from. Nobody knew how to stop them.
Everywhere people whispered:
> "They're demons…"
"The gods have abandoned us…"
"Where are the royal armies?"
But what the people didn't know…
Was that the ones truly fighting — the Arcane Drifters — weren't known to the public at all.
They were secret.
Hidden.
Unknown.
Just whispers… just legends.
---
A teenage boy named Varek, walking through the ruins of his village, pulled a blanket over his shoulders.
His home was gone.
His friends had vanished during a midnight Arcane attack.
Some people were moving toward the capital, believing the "Royal Guard" would protect them.
But Varek had seen them — glowing warriors flying through the sky, swords spinning like galaxies, fire and thunder exploding in the distance.
People thought they were government soldiers.
Some called them sky gods.
Others believed they were just hallucinations.
Nobody knew their names.
Not Shen.
Not Kenya.
Not Eliz.
Not Ruke.
Not even the Drifting Force.
---
Varek passed a group of families huddled under a broken bus stop.
Someone whispered, "Did you see that warrior who burned down the Arcane worms in one hit? The one with red fire? Must be a royal captain…"
A woman nodded. "Yes. I think he's from the Empress's elite guards."
"They saved us," someone said.
But no one knew who really had.
---
A little girl sat on the ground, trembling, clutching her doll.
Varek gave her a piece of stale bread.
She stared at him, confused. "Why help me?"
He just smiled. "Because someone will help me… maybe."
---
Above, the clouds turned black. The sun vanished.
A giant winged Arcane floated through the sky, its mouth full of sparks and screams. Panic broke out.
An announcement crackled from a broken speaker:
> "EMERGENCY! ROYAL ZONE E VACUATION IN PROGRESS—"
Then static. Then silence.
People screamed.
Arcane flames spread like wildfire.
Varek shielded the girl and ran behind an overturned vehicle, heart racing.
> "This is it… I guess this is how it ends," he thought.
---
Suddenly, everything stopped.
The air… pulsed.
The clouds… opened.
And a sound, not from the ground, but from the sky, boomed like thunder.
A golden-black light exploded from above.
A human-shaped figure descended like a falling star, wrapped in godlike fire and cosmic rage.
People around the world stopped running.
They looked up.
> "What… who is that?"
"Is that one of the Empress's champions?"
"A Royal Angel?"
"A protector from the stars?!"
No one knew.
But even the Arcane generals backed away.
A voice filled the air.
> "I'm here now."
No name. No symbol. No army.
Just one man falling from the sky like a god.
And all across the Earth, in that very moment…
For the first time in weeks…
The world felt hope.
Even if they didn't know his name.
