Chapter 34: Luthors and a Web of Deception

The name "Luthor" hung heavy in the air of National City, a dark cloud of suspicion and distrust. And now, Lillian Luthor was actively trying to frame her own daughter, Lena, for crimes against aliens. Adam watched the unfolding drama with a grimace. "Because nothing says 'healthy family dynamic' like trying to send your daughter to prison for a crime she didn't commit. Seriously, the Luthors make my family look like a Hallmark card."

Kara, predictably, was struggling. Her past experiences with Lex made it hard for her to trust any Luthor, even Lena, who seemed genuinely committed to doing good. Adam knew Lena's innocence, and he knew the web of deception Lillian was weaving.

He found Kara in the CatCo bullpen, staring at a news report about the accusations against Lena, her brow furrowed in suspicion.

"So, your mom's trying to frame you for alien crimes?" Adam quipped, leaning against her desk. "That's a new one. My mom just tried to frame me for eating the last cookie. Much less dramatic. And with fewer alien implications."

Kara sighed. "It's hard, Adam. Every fiber of my being tells me not to trust a Luthor. But Lena… she seems different. But then, Lillian is so good at this."

Adam nodded. "Yeah, Lillian's a master manipulator. She's like a really evil chess player. Always thinking ten steps ahead. But even the best chess players make mistakes. And sometimes, the simplest moves are the ones they don't see coming." He paused, then continued, his voice serious. "Look, Kara. I know your history with Lex. But Lena is not Lex. She's made different choices. She's actively trying to distance herself from her family's legacy. And sometimes, the best way to fight a villain is to believe in the good in someone they're trying to destroy. Look for the inconsistencies in Lillian's story. The hidden data. The missing piece of evidence. She's too arrogant to think she'll get caught."

Later, Adam subtly helped the D.E.O. prove Lena's innocence. He "accidentally" pointed Winn to a hidden server log that showed Lillian's access to the alien weapon schematics, or "speculated" about a specific piece of evidence that Lillian might have overlooked.

"You know," Adam mused to Winn, pointing at a complex data stream. "If I were trying to frame someone, I'd probably make sure all my digital footprints were covered. But sometimes, even the smartest criminals leave a tiny digital breadcrumb. Like, a hidden access log. Or a timestamp that doesn't quite add up. It's like, they're so busy being evil, they forget the basic rules of cybersecurity. And common sense."

Winn's eyes widened. "A hidden access log? A timestamp? You think…?"

"Hey, I just watch the documentaries," Adam said with a shrug. "But when you're dealing with a master manipulator, you look for the cracks in their perfect facade. And Lillian Luthor's facade is starting to crack. Now go prove Lena's innocent, tiger. She deserves a fair shot. Even if she is a Luthor."

Adam's trust in Lena grew throughout the ordeal, and he became a quiet advocate for her, subtly guiding Kara towards a more open-minded perspective. Kara's trust in Adam's judgment was reinforced, seeing his ability to discern truth amidst the deception.

"He sees the good in people," Kara thought, watching Adam offer Lena a sympathetic nod after her name was cleared. "Even when it's hard to find. And he helps them. That's why I trust him."
