Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Arrival at the World's Most Chaotic City - Rhodes Island
After what felt like an indeterminate amount of time in flight, the Rhodes Island aircraft finally landed smoothly on a designated helipad.
Steven, temporarily shedding his Netherite armor, stood at the aircraft's exit, squinting as he surveyed the structure beneath him—a structure he wasn't sure how to describe.
Perhaps it couldn't even be classified as a building. After all, Steven had never seen a building that could move like a vehicle.
From a certain perspective, this could be considered a super-sized RV.
After mulling it over for a while, Steven could only come to this rough conclusion. Actually, compared to an RV, this vehicle, overloaded with makeshift additions, was more like a land-based aircraft carrier.
In terms of sheer size, it might even be larger than a typical aircraft carrier.
But why could a world where most conflicts still resembled primitive cold-weapon battles create such a massive mobile structure, not to mention the aircraft they had just flown in? Steven couldn't quite understand.
How exactly were the technological advancements of this broken world distributed?
"Welcome to the mobile landship—Rhodes Island."
Outcast stretched lazily and stepped off the aircraft first, introducing Steven to this moving fortress, where she worked and fought tirelessly.
Steven, meanwhile, held the still-drowsy Gladiia, whose sleepy eyes remained half-closed, and followed her off the aircraft.
Surprisingly, stepping onto the landship felt no different from walking on solid ground. There wasn't even the slightest hint of wobbling. It was hard to believe this was the same structure he had seen racing across the terrain at high speed.
Steven had to admit, this technology was fascinating to him.
But what intrigued him even more was Kal'tsit's reaction as she stepped off the aircraft.
The usually cold expression, as if everyone owed her millions, was replaced by a serene smile. The emotion reflected in her eyes was something Steven never thought he'd see from her.
In her gaze, there was... affection?
Unfortunately, this expression was clearly not meant for Steven.
From behind the door leading off the aircraft, hurried footsteps echoed. A shadow emerged from the doorway, as if preparing to leap into Kal'tsit's embrace, only to stop at the last moment, seemingly restrained by some invisible reason.
"Welcome back, Dr. Kal'tsit."
A sweet, youthful voice called out, finally drawing Steven's attention away from Kal'tsit's smiling face. If only he had a phone in hand, he would've taken a photo for posterity.
Turning his gaze toward the girl standing before Kal'tsit, Steven saw a petite figure, almost the same height as Irene. However, unlike Irene, this girl didn't have feather-like appendages on her head. Instead, she had a pair of soft, furry rabbit ears standing tall.
This made her appear about the same height as Kal'tsit, despite being a head shorter.
"Mm, I'm back."
Nodding gently to the girl, Kal'tsit maintained a tender smile and spoke in a tone that made Steven question whether the person he had met earlier was this woman's twin.
"Is this her daughter?"
Steven quietly sidled up to Outcast and whispered.
"No, this is Rhodes Island's leader."
Outcast's gaze toward the girl carried a similar fondness, like that of an elder doting on a younger generation, though less overt than Kal'tsit's.
The term "leader" left Steven puzzled.
The girl didn't look older than thirteen. At that age, wouldn't she still be in middle school?
A leader of such a complex organization being a middle schooler seemed implausible. Was she, like Kal'tsit, just an old hag that looked young?
Steven studied the girl, who was clearly restraining herself from diving into Kal'tsit's arms to act spoiled, and shook his head.
No, she didn't have that distinct aura of age that Kal'tsit possessed—something only years of life could forge.
"Don't judge her by her age. When it comes to the role of a leader, she's undeniably qualified," Outcast said, clearly aware of Steven's skepticism. She patted his shoulder before explaining.
"So Kal'tsit's her regent?" Steven narrowed his eyes.
He could believe in prodigies at this age—after all, the setting of this world was based on a mobile game. But the idea that she could manage this organization without Kal'tsit or others supporting her seemed far-fetched.
Some roles required the wisdom that only experience could provide, especially leadership positions.
Outcast didn't answer, but her shrug told Steven he was probably right.
At this point, the girl, who had been chatting with Kal'tsit for quite a while, finally noticed the other two people disembarking from the aircraft. Her curious gaze shifted to Steven, and she walked over to him.
Standing before him, she tilted her head up slightly.
At less than 1.4 meters tall, she had to look up to see Steven's face. Even so, her expression remained warm and welcoming, her smile radiating friendliness.
"You must be Mr. Steve, correct? Dr. Kal'tsit informed me about you on the way here. Rhodes Island welcomes all friendly visitors. It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Amiya."
Her light blue eyes curved into crescent moons as she extended her hand in a gesture of goodwill.
The oversized Rhodes Island uniform on her small frame looked like a trench coat, making her already diminutive figure appear even smaller. However, the most striking detail was the tie-like crystal ornament at her neckline.
Was that a special accessory of some kind?
Though curious, Steven responded with his usual polite smile to her greeting.
"Hello."
Lightly shaking the girl's outstretched hand, Steven glanced at the title floating above her head and fell into contemplation.
[The Prophesied Lord of Fiends: Amiya]
This girl's title... was quite something.
