Chapter 33: Exodus and a Desperate Escape

The air in National City was thick with a new, terrifying fear. Cadmus, under the chilling leadership of Lillian Luthor, had launched its most audacious plan yet: the forced deportation of all aliens from Earth. News reports showed alien families being rounded up, herded onto transport ships, their faces etched with terror. Adam felt a cold fury simmer within him. "This is it. The 'final solution' for aliens. And Lillian Luthor is playing Hitler. Someone needs to tell her that's not a good look."

Alex Danvers, fueled by a fierce loyalty to J'onn and her growing understanding of alien rights, was ready to defy the D.E.O. and stop them. Adam was right there with her.

He found Alex in the D.E.O. command center, her jaw set, her eyes blazing with determination. "They're using alien tracking tech," Alex explained, pointing at a map showing alien signatures being herded towards a central location. "And their transport ships are heavily shielded. We can't get close."

"Yeah, well, forced deportation is so last century, Danvers," Adam said, his voice grim. "And highly illegal. But every system has a weakness. Especially one designed by a human who thinks she's smarter than everyone else. These transport methods? They're probably relying on a central control frequency. Or a specific energy signature that powers their shields. If you can disrupt that, you can ground them. Or, you know, make them crash. Whichever works."

He leaned over the console, pointing at a schematic of a Cadmus transport ship. "You know, I was reading about this old military transport. They always had a backup power conduit. A hidden one. For emergencies. Or, if you're looking for a way to disable their alien tracking tech, maybe there's a specific frequency that can jam their sensors. Like, a really annoying high-pitched whine. That would drive anyone crazy. Even an alien."

Alex looked at him, a flicker of hope in her eyes. "A central control frequency? A hidden power conduit? You think…?"

"Hey, I just watch the documentaries," Adam said with a shrug. "But when you're dealing with a villain who thinks she's infallible, you look for the blind spots. And Lillian Luthor has a lot of blind spots. Mostly when it comes to her own ego."

As Alex rallied a small team to defy orders and stop the deportation, Adam actively helped. He moved through the chaotic streets, guiding fleeing aliens towards safe zones, using his Adapt System whenever Cadmus agents tried to stop them.

A Cadmus agent, armed with a stun gun, lunged at a fleeing alien family.

[ADAPT SYSTEM: Host in danger. Threat: Physical restraint/energy weapon. Adaptation: Doubled physical strength and energy resistance.]

Adam quickly shoved the Cadmus agent away from the alien, sending him sprawling. He then deflected a stun blast with a temporary energy shimmer, the energy washing harmlessly over him. "Seriously, guys? You're going to need more than a glorified taser to stop me! And forced deportation? That's a new low, even for you."

He continued to protect fleeing aliens, his Adapt System activating whenever a direct threat materialized, making him a surprisingly effective, if temporary, shield. He was a human barrier, a beacon of defiance against Cadmus's cruel plan.

Alex, observing Adam's unwavering commitment to protecting all aliens, regardless of their species, felt her bond with him deepen. They were allies, fighting for a common cause, defying orders for what was right. Kara, watching from a distance, saw Adam's bravery, his compassion, his willingness to risk everything for those who couldn't protect themselves. It solidified her unwavering trust and love for him.

"He's not just a human," Kara thought, a warmth spreading through her chest. "He's a hero. In every sense of the word. And he's mine."
